  1. I just wanted to post my experience with going to Dr. Randall Todd Lee in Scarborough. Before I went, I had really no idea what to expect and would have appreciated a walk-through of the process. It was a lot easier than I imagined and took a total of 2 hours 50 minutes start to finish. So here ya go!

    What I brought:

    - Three 2x2 passport photos

    - Interview Letter

    - Passport

    - Immunization Records

    - $300 Payment

    - Proof of Chicken Pox (A signed letter from my mother with the date and doctor's name who diagnosed it).

I also brought hospital records proving that I am 22 weeks pregnant in case they need it. And I had my binder full of photocopies and originals of all requested documents, including my birth certificate, etc. on hand just in case.

I got there a half hour before my 9:30 AM appointment and started off by filling out a form stating my name, interview date, etc. The person for the 9 AM appointment showed up late (around 10) and so I was taken first. Seems like a first come first serve policy?

Next I handed over my three passport photos which they kept. And my immunization record, passport, and interview letter were photocopied and given back to me. No urine test was requested.

I waited quite a while later then since they were running behind in the office. Around 10:15 I was called into Dr. Lee's examination room. The nurse asked me to remove all my clothes and put on this paper-towel-like sheet thing. It was weird. About 15 minutes later, Dr. Lee came in and had me sign a few forms. (One of them was the required waiver for the chest x-ray because I'm pregnant.) He gave me a very brief physical examination, tested my eyesight, and asked me all about my medical history. He took my word that I had chicken pox when I was 6, and didn't ask for proof. Then he informed me that all I needed was an updated Tdap vaccine from my family doctor and I was good to go!

Back at reception, I paid $300 cash as well as $30 for expedited courier service of my package to my home address four hours away.

Then I was given two documents with my passport photos stapled to them: one for bloodwork and one for the x-ray.

I went downstairs in the building for the bloodwork, took a number and had a seat. There were about 7 people ahead of me. When my number was called 20 minutes later, I handed over my document and had my blood taken. Then I headed out immediately to the x-ray clinic at 4002 Sheppard Ave E, Toronto, ON. (About 15 minute drive from Dr. Lee's office).

This part was very fast and simple. I handed over the document, had a seat for barely 5 minutes before I was called in for the x-ray. I changed into a hospital gown and was given a double lead protective layer to cover my abdomen due to the pregnancy. The x-ray was taken and I was sent on my way. Time was 11:50 AM.

The next day I received my Tdap vaccine and faxed proof of it to Dr. Lee's office. I called the next morning to double check that they received it. Now I am awaiting my sealed medical package in the mail within the next 5 business days!

Here's to hoping the rest of this process goes just as smoothly and I can be reunited with my husband in Portland SOON! :)

  2. I haven't had my medical yet.. it's Thursday. but that list you made looks right.

Good luck! Please post a review when you're done :)

Sorry this is late, Exocet. I hope your medical goes well today!

Thanks for the responses everybody. My experience in Scarborough is as follows:

  3. Hey guys,

I have my medical appointment tomorrow morning in Scarborough with Dr. Randall Todd Lee. I'm just double checking to make sure I am well prepared and have everything in order. Does my checklist look like it is missing anything?

    - Three 2x2 passport photos

    - Interview Letter

    - Passport

    - Immunization Records

    - $300 Payment

    - Proof of Chicken Pox

Also, I am bringing hospital records along proving that I am 22 weeks pregnant in case they need it. And I have my binder full of photocopies and originals of all requested documents, including my birth certificate, etc.

Has anyone been to this doctor before? Perhaps you could describe your experience and shed some light on what I should be expecting? (ie. How long did the whole thing take?) That would be GREATLY appreciated! A little nervous here :s

    Thanks!

  4. Hello all,

I have a question regarding my wife visiting me here in the US. my wife is a Canadian citizen and I am a USC. we were married in Feb. 2013, and submitted our i-130 early may. she came down to visit me in august and has been here since. we had hoped and planned that her allowed time here would not outlast the time it would take to get approved, however it looks as that will not be so. she is planning on heading back to canada once the 6 mo. time is up as to avoid causing any issues at her interview, however her sister is getting married in the US in feb 2014. which is just after her 6 months is up. if she were to be here approximately 3 weeks after the 6 month time period could that potentially hurt us when we get our interview? we would rather miss the wedding and have our visa granted but it would be nice to know what other options we have. anything helps!

    thanks to all :)

  5. Hello fellow VJ friends!

I want to post my situation and see if I can get some helpful tips/feedback as to whether I am on the right path.

I proposed to my fiancee last september, she is a Canadian citizen an I am an american. We have our wedding planned for july 20th in canada. our plan as it stands right now is to get legally married soon on her next visit and then she leaves back to canada after a short time. we then start on the CR-1 application and process while we are both in separate countries. during the time that it is pending I would travel to canada, where we would have our religious ceremony and then come back to the USA with my wife and wait until we get our interview date. We are planning on informing the customs officials that we are in fact married but we will have 2 way tickets for her and proof of ties back to canada (i.e. bank accounts, letters from employers, home adress, etc.) to show that she is not intending on staying here permanently without proper documents. once we get approved for an interview or once the 6 month maximum visitor time expires, I would fly her back to canada for her interview/waiting period for approval.

Is this plan feasible? Is it too risky to presume that the customs officials will let my wife come to live with me in the US with intention to return to canada for her interview?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks so much :)

  6. Nope, K1 is for fiance(e)s, i.e. people who are free to marry when they enter the US, and get married on US soil. If you want to get married in Canada, you are obviously free to do it, but then you will need to follow a different path, and petition your spouse to obtain a CR1 visa. It takes a little longer than the K1, but when your spouse enters the US he/she will immediately obtain a green card and will be eligible to work right away.

Thanks for the info :) Is there any way that she could be with me here in the USA while the visa is pending for approval? I have limited time to visit canada due to my work, but the idea of spending the months it may take to be approved is a bit hard to swallow. could she be here on a visitors visa while we wait for approval?

  7. I have a situation that I could really use some help with. I am engaged to my canadian fiancee and we are planning on getting married in July 2013 in canada near her family. I have found myself in a sticky situation when it comes to the immigration work. Is there any way I could go to canada, marry her and then bring her back using the K-1 visa? We dont want to spend much time apart after our wedding, and waiting for a CR-1 visa to get approved would be more waiting than we would like to be reunited. From my understanding the marriage (using the K-1) needs to take place on american soil. Is there any other option that would allow me to go to canada, marry my fiancee, and then bring her back here? I feel that there are really no options for an american wanting a canadian wedding and then settling back down in america. Any help would be awesome.

    Thanks so much,

    Joey
