Social Security and driver license place both told me to wait 2 weeks after getting citizenship for the SAVE database to populate with my new status.

Do the passport first. Yes you can get it back by March.

    Yes

    No

It is possible, but you have to apply. https://www.gov.uk/register-a-birth

Don't get both out at the same time. I travel with both.

Ok you have helped clear a few things up. I thought I had to register her but I wasnt sure.

So register first then I can apply. Passport first then other documents too!

    Thank you

You don’t have to use your UK passport to enter the UK but 9 times out of 10 the UK/EU line is quicker than the “all other passports” line.

You MUST however use your US passport to enter the USA. It’s illegal for US citizens to use any other passport to enter the country. Aside from that, it won’t work any other way. How do you expect to be admitted into the USA permanently with a UK passport and no green card or visa? Not possible.

Regarding your child born in the USA, yes, the child is also a British citizen if you yourself were born in the UK. If you were born outside the UK, even though you are British, you cannot transfer citizenship to your child.

Yes I was born in the UK and moved to the US nearly 6yrs ago. She was born here in Florida and has a US passport but I just never got her, her UK one. I didnt know if I had to notify someone or if I just apply. I think I was suppose to actually register her :( I live here so I have zero idea.

So if I travel with both passports do I use my UK one to check in but show TSA my US one? Then travel back with my UK one but show them my US one? I'm sorry I'll be traveling alone with just my daughter as my husband is about to deploy so I'm kind of stressing out.

  3. Hi all,

I became a US Citizen on Thursday but now I'm in panic mode. Hopefully one or two of you may be able to help.

I'm going back to the UK to see family in March for spring break. I read somewhere I have to leave and enter the US on a US passport now I'm a citizen. Is this true? I assume, and I may be wrong, that I'm automatically considered a dual national with the UK so cant I just use my British passport?? I will hopefully update my SSN and drivers license on mon/Tues but then I have to send my actual certificate in for the passport? Correct? Should I expedite it or is it possible to get it back by March?

And is this is a dumb Q but can I travel with both passports if I receive the US one? Just so its quicker in the lines?

I've been reading about taxes too. I dont own or do anything UK based now but when I file for my US taxes this year do I notify them I'm a dual citizen now. I'm so confused by everything.

Lastly, my daughter was born here in Florida. Does she automatically get dual citizenship and can I apply for her UK passport? Either here stateside or when I visit my family?

    Thank you.

  4. whats happened now did you locate where your green card is ? they did mail it to you?

Every time I called, no one knew where my GC was or why it hadn't been sent. I was suppose to have 2 call backs which didn't happen so I was asked to submit a service request for a lost GC which I did.

I've been given a case number and I've been told I should hear back by the 17th August. Here's hoping it arrives soon.

  5. You will not be "in limbo". If it gets close to the 1 year mark, go into a USCIS office and get an I-551 stamp.

Also, I noticed that since you became a permanent resident in Sep/Oct 2013, you are becoming eligible to apply for naturalization around now (3 years minus 90 days), assuming you didn't break your continuous residence. If you want to naturalize, you should just apply for it now and not wait for the ROC.

I didn't think I could file before my 10yr GC was received. I thought I had to wait until I had been been here and married 3 years before I could start the process.

I have just filed my own service request and I've been issued yet another case number with a note saying I should receive a reply by the 19th August! My nearest USCIS is 3.5hrs away, lol not very fun with a toddler. I'm more worried about my husband getting orders and me not being able to go with him.

  6. Filed for ROC last year, had my biometrics and my approval letter came through the mail in April. Date of decision was 19th April 2016.

    No green card was received.

Letter asking for a new photograph and signature. Mailed these back to USCIS as per instructions.

    Still no GC.

It has been way over the 60 days so I called up last week to be told I would need to speak to someone else but she couldnt transfer me. She took my details and said someone would call me back within 3-5 working days. No one did.

Called again. Was put through to the correct department and was told I would receive a call back within 250min. Never did.

Called again today and she has said there is nothing she can do and the best I can do is file a service request, (which I think the first lady did as I have a random case number) and someone will look into my case and call me back within 30days.

Currently my conditional resident status is still extended till the 28th September 2016 but after that I'm in limbo. Technically ive been approved but do not have the actual card and no one at USCIS seems to know where it is. Even the website states that they've ordered me a new card.

Any advice, or who to call or anything would be helpful as I'm freaking out.

  7. Good point about the 6months. That very well could be it but hopefully it was just the photo didn't come out very well. I don't have to go back to New Orleans for them to take photos, I just have to sign the paper attached and send it back with 2 passport style photos, in a sealed baggie. If they were asking me to drive the 4hrs back to New Orleans for photos again I would have been so angry lol.

  8. I had my biometrics taken in October 2015 and had my approval for my ROC last month. This week I received a letter stating they were unable to complete the process of my GC as the photograph and signature I submitted did not meet USCIS specifications.

I assume the photos they took of me at my biometric appointment weren't good enough so I have to send in 2 passport style photos along with my signature. I have no idea why my photos werent good enough but now I want to make sure the photos I get taken are.

I have a fringe, (or bangs as they are known here in the US), should I pin my fringe back so my forehead is visible or this is not important. I will tie my hair up but I'm wondering if having bangs meant my original photos were rejected as technically my full face was not show. I dont want to have photos taken and they be rejected. Any advice?

  10. My GC expires on the 21st October and I've been out of the country so I'm only just filing to remove conditions today. My husband (US Military) will be deploying any day now and will more than likely be gone for the interview portion.

I will be attaching his orders but do I write on top of the I-751 form anything or will this void the form. As per the instructions it says...

"In order for USCIS to identify filings based on military or government orders, petitioners are required to indicate on top of Form I-751, "Active Military" or "Government Orders" and submit a copy of their current military or government orders".

I am unsure though if this is just for active members who live outside of the US or anyone.

    Any help is appreciated.

  11. I just came back from visiting family in the UK in September.

I actually went into London and got a new UK passport in my married name that now matches my green card but travel wise everything was fine. I never had any issues leaving the US and when flying back from LHR I showed them my passports (old & new), marriage certificate and green card. They spent a few moments typing away and handed us out boarding passes.

Entering the US I had no problems at all either but had everything with me to show I was legit :)

  12. Honestly you should be fine. My parents visit quite often to see us and on their last trip they opened a bank account. They are with a fairly local on here in Florida but they shopped around. They just needed their British passports and I think another form of ID.

It might be best your girlfriend go into the bank and ask to open an account and see what they say but it's not hard.

  13. Received an RFE for one photo that I provided the next day. CSC has acknowledge the receipt of the RFE. Does anybody have any idea how much additional time this will add to the review? Seem to be getting passed by for our NOA2. Thanks in advance wishing everybody together for the holiday!

As with the whole process its just a waiting game im afraid. If you have provided what they asked for and this has been acknowledged it shouldnt add too much time. The one RFE I had only added an extra week to my AOS process but I've seen some RFE's add weeks. Good luck! You'll receive your NOA2 in no time :)
