  1. Our NOA1 is dated February 7. My husband did his biometrics on February 20. We haven't heard anything and still can't see our status online. I called last week, and the Tier II person told me it's early in the process for us; that August cases were still being processed. So I'm starting to think (hope) we won't have an interview. I'm okay with that. As I mentioned before, our biggest concern is getting the EAD/AP as soon as possible. The wait continues...

  2. Yay! So glad he arrived safely. Definitely do the social security number within 10-14 days. As soon as he gets the social security card, get the State ID/driver's license. I'd suggest calling the DMV to get specific information on the driver's license. My husband had to take the written test, get a permit, then take the driver's exam (which he hasn't done yet). His Haitian driver's license was not valid.

Goof luck and keep us posted on your journey!

  3. Family-based petitions for Haitians ARE supposed to be automatically expedited. Some of the service centers and people reviewing your case know that and others don't. That notice on the website is still valid because...it's still on the website. It doesn't matter that it hasn't been updated. There are other notices on the site that haven't been updated recently, and they are still valid. It's up to you, the petitioner, to follow up and kindly remind them (and insist if necessary) that the notice to expedite the petition for your fiance in Haiti is still in effect. They may try to tell you no, it doesn't apply anymore, but IT DOES. After calling one or two times, some people get discouraged and decide not to push the issue (I was initially one of those people), but keep at it if you want the approval of your petition expedited.

  4. They may have told him to call to make sure they receive the appointment letter from the embassy before he comes to pick it up. They do sometimes ask for people to call if there's an expected delay or they just don't know how long the embassy is going to take. My husband had to call several times...I can't remember if it was for the appointment letter, the visa or both. I'd start calling sooner that March 14 though (i.e. next Friday).

  5. When we took ours to Haiti Messenger, I had it in a different folder and the lady there specifically asked for it, and a copy of it. Glad we had it exactly as she needed it. They returned it to us though after the interview, along with the Extract of his birth certificate from the Archives.. So, I don't know--maybe things have changed?

yeah it sounds like things have changed. that's why i'm so paranoid about having stuff "just in case". this process will drive you insane if you're not careful.

  6. Well that's what a friend told me n he already got his AP and EAD N he's working already... And other thing is that on biometrics letter doesn't mention the AP app I'm just sharing what I know .. :)

Sure. I wasn't really questioning you, but wondering out loud. I'm actually glad they stamped the NOA1 for AP. Even if it's not necessary, it just makes me feel good knowing we have it just in case. This process has made me overly cautious.

  7. The AP doesnt need biometrics I received my letter for biometrics n it also says for I-485 app and I-765 EAD app not AP I'm doing the walk in on TuesdAy

Hmm...could be. But they stamped my husband's NOA1 letter as having biometrics complete for the AP, and she said she was putting it in the system for all three applications. Why would they do that if it wasn't needed? I guess it's possible the people at the ACS don't know biometrics aren't necessary for AP.

  8. Thanks Selavi, I started the new job at the end of December of '11 so my whole 2012 income is based on that. Hopefully they wont say anything, but my mother and father said they would be a co sponsor. Another question? Do I give them both,or just my mom's? My Mom is petitioning for my auntie, but that can take years...Would they equate that as an extra person? Ugh..I just want this to be ooovvverrrrr. My wedding is planned for August 10th...so hopefully everything can be situated by then

With a full year of income above the poverty line, you should be okay. If you need a co-sponsor and your mom does it, then I believe she'd add your aunt to her household size. Or it may even ask on the form if your co-sponsor is sponsoring anyone else (it's definitely on the I-864 for AOS).

Stay positive. I have a feeling we'll be hearing some good news from you before too long.

  9. I'm glad things are moving forward for you. Your 2011 income shouldn't count against you, however mine did. Granted, I had just started a new job when I completed the I-134 in August 2012. Still, my annual salary is almost 4x the minimum for a two person household and I had to get a co-sponsor. (I worked in Haiti in 2011, and earned very little, but enough to live comfortably because the cost of living is different than in the US. But that didn't matter.) You just never know with the Haitian Embassy. I don't tell you that to add to your stress, but so you can have someone in mind and lined-up as a co-sponsor just in case.

Good luck!!! Hoping for a positive resolution soon!

  10. Thanks: this makes sense! He's going to try a walk-in on Monday. Can't hurt!

We still haven't received the NOA1 for AP, and the biometrics letter only referred to I-485 and EAD, not AP. Guess we wait some more, and potentially go for biometrics twice?

If he goes on Monday and he doesn't have the NOA1 for AP, then he'll have to go back a second time. We still don't have the letter for the AP biometrics and we received all three NOA1 letters at the same time.

  11. My husband successfully completed his biometrics walk-in today! The staff was so incredibly nice and friendly. I'm glad we were able to do it today...now I can relax for a while.

One thing to note: Take your NOA1 letters with you to the appointment if you attempt a walk-in but don't have the letter for one of the applications. The bio letter we received Saturday was only for the green card and EAD. For some reason, there's going to be a separate letter for the AP biometrics, which we haven't received yet. But because we had the NOA1 for the AP (which I almost left at home), they were able to do it.

  12. On Saturday we got NOA1 for the I-485 and for the EAD, along with the biometrics appointment letter. I guess the NOA1 for AP will be here today or tomorrow, maybe? They gave him a biometrics appointment on March 4. Does trying to get it taken care of by walking in speed up the approval of the EAD? I'm trying to figure out why so many of you are attempting that. The field office is right in our city, so it's no problem going there.

I have no idea if it speeds up the process or not. For us, it's about convenience. We live 2.5 hours (3 hours with traffic) from the nearest ASC. And on the date they gave us, I'm at a summit for my division and there's no way for my husband to get there on his own. So we're trying a walk-in tomorrow and/or Thursday rather than get re-scheduled for a later appointment date that could again potentially conflict with my work schedule.

If you live nearby the office, it can't hurt to try a walk-in to get it over and done with.

  13. Just got my biometric appointment letter. Will try a walk in tomorrow at the nearest ASC which is 20minutes away from my workplace.

Hopefully I'm will be admitted to take the biometrics...if not I will go everyday till they remember my face lol!

Which office in Chicago are you going to? My husband's going to try a walk-in on Wednesday, and again Thursday if Wednesday doesn't work. We're going to try N. Broadway and/or Pulaski. Let me know how it works out. Good luck!

  14. He'll just have to wait and keep calling/going to Haiti messenger. It took about six days for my husband to get his visa after they said it would be ready. I tried calling CIVA and they were of no help...waste of my money to get a PIN. Monday-Wednesday were holidays in Haiti for Carnival, so that is probably contributing to the delay. The embassy is probably closed on Monday for President's Day. I'd really start to worry and start calling, etc. if he doesn't have it by the end of next week.

  15. I'll call on Monday just to be sure, but it looks like we can walk into any office. I have to say though that it's a little frustrating that they need his fingerprints again. They took them at the visa interview at the embassy and again at the POE; both of which were less than four months ago. For us to travel 2.5 hours (longer with traffic) for a five minute appt is a lot. But c'est la vie. We'll try two offices over two days if necessary.

Our info isn't in the USCIS case status system yet either.

  16. We received the biometrics appointment letter today. The nearest ACS office is about 2.5 hours away. The appointment is scheduled for March 12. Since my division is having a global summit starting that day (actually the night before), with travel to Washington DC the next day through the end of that week, we're going to try to walk-in. I have to travel to Chicago next week for business, so we'll try the walk-in next week. I'm wondering: Can I walk into any ACS office in the Chicago area, or does it have to be the one listed on the appointment letter? I'll do a search here on VJ, but I'm hoping walk-ins are accepted in Chicago...we'll try twice if necessary...the morning I travel to Chicago and the next day on the way back home. I don't want to re-schedule because I'm afraid we'd get a later date...

One more thing: The biometrics appointment is just for the AOS and EAD. Are biometrics not required for the travel document? Or since it comes as a combo card with EAD is it included with EAD?
