  1. Hi! My mother and father in law used to live here in USA, they got green cards. They came home to the Philippines 10 years ago and never came back. My husband's family wanted to bring them over here again.

Are they going to undergo the same process the first time they were petitioned? Or Should they just apply for a tourist visa? They just want to come here for a vacation anyway and don't intend to stay here for a long time.

Which would be the faster option? By the way, they were petitioned before by my sister in law who is a US Citizen.

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

  2. Hi! Thanks for the replies.

So it seems that I really need to pursue further education to get better chances of landing a job as engineer since most of the other "competitors" on the same position has an MS.

By the way, I am chemical engineer living in Maryland. I previously worked as a process engineer on a manufacturing plant, pharmaceuticals to be specific and yes, given a chance I would really want to study again. It's just that cost is the first factor to consider. I guess I have to start widening my job options to be able to have enough funds for my studies.

  3. I know before a foreign engineer can practice his profession in USA, there are many certifications and other credentials required.

I've been looking for a job in same field I was before but it was really hard. I never expected this to be this hard.

So, I have questions to all other foreign engineers who migrated here in USA:

    1. What has been your first job in USA?

    2. How long did it take you to have that job?

    3. Were you able to eventually have an engineering position?

    4. Or if not, did you consider shifting fields?

    5. Did you took further studies?

Right now, I'm kinda lost. I'm getting depressed not being functional as I was before.

  4. Thanks everyone for your inputs. I appreciate this a lot.

More than the money that I'll earn, I should really be after the experience and the contacts that I will made.

    Hello,

I would take the job until something better comes along. It always seems easier to find job when you already have one plus even though the pay may not be what you are looking for it is more than what you are making now, right?

Hi! I am actually not making anything right now so this is really better than none at all! lol

  5. Hi!

I find it difficult to look for a job on the companies near where I live so I tried to apply somewhere slightly far.

The travel from my house to the potential company I will work is 1 hr. The salary is $18/hr.

Considering the fuel costs and the time it will take to travel, is it worth it to accept the offer?

By the way, I've been here in US for 4 1/2 months and been looking for a job since I got here. I am excited on having this first job but somehow hesitant to accept because of the situation. I also have an on-going application with another company ( I had a few interviews already and I was told that I will be having another interview with the next level manager but no definite time yet). This will be the "dream" job that I would really want to have but no assurance yet as to when will be the next interview.

I don't want to pass on the current opportunity that is knocking on me coz now I realize how difficult it is for a new immigrant to be even considered for a job without US experience. If ever i accept this and the "dream" job accepts me later would it be ok to just leave?

Ohhh, need your help on this.

    Thank you!

  6. Hi!

Just a week after arriving here in US I begun uploading my resume on different job hunting sites.

I was contacted by 4 different recruiters for different job vacancies but to one client only.

I sent my updated resume to 3 of them but these are different positions that I know I am qualified.

Of course I am hoping to get the job on which I can have the best offer.

By the way, one of them had me on phone inteview and forwarded my application to the client.

Now I am waiting for the interview schedule with the client but I am more interested on the positions offered by the other recruiters. Is it ok to continue to transact with them too?

I am not yet familiar with this headhunters system coz all my previous jobs in the Philippines were all direct hired and I only deal with the HR and the managers I will be reporting to.

    Need you opinion here.

    Thanks!

  7. So this means that it is not really required to bring another copy of I-864 on the interview?

Anybody else who went for an interview recently?

My husband sent the original I-864,along with the rest of the AOS package, last August only.

So, all the documents he submitted are still valid including the W-2, right?

  8. sorry, typo. fixed below

was your engineering degree certified by ABET? Ask your school about this.

IF NOT - then you might not be getting a job as a chemical engineer - but don't fret -

you can get a job as a technician instead

    Hi Darnell.

Yes, our school is ABET certified but unfortunately it was certified a few years after I graduated. So, i understand I won't be able to use that certification.

    Anyway, thanks for the info.

I think I have to settle first on whichever job I can have then work on the US board exams later on.

  9. Hi! i am a chemical engineer here in the Philippines. If God willing, I am expected to be in USA by December this year.

I'm currently working in a pharmaceutical plant.

I want to be able to have a job as soon as possible after I arrived.

But I don't know how and where to start.

I would appreciate any information like websites of companies or recruitment sites that actually hire engineers from abroad? I believe that I am required to take board exams in USA but I also don't know how to start.

Anyone who had been on the same situation?

    Thanks in advance!

  10. Hi!

My interview is a month from now and we're preparing the documents that I would bring on the interview.

It is written on the guide that I need to bring the complete AOS package even we already sent this to NVC. My husband used the form I-864 but we weren't able to secure a copy that he sent so he'll just fill up a new one.

My question is can we use the I-864EZ form instead of the I-864 that he used before since based on the conditions of form I-864EZ we can use this instead of the longer form I-864.

Anyone of you who used this form?

    Thank you in advance!

  11. Yes, they STILL required the whole AOS package, your I-864 should have an original signature from your husband. Those were the only documents that the Filipino pre-screener asked from me and she kept it. She only browse through my original NSO documents and returned it.

Good luck.. its your turn soon.. smile.png

    Thank you! :)

By the way, when you say original it has to be the exact form that my husband signed? Can it be scanned and printed? Or he should send the physical package?

  12. During my interview, I brought another copy of the I-864 (new version) bearing my husband's original signature, original copy of his employment certificate, scanned copy of his 2012 ITR, scanned copy of 2012 W2 and recent copies of his pay stubs as suggested by VJ members.

The Filipino pre-screener asked for these documents and she carefully reviewed all the data for the Affidavit of support. She kept all of the above documents except for the pay stubs.

    Good luck. good.gif

    Hi Memphis!

So, you mean they would still ask for the whole AOS package that was submitted to NVC?

  13. Case completed August 6 via phone...received case complete email August 7...then i received Packet 4 (Appointment letter) on August 12 and my interview is on September 9

    Thanks for the info.

So would it be safe to assume that my interview could also be a month from now?

Do you any idea if the interview schedule on our case (IR-1) is affected by the volume of other IV cases?

  14. Anybody else here got the email from NVC requiring to fill up the DS-260 online form?

My husband called NVC 2 weeks ago and was told that they received our AOS and IV packages last August 14 and will be processed for 20 business days.

Just this morning, we received an email asking us to fill up the DS-260 since DS-230 has been considered obsolete effective September 1, 2013.

I am actually worried about the additional processing times they would need to review our case again.

Anybody here with the same case as ours?
