Hi Nik,
I am not filing a k-1 but k-3 instead so I can share so far my experiences with the Ghana Embassy. If your husband currently resides in Ghana, then you can scan your noa2 front and back have him take that along to the embassy to see if they will let him in to get the packet 3. Unlike Lagos, Nigeria, in Acrra, Ghana they do things a bit differently. They first give out packet 3 which needs to completed and returned and then packet 4 and an interivew date will then be issued. If you need to make any enquiries, M-Th they only accept calls after 3pm their time. You can reach them at these numbers: 011 233 21 7010163 or 776601.
The medicals are usually done by Akai or Trinity House and when my husband spoke to someone who works at Trinity, they told him that since he lives outside of Ghana that so long as he is willing to pay extra to get it done and it can be done and completed within a week.
Since my husband lives outside of Ghana, it has been difficult for us to move forward necessary paperwork need from the Ghana embassy. If your fiance is not successful in going to the embassy using a copy of the NOA2 that you sent him , then most likely you will have to wait for a letter to be sent to you or him from the Ghana embassy stating that he can now pick packet 3. I just got this letter from the embassy the other day and I have waited almost a month for them to send this. They also told me that since we are not in Ghana that my brother in law can pick up these documents for us. We have been waiting for over a month now for them to send out this letter to him and he has yet to receive it. I have called them and told them that I received their letter and told them that my brother in law has not yet received the letter they sent but they told me to wait another week. They have been nice over the phone but it just seems that things take a bit longer to process at this embassy in comparison to Lagos these days!
I will post more information about packet 3 once I obtain that information. I believe the packet 3 asks about medicals, police reports, and financial information from the petitioner. Maybe someone who has already gone thru the Ghana embassy can share more information. Also it helps if you use the search part of this website and type in Ghana Embassy and read the posts on there to help you find out more information.
Congrats on getting approved!!!
Thank you for your assistance. My case is supposed to be forwarded to Ghana this week, so I have spent most of my day trying to send my fiance information as I find it. He will flip when he sees the million e-mails I sent today.
I was looking on the consulate web site and it looks like they won't accept hand-written or typed applications. Do you know if that only applies to visa's other than K-1 and K-3's. It also seems that you make your appointment via the internet. You would think with all this technology going on it would take less than 6 months to get the visa. I feel so helpless right now.

I had the same experience. Let me just say CSC SUCKS!!!!
I made an appointment with Info Pass and was told there that my application was approved on September 5th. (Some two weeks earlier) they never contacted me to tell me. As a matter of fact, the immigration officer didn't even know they did e-mail alerts - how sad is that?
I called NVC to see if my petition was there and was told no, but I got a letter in the mail saying it was and that my petition would be forwarded to my fiance's consulate in a week.
So, take heart and pray the rest of the experience is better than CSC.

Hey All,
Apparently, CSC approved my case. They never sent an e-mail, but when I made an appointment to see an immigration officer she told me it was approved on Septermber 5, 2006. Anyway, since I am finally at the point where I have to start dealing with the consulate, I just wanted to get an update. Are things still moving extra slowly? Are the people still very rude? Anyone who is going through the K-1 out there, please let me know what is happening in Accra so I can pass the word to my fiance.
Thanks

Hey All,
I was really begininng to become very angry about CSC approvals on petitions filed in June and July when I filed mine in April. In a last ditch effort to get some answers I made an appointment with InfoPass. I went in today and let me say, why you have to make an appointment to take a number and wait is beyond me. Anyway, I went in and they told me my case was approved on September 5th. I was expecting a big fight so I had to have the woman repeat the information.
I have recieved no written information, no e-mail, no snail mail. Has this happened to anyone else? I know this seems crazy, but I am afraid to trust anything they tell me w/out having something in writing. I haven't even called my fiance because I am waiting for somthing more concrete.
Nik
Wait a minute. Can you explain? An Infopass appoinment for a K-1 in process?? Never heard of that.
I just made the appointment on line. They have options you can choose for why you want the appointment, I choose to speak with an immigration officer. You go and check in, they give you a number ( a la a bakery), and you wait to see someone.
They mention it when you call the customer service center, I always figured I didn't want to drive somewhere to be told to wait 60 days when I can hear that from the comfort of my own home.

I filed at CSC in April and am still waiting for my NOA2 as well, what is up with there June and July approvals?! I am really upset about it.

I truly hope you're writing this in frustration and not really meaning this! If you're so angry you could "shank" someone, I have some concerns! Is this how you usually respond to issues that anger you? Take a few deep breaths and understand that you, specifically, aren't being targetted.
Carla
Hey, Take a deep breath, relax - and develop a sense humor.
-
Not to add to the anger and frustration going on, but I am having a hard time keeping my cool when I see people with similar NOA1 dates well beyond me in the process, and even worse when people with dates after me have approvals.
I made an appointment with Info pass, but am afraid to go. If I have to get up early, pay a lot of money for downtown parking, and still have someone give me the run around-I will lose it. I'm about ready to shank someone as CSC as it is. Has anyone made an appointment with Info pass? If so what was your experience? Was it worth it?

I hit 147 days today. I know there are others out there. Including no IMBRA RFE, Embassy recalls and so forth.
Would be nice to continue the tracking process. Who is left?
Add to this list.
William33: 147 days
Like others, I just started counting months. What is going on with the late March and early April applications? All of of are just waiting, while others are being approved. Are we apart of a "lucky" pile they want to experiment on? Or do we all have the same crappy adjudicator? This is really pissing me off. Has anyone tried info pass. I made an appointment, but am afraid to go, because if I continue to get the run around I may have to hurt someone.
-
I can't help it, I have to vent a little. It is really hard to watch many people who applied after you get approved. Not that I am not happy for them! But it isn't easy. I am tired of being teased, I want to yell
"NO MORE TOUCHING, JUST GIVE IT TO ME ALREADY!"
I am remembering this old movie where this news man says, " I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
Then I remember I am dealing with CSC and I'm forced to take it.

Hey all,
My fiance is self-employed as many people in Africa are. He doesn't really have a business as we would think of it. He sells things on the road. Will this mean we won't qualify for the k-1. I know it is supposed to be based on my and my income, but is his employment taken into consideration at any level?

My fiance is self-employed, as most africans are. He sells carvings on the road. Will this affect our ability to qualify for the K-1?

Well, I'm not sure what stage of the process you are in, but if you are talking about the affidavit of support, then the form itself has all the instructions you need. The letter needs what you have stated, mine also had the average amount in the account over the past year and the current balance. You also need recent bank statements (at least six months).
I am on the verge of getting my NOA2. (note my confidence
)
I bank at a large institution and as it turns out, correctly guessed it would take me about 2 months to get the information I needed. I decided to start a little early.
Do the bank statements need to be notorized? I know the letter from the bank and the I-134 do.
Thanks for your assistance
Nik

Is there anyone who got a message like mine recently who was approved? If so what was the time line between reciept of the message and your approval?
Nik

It means they received your response to they're RFE (I'm guessing they sent you one). Thats all it means really.
Weird thing is, nikkis, your timeline doesn't show a second RFE. I'm assuming you got the same update when you sent them the RFE back the "first" time?
They didn't send me a second RFE.

Hey All,
I know someone else has probably asked this, but what does this mean? and is there anyone else who has recieved this notice from CSC and gotten approved? Someone needs to teach CSC how to write sentences that are understandable. Don't get me started on CSC!
Wouldn't I recieve a written decision anyway, why am I not getting one of the friendly approved e-mails?

Hey all,
I have a quick question today. If you have dealt with the Ghanaian consulate please help. I am trying to get some of my documentation done soon. The letter from our bank needs to state the amount we have deposited in the last calander year and how long we have had our account, right? It also needs to be a certified copy, is there anything I am missing?
Thanks,
Nik

Has anyone else from California been touched today? My date changed today!!! I'm hoping this means an approval soon!!!! Wish me luck! Have any CSC approvals been touched a few days before? I hadn't been touched since July 6, but they received my RFE July 5, so it kind of follows the timelines for approvals!
ME! I got touched today too. Let's keep our fingers crossed for an approval.

I can't remember when I read this, but we do need to get a letter from our bank stating how long we have had our account and the amount of money deposited in the past year, yes? (For the I- 134) I have been trying to get this from my bank for the last two months. Can anyone verify this for me?

I just have to vent! I moved 3 months ago. I called to change my address before I moved and was told I had to wait until the move was final. The day after I moved to my new place I called and changed the address - this was my bad, I inverted two numbers in my address. After hanging up I realized this and called back, I was told I had to wait 30 days to correct the mistake. I called back again in a few weeks and gave the correct address to the representative, and still recieved no notice from them. I called back in a couple of weeks to find out why. Apparently, they decided not to complete the address change, I went through the same sh*$ again.
I got a e-mail from them about a week ago saying my RFE was mailed on June 23rd, and then an e-mail telling were answering my request for information on my case-mailed out July 6th.
I called today to try to find out if the RFE went to the right address. They want me to wait until August 6th - how f(*&%#! stupid are they? They won't tell me if the address change was completed or where the RFE went. I waited patiently and followed their rules, but this is pissing me off!
The lady told me that we she didn't know if the July 6th mailing was an RFE so I had to wait. Mind you, I am reading the e-mail to her stating that it was mailed on June 23rd.
I moved three months ago!! This is not rocket science, it is a simple address change. A five year old could get this right, maybe we should send some to CSC to replace the nut cases we are dealing with.
NIK
p.s. still mad but feeling a tiny bit better

Are they going to put all the people transfered to California Service Center to the end of the line....? Does anyone know?
On June 14, 2006, your I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E) was received here for processing. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete. You can use our processing dates to estimate when this case will be done. Follow the the link below for current processing dates.
My Nebraska date is 12 March, but this sounds like they could putting us at the end of the line?
It is just confusing.
I hate to bring it up, but the other side to that coin is what will happen to California petitions? Are we going to have to wait longer because of the transfer. We may all be screwed. I don't understand why they would transfer people to the slowest center, why not Vermont - they move super fast.

I too understand this. My fiance tries very hard to understand everything, but the delays are dreadful to her. She wants us to be together and spending time together, and the phone and internet at times make the seperation almost worse for her, as she then thinks about what we would be doing if the two of us where together.
As to the previous poster mentioning the greencard, in our situation at least, I was going to move to Peru initially. Then I was offered a job that I could not pass up. Now that it looks like it is going to be a permanent position, it is the only reason she is coming to the US. We are actually planning in 6 to 10 year timeframe to relocate back to Peru.
Hang in there, and remember, you are a man, who tends to often think in facts and very logic based patterns, you are dealing with a woman who tends to often think first with emotion, and here the greatest emotion is the seperation from the person she loves....
Oh my goodness,
I am so happy that you wrote this, I thought I was the only one. My finace only knows what I tell him, we just has a tiff about it last week. I feel like I am doing all the work, he is happy to listen, but he doesn't take much initiative. He thinks that since I am here, I should take care of it all - and it does upset me. When I need to talk about it and get his idea's, thoughts, etc.. - nothing!
So now I feel like I have been too hard on him.
Ghana Embassy Updates
in Africa: Sub-Saharan
Posted
Nik, I am a little confused by this statement? Isnt handwritten or typed applications the only 2 ways to fill out an application?
I feel so helpless right now.
I know the feeling cause there are days when my husband and I feel the same way with this entire visa process. Just take it step by step and continue to do your research on here and anywhere else where you may find helpful information. I have had to learn from the little that I have had to deal with Ghana Embassy is to exercise a lot of patience because they do not move as quickly as we would like. Hang in there!!!
Do you need to have your passport to pick up the packet?
