  1. My 20 yr old son is Canadian citizen and US Permanent Resident since 2005. He is currently enrolled at University of Missouri going into his Junior year. He is doing a semester at Peking University in China from September 1 to December 16. Will he have any trouble re-entering the US with his GC? Will this have any effect on applying for US citizenship which I plan to do when he returns?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. I just walked in to the Waukegan IL office yesterday at 1pm. My appointment was for Aug 17. I tried to explain to the officer that I wanted to do early biometrics but before I could say anything he cut me off and said "give me your green card". He took it and started putting the form together on the clipboard. I wanted to clarify that I didn't have an appointment that day, he just smiled at me and said he didn't see or hear anything!

The office had only 1 other person waiting. I was next in line and the whole thing took less than 10 minutes. So I would definitely give it a try. The worst that can happen is that they will tell you to come back at the appointed time.

    Good Luck!

  3. Our appointment is August 17. My son needs to leave for school on the 15th. Instead of requesting a rescheduled appointment would it be possible to try to do a walk in? Anyone had a successful early walk in at Waukegan IL? How does it work? Do we just show up and what time of the day is best?

Thanks in advance for any info.

  4. Was wondering if the location for biometrics is the same as the office for interviews? I just got my biometric appointment and the location is only 15 minutes from my house in the Northern suburbs of Chicago. It's really convenient and it would be great if the interview is there too and I don't have to drive to downtown Chicago.

  5. He still has his Illinois Drivers License. He is still a full time student at University of Missouri. Should I file his application now even though he has been in China on his internship since May 29. He is returning to USA August 5th. He wil leave for Beijing again in September for his study abroad semester returning the end of December. Should I file in December when he returns or would I have to wait until March 2013 to fulfill the 3 month residency requirement. It's a bit confusing to me. Does the 3 months residency mean actual physical presence? We've lived in the same address in Illinois for 8 and 1/2 years with the exception of when he goes to school in Missouri since 2010.

It's a bit confusing to me. Does 3 month residency meant actual physical presence? Or just your home address?

    Thanks for any help!

  6. I'm filling out N-400 forms for my 24 and 21 yr old sons and myself right now. We are Canadians and have been Permanent Residents since 2005. I don't know what to do with my youngest son who is 20 yrs old. He will be a junior at University of Missouri this fall. He is presently in China on an internship. He will be back in the USA in August and will have been abroad 2 months. Since he is not in Illinois with us the past 3 months does that mean I can't file his application with ours?

Another complication is that he will be leaving the US again in September for his Study Abroad semester in Beijing. He will be out of US for 4 months. Do I have to wait until March 2013 to file his application? Also will these 2 trips of 2 months and 4 months jeopardize his application or Green Card status?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
