  1. Mu husband was issued his 10 year permanent resident card in January 2017. He lost his wallet at the grocery store last week with his card inside along with SS card and his Driver license.

We are traveling to Haiti next month. Can we get an I-551 stamp in his passport for traveling? How long does it usually take to get a new permanent resident card? I'm sending in the I90 this week but I doubt it will come before we leave.

Will we have trouble leaving Haiti or entering the US with an I-551 stamp?

Has this ever happened to anyone?? Advice please??

    Thanks all!!

  2. I AM HELPING A FRIEND OF OURS APPLY FOR A STUDENT VISA TO COME TO THE US TO STUDY TO BE A MECHANIC SO HE CAN OPEN A SHOP BACK IN HAITI .

HE WOULD ATTEND A COLLEGE CLOSE TO OUR HOME.

I LOOKED ON THE SEVIS WEBSTIE AND THE ACCREDITED SCHOOL THAT HE WOULD ATTEND IS LISTED ON THERE SO DOES THAT MEAN THEY ARE CERTIFIED FOR SEVIS?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE OF SEVIS AND SEVP? HOW DO I KNOW FOR SURE IF THE SCHOOL WILL QUALIFY?

  3. My husband and I are going home for the Holidays. He has had his greencard for almost a year now. What all shoukd we take with us when we go? His Haitian Passport... Visa? Greencard? Everything? Do you think there will be issues trying to leave Haiti when we come home? So many things are going through my head because you never know what you will run into when you are in Haiti :) any advice would be great!!

    Thanks all!!!

  4. Hello All VJ's!!!!!

I have some questions about student visa in Haiti. My husband is from Haiti and has been in the states for a little over a year. We did the k1 visa.

But.... We want to apply for a boy that was living in the children's home where my husband lived and worked full time. His is 13 years old and speaks English really well. and it has been on my heart for so long (many years) its like he is my own blood. but.... I have had a lot of trouble finding information on the guidelines for getting a student visa for a Haitian child. or even adopting a Haitian child since we have not been married at least 5 years. ( one of the requirements) any advice on either student visa or adoption for Haitian child would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks all!!

  5. Adopting a foreign child in many cases does not yield a relationship that is valid for immigration purposes. If they are close to a specific child that may complicate things even more. If this is really a relatives child then there is almost no chance of getting immigration benefits through adopting. http://www.uscis.gov/adoption/country-information/adoption-information-haiti should be helpful.

There are no relatives. And he is not a relative of ours. He is our sponsor child since 2011.

    Thanks for your link.

  6. I think that's a really rude question. The means by which a couple chooses to expand their family are none of your business.

OP: I don't know much about the process, but I think that it probably will be easier for you guys to complete the adoption since your spouse is Haitian. I've heard that the Haitian government is looking really closely at international adoptions right now.

Assuming, of course, that you and your spouse are adopting the child together and both names will be on the adoption certificate, I would think that, since you are a USC, the process should be pretty similar to normal with a USC sponsor/adopter? But I might be totally off base.

    THANKS WILL CHECK IT OUT!!!
