We were in the same situation, both of us fluent in Arabic and speak Arabic all the time together. My fiance is fluent in English but felt more comfortable doing his interview in Arabic to ensure that he understood the questions and was able to answer them with hesitating to translate the words he wanted to say. My fiance did his interview in Arabic. All he had to do was say "good morning" in Arabic and the interviewer conducted the entire interview in Arabic. He said the interviewer's Arabic was broken but my fiance was far more comfortable than he would have been doing it in English. Before the interview, we had planned that he would inform the interviewer that he was more comfortable doing the interview in Arabic but he never had to say that.

I will definitely pass down that information to my husband and tell him to say "good morning" or something in Arabic as well as soon as he sees the interviewer Maybe all the interviewer's at the embassy must be fluent in both languages to get the job.. in that case, it works great for us!

My husband's interview is this Monday. My husband and I both speak Arabic fluently! I lived most of my life in Egypt and it's my first language along with English. We both speak Arabic all the time... My husband knows English, but he says he is more comfortable having his interview in Arabic, and I personally prefer that as well; It's his first language and it makes sense that he will do better in it! Has anyone been in the same situation? How do you ask for an interview to be held in Arabic? Any one from Egypt done that before? I was thinking that he asks the lady that first takes his passport, pics, etc.... Any ideas are great!

It won't change the status from AP until the visa is actually printed on the passport. Once it's printed on there, it will change to "Issued" or "read for pickup" ... Congrats!

Just wondering, will NVC know if my interview date has changed? I submitted many date change request.. Is there anyway I can check the status of the request? I call DOS and it seems like they know nothing at all.. :\

Unless they've changed things, they typically send the case out the day after the interview date has been assigned. If your case is still there though, you might want to send the request to NVC. They'll probably then forward the request to the embassy.

Yeah it looks like it changed a bit... I remember on your 1st and 2nd post, there was a question about that. However, I call NVC everyday and they keep telling me it won't be sent out any time soon!!!! I think you are right, I should contact NVC, since they still "have" it! DO they send out an electronic copy too to the embassy or no?

It's very possible to get an earlier date. There's about 29 folk who took my advice, these last 14 months, and got earlier dates using the exact method that I've described. It works ! It's not gauranteed, but if the IV unit can accomodate, they do accomodate.

May I ask for your method so I can be the 30th to follow it?

i suggest you start chasing after this stuff 8 days after 'interview set date' of the 29th o April.

I am trying to be patient and follow the 7 days rule.. however, every minute counts and I am so worried! I will try to do that tho ..

guys, I need to request an earlier interview date than the one I got on on April 29th. My interview date is June 17th. Everywhere it says wait for your case to get to the embassy and then request it, however, it looks like it will be awhile till NVC sends it out. When I call they say your interview is way far it won't be sent out now!! Well, that is the point of requesting a sooner one, HELLO! I don't know what to do exactly!! Should I ask for an expedite at NVC? Should I email the embassy and ask for an earlier interview without waiting for case t get there? Should I tell my congressman to contact DOS? Please guys, any help is appreciated! I have serious things going on and the interview date MUST move back ASAP! My medical is done and it's all ready!

I see what you mean.. maybe it's different. You are right, NVC is just a collector, and that's why it doesn't need translation. The embassy is the one who needs all the papers. Why would an embassy need it if it's in the country's original language. On the NVC/embassy sites, it says: " All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and submitted to the NVC" In this case, it would make sense that an Arabic translation is not needed for an arabic country, except if you have documents in French or something. However, If you feel safe doing it, it won't harm Good luck to everyone

P.S.: I never translated any of my documents, and I got case complete in 12 days ... It's not required!

Hey Roosha, I got my appointment date today ( 04/29) and It's scheduled for June 17th!! I am due on June 3rd... I will go ahead and email, call, fax my embassy with a request for an earlier interview, like you did I really have some serious medical issues and my husband is really needed to be with me. I hope my interview gets pushed back as yours I was wondering if you can share the email you sent to your embassy asking for a faster interview date.. You have no idea how much that would help me so much

By the way, I am SO sure you are not going thru AP, because ALL the people from Arab countries that I have seen on VJ who got any kind of "expedite" at the NVC/embassy stage, are getting their visa within a week or so! I am estimating you will get your husband's visa the beginning of next week inshallah...
