  1. Like u sed ur document is required in Nigeria and not in the U.S so it could be different. I really don't knw about the K1 as mine was a spousal visa and I'm d divorcee not my husband. I married in Lagos and divorced in Abuja where I lived at the time. The foreign affairs is in d central area of Abuja FCT (any cab Wud tke u there) it's a popular place in the central area of Abuja but the security is quite tight there and be prepared to wait a while if u don't knw anyone there also beware of touts who would wanna skim u off in d name of getting u in. Mine was pretty straight fwd as I knw someone but if u dont and wanna do it d fast way ul be looking at 15-20k but if u go in thru the normal process it's less(u knw our naija pple).

Honestly u might not have to go thru this route cos urs iz k1 ..I wish someone who's gone thru this as a k1 Wud help out. As for me this is my journey, this is what I went thru to hv dat divorce document authenticated. Also u mentioned its not urs but ur fiancée's..I honestly don't knw if u can do it on her behalf. U knw wht..I think u Wud be fine cos I knw the k1 visa usually bring their documents along to the interview so if they need to verify anything they can do it there and then. So u shud be fine ok. Goodluck!

  2. Hi Godsrule I would love to help as much as I can..we have each others bk on here. Ok here is what I have: DECREE NISI DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE, CERTIFICATE OF DECREE NISI HAVING BECOME ABSOLUTE AND CERTIFICATE OF JUDGMENT. Note that evryones case is different. My husband is the USC when he started the whole filing process I gave him the 3documents(all original, signed and stamped by the judge in Abuja) only for USCIS to reject them stating it has to have a "seal" honestly at this point we kept wondering what seal again as its been signed and stamped in court by d judge. My husband sent the 3documwnrs back to me via Dhl to tke it back to the court to have it stamped and signed again which I did by paying afresh to have that done..the court didn't understand what else I wanted as I didn't need all that hassle but I insisted. I then sent it back to my husband via Dhl and he sent it to USCIS and guess what ..it was rejected again saying its not the original "seal" stamp! We went crazy and frustrated cos they won't tell u exactly what seal. He spoke to them and they said it has to bear the original seal. We lost several months becos of this, if u go thru my timeline u would see this is what delayed our process. So finally I went to meet the lawyer who did my divorce case..he kinda got confused too cos he was looking at original court stamp and signature of the judge..luckily a second lawyer walked in(his colleague) heard the conversation and then said what they mean is the seal from FOREIGN AFFAIRS! Apparently any document leaving Nigeria e.g school results etc need to be authenticated by the the foreign affairs b4 it can be authentic abroad. Mehnnnn it was a nightmare but finally I took it to foreign affairs and it took about 3days(heard it tkes longer) cos i knw someone who works there to have it all sealed&signed! And I sent it back to my husband and guess what...they accepted it and gave us an interview date! This is what delayed our process for months. So il advice anyone out there to do this homework well unless its not applicable to u. GOODLUCK and hope this helps.

  3. I had jus 1 page of decree absolute and 1 page of decree Nisi. Oh yes it needs to be certified with the foreign affairs. I did mine in Abuja and it wasn't an easy task but hey I finally got there. Also the court where it was divorced also need to make sure it's signed and certified on their part as foreign affairs would send it back to them for the authenticity. Goodluck

Thanks Erin O. But was he able to file for AOS with that attestation of birth? And also you mentioned being older than 30... Does that make a difference in which document you need?

Yes my husband used it to file for AOS, I sent it to him then got it back after my interview frm d CO. No, d age doesn't matter was only referring to d age u mentioned earlier but ignore...jus a guide line for u guys.

Im over 30years old and did my ATTESTATION of birth in Abuja but born in imo state. They don't issue birth certificate but ATTESTATION of birth which she would also tke to court to stamp or smth can't remember( my own head has gone blank) headbonk.gif..anyways it's well accepted at d embassy as I used it for my own process. GOODLUCK

Pls ignore him taking the ATTESTATION of birth to court to stamp ..u don't need to stamp it again. Jus do the age declaration first which is done and stamped in court then u tke it to get ur ATTESTATION of birth.

  6. Jus checked my documents and saw I first went to Abuja high court to do my age declaration which requires u to go with an uncle,Aunty or any family member whose over 40 years old,I went with my uncle he swore for me ,let whoever that's standing for him go with a drivers license ,passport or any I'd to show their age then 2passport pix. Then after that u tke that age declaration to the national population for ur ATTESTATION of birth..WALA !!! After a week or so u come bk for pickup but u knw naija if u sort them u get it earlier if not d next day or even that day but dunno for Lagos tho.GOODLUCK

  9. It is indeed depressing but we thankGod we are finally together now. My husband is the USC ,he calls me 3 to 4 times daily.. when his driving to work we go together, his lunch break, before I go to bed then before he goes to bed. I send SMS a lot to him as he doesn't like typing he prefers calling. When I finally got to the states the first thing he said was " goodbye pingo"( the call card he uses). Loll.. Honestly we are grateful to God. Pls hang in there for those waiting as "delay is not a denial". GOODLUCK!

  10. I didnt get my divorce decree back after my interview and its d original!! So ensure to check its given back to u before u sign the papers that all original documents have been given to u.Also my police report expired with NVC ,didn't wanna tke chances goin for my interview without a fresh one so I made a new one at a cheaper rate in Lagos as the first one was done in Abuja and pricey!GOODLUCK

I also heard it was a bad idea applying in person..well well ..d deed has bn done. Pray it comes through soonest.GOODLUCK !
