    Hello... I left my country 2007 with a big dream like yours. I met my ex-husband online and he visited me twice in my country and he even stayed there four months before he applied for my Fiancé Visa. To make my story short from 2004 to 2007 we chat everyday 7 days a week plus our personal meeting first 2 weeks then after 6 months he came back and stayed 4 months. I thought I knew him very well before we got married. After few months I got pregnant but my daughter was only 11 months when I left my ex-husband. I told myself I rather sleep in the street rather than staying in an abusive relationship. Me and my daughter end up in a Domestic Violence Shelter... I was homeless and had nothing except my daughter always in my arms. With the help of a small church me and my daughter was taken care of good Samaritans/Christian families. Went to work and now I had a wonderful husband. I have my own car, beautiful house and garden. Most important was my dear husband respect me and love me and took care of my daughter too.

    Looking back 2009 was a hell for me...scared what will my future be specially my daughter. The divorce was so ugly I thought I will end up crazy.

    I thank God for he always answered my prayers... Don't think negative. Just look forward for a good future and one day you will realized that bad story of yours was just a learning experienced. I know its difficult because back home I had a very good single life. I was working in a big multi-national corporation with all my family and friends around me. Here in USA it was just me and my daughter who was dependent on me. One day I was thinking about suicide but when I look at my daughters face I realized I have to be strong for her. From being homeless with expired 2 yr conditional green card I am now US Citizen. I always believed that if your experiencing bad things it means there's a big FAVOR coming.

    I received mine last week of January for Feb 22 Oath Ceremony... Jacksonville Fl. Office.

    Just had my interview... it went smoothly (Thank God) now my question is since i haven't found anybody here in the forum that has gone to the Hialeah Offices in Florida .... after the interview how soon you guys got your Oath ceremony letter???? just wondering how much longer I have to wait ... its going to be 6 moths now that i have been doing this paper never thought it was going to take this long. Thank you i appreciated! :)

    The officer didn't asked any picture. Just my passport (even expired). Well I didn't apply based on marriage. I am more than 5 yrs green card holder. But I sent all the required documents with the N-400. Pictures I submitted was just 2 passport size pics.

    Thank you Beth! I will make sure to stop by the pharmacy before the interview to take a few. You are right, we're going to need them for our passports anyway. Congrats on passing!

    Did you have any photos with you and your husband together to show to the officer at the interview?

    I ask everyone here (Visa Journey) 2 days before my Interview or last week the same question and two people reply yes...So I did.

    2 passport size again...But the Immigration Officer didn't ask for it. She just ask me to sign on the two pictures I sent with N-400 forms.

    Not sure what to say to you but maybe I can use these extra to apply for my passport.

    Is it necessary to bring photos to the interview? (Considering that my husband will be sitting inside waiting for me :devil: )

    Upd. I mean family photos, of course.

    BTW, I got a letter from USCIS saying that I need to bring 2 more passport photos with me :wacko: Where did the previous two disappear? I did a good job getting them at the postal office! :lol:

    Okalian,

    The Immigration Officer asked me after the Interview if I wanted Tallahassee or Gainesville? so I will not come back in Jacksonville I said I prefer Gainesville because its near for me. She said ok the office will send you the schedule of Oath Ceremony and it will be in Gainesville Courthouse.

    I don't think there's an oath Ceremony there. My roommate had his oath in Jacksonville.

    Missing Gainesville. GO GATORS!

    Hi! I hope your friend is alright and safe. I was a victim of Domestic Violence too 2009. I left my husband 1 month before my 2 year green card expire. We have 11 month old daughter that time. I have to leave my ex-husband because he has other woman too and the verbal and humilating was too much already and thinking I might do something that I might regret... Before I left the Philippines I remember we went for a day of Seminar for Domestic Abuse and I called the 1800 number the office from Manila gave me. To make story short I end up in a Domestic Violence Shelter (Florida). I suggest if she can call a Domestic Abuse hotline number this will give her all the information (all her Basic Rights as immigrant). By the way, I got my 10 year green card while in the shelter and Visa Fee Waived (I think its almost 750 dollars). Got food stamp and medicaid for my daughter. Happy Ending...now I'm happily married and my daughter is 4 years old we have our own house, car and I end up working as a Domestic Violence and Rape Victims Advocate in Florida. Just tell her don't be afraid theres help (Church people are great help too, go online and google Domestic Abuse hotline).

    Good advice - except that last part about community prop - Hawaii is not one of the 9 community prop states.

    Thank you. I stand corrected. Hawaii is an "equitable distribution" state.

    If the couple cannot agree on a fair property settlement, then the courts will determine which property is "marital property" and which is "separate property", and then determine an equitable distribution of the "marital property". Property which was separately owned before the marriage is rarely determined to be "marital property". I'm not aware of any state where a spouse has an automatic claim to half of everything their spouse owns, which was the assertion I was responding to. In a marriage of such a short duration, it's not likely she has a valid claim on much of anything.

    She should not think about their property settlement for now. the court will decide on that. She needs to get a safe place to stay and right counselors in her state. I used I-864 Affidavit of Support Form to pinned my ex husband in the court. Good thing I saved the extra copy with his original signature. Just read his obligation there and its self explanatory. We are 2 yrs married and not supposed to get alimony but I did.

    u can ask help anytime. the advocate will connect you to the nearest domestic abuse shelter.

    I remember that time I didn't have any money or car so the shelter sent a taxi and police officer to escort me. I know the feeling girl. I been on that situation and its not easy. Be strong, you are in USA. Law here are strong against abuse. I am not physically abused I didn't have any police call or record of abuse but I still won my case.

    Be encouraged, If you will go to the shelter, they will provide u with everything u need for 3 months. Just ask any help you can get.

    I am in Florida and here adultery is not a ground for divorce. I didn't have any lawyer too because public attorneys office says my case is not priority because I am not physically abuse. But i represented myself and WIN. All you need is your story and supporting documents. Now, If your planning to scape make sure you gather all the documents. Hide it in a safe place. Because that will be your strong evidence ok.

    My advise. Call the hotline for Abuse Women and Children and if you can pack your things and go to Domestic violence shelter. Or if you cant leave just ask about counseling. This is my first step when my ex has an affair and he was very mean to me. Even his family treat me like an alien.

    When I filed my I-751 I attached Certification from the shelter and this helps me alot specially for the divorce. the domestic advocates will get you a free lawyer. Now I got my justice. Never spent even single cent on my application for removing condition and divorce and I got child support and alimony too.
