Did your officer check to see when the next ceremony is scheduled? I had my interview in Chicago on Dec 5th. After he told me I passed he checked to see when the next ceremony is, found out there is one on Dec 7 only 2 days later and asked me if I would like that date. I said yes, waited 40 minutes for the Oath Letter and became US citizen on Dec 7. A week letter I received another Oath Letter in the mail for ceremony on Dec 7.

I passed my interview on Dec 5 in Chicago. The officer offered me the Oath Ceremony on Dec 7 which I jumped at. I waited 40 minutes for the Oath Letter, and 2 days later came back for the Oath. Ironically a week after I became naturalized, the Oath Letter came in the mail summoning me to attend the ceremony on Dec 7th which I believe is computer generated.

Received Oath on Dec 7 in Chicago. Made appointment at passport office for same day service for today Dec 13th. Appointment was at 10am, got my passport at 12:30pm, I am airline crew so needed my passport ASAP. But anyone with confirmed airline reservations of less than 2 weeks or need to get a foreign visa within 4 weeks of travel can make appointment for same day service. Well worth the $60 and morning in Chicago.

I made an appointment at the passport office in Chicago for today. Since I am airline crew, I needed my US passport as soon as possible. My appointment was at 10am and by 12:30pm, I had my US passport in hand! It was absolutely worth the $60 expedited fee. Anyone with confirmed air travel within 2 weeks can make this appointment for same day passport.
Oh can someone please update my timeline. I had my Interview on Dec 5, Oath Ceremony Dec 7 and US Passport in hand Dec 13th.

I had my Oath ceremony in Chicago this morning. Please update my status to US Citizen! Thank you for this very informative and supportive forum. It took 5 months and 2 weeks to become a naturalized citizen. The ceremony started at 9am and we were done at 10:30am. There were 139 of us from all over the world. There was a country role call. My son and I were the only 2 Canadians. The ceremony was very moving and profound. We feel so fortunate to be citizens of two great countries! Good Luck and Best Wishes to those behind me in the process!

I had my interview in Chicago on Wednesday Dec 5th. I was offered the Oath Ceremony for today, 2 days later. I am now a US Citizen. Best Wishes for a quick conclusion to your journey.

I just passed my interview in the Chicago office today. My priority date was July 20th. It took exactly 90 days from when I was place in line for an interview to getting an interview date. You get approximately one months notice for your interview. You should be fine to leave the US to celebrate Christmas, but to be safe, have someone check your mail and let you know if and when you get the interview date. Being out of the country 2 weeks will have no bearing to your application. I am a Flight Attendant and since July 20 when my application was submitted, I had an additional 35 days and 12 trips out of the country. I just presented the officer an updated list and he amended my application. No problem! Hope that helps!

My interview was at 8:45am and was called at 9am. Officer was very nice. Gave me the test first, then went through my application. I passed and he approved me for citizenship. Asked if I wanted to take Oath on Friday, 2 days away! I said yes! Whole interview took 15 minutes. He said that they all dream of cases like mine, easy and no issues. Whole process was a pleasure! I will become a US citizen on Friday. Best Wishes to those following me!

I am very aware that 20 yrs old is an adult and am very familiar with American culture since my family and I are native born Canadians. But as my son is a full time university student and financially dependent on me, it is up to me to apply for his citizenship. I am also aware of when he is eligible to apply. We have been US Permanent Residents for 10 years and have not chosen to apply for US citizenship until now.
My question was whether it made any difference in the application process if I am a US citizen or not. And that question has been helpfully answered above. So once again thank you for your unwarranted input.
And by 'applying' for him I mean submitting the application and fee for him. Obviously he needs to apply for himself.

I have my interview on Wednesday and assuming everything goes well, I should get my oath in the next three months. My 20 year old son has been doing a study abroad semester in China since September. He will return to the US on December 16. I am planning to submit his citizenship application as soon as he returns. If I wait the few months until I become a US citizen, does it make his application easier or different?

Priority date is July 17 2012. Early Biometrics on July 31 2012. Waited exactly 90 days from being place in line for an interview to getting an interview date. Pretty much in the time frame stated for Chicago Field Office of 5 and half months from beginning to end.

I have my interview next week and am trying to decide whether to drive down from northern suburbs or take Metra train to Union Station. Is there ample parking available? I'm afraid to get lost and not be able to find parking. I see on the map 101 West Congress Parkway is not too far from Union Station and I could catch a bus or taxi to the building. Any info will be much appreciated.

I read in earlier post that some people were able to reschedule their interviews by fax which got a faster response than mailing the request in. Where can I find the fax number for the Chicago office?

Finally got a text stating that status has been updated. As of Nov 1, have been scheduled for interview. It took exactly 3 months to move from " in line to be scheduled" to actually being scheduled. How long do you think it will be to get the actual letter stating time of interview?

I have been in line to be scheduled for an interview since August 1. Still have not heard anything? It's frustrating to see other July filers receiving citizenship when I haven't even received an interview date.

Thanks! I feel better knowing others are in similar situation. I was afraid I had missed the interview letter. I just got off the phone with the most useless customer service agent. She couldn't understand my question and just read off what is on my case status online in a really thick southern accent.
I think there is a huge backlog of applications in Chicago.

Just checked my status online and it said that as of August 7th I was placed in line for interview. It's now Sept 19 and have not received any notification. Also I have not received any letter informing that I'm in line to be scheduled for interview. Is that normal procedure? Thanks!

Question on behalf of friend. Application and interview handled by Chicago Field Office. Since moved to St Louis. Can applicant ask to receive oath in St Louis?
