First of all, I want to salute all our military men and their families for all the sacrifices they made for this country.
I've been here in visajourney, but my first time to post in military immigration column. I came here last June and married to the most wonderful man. Last August, we filed my AOS, and until now, it is still in acceptance stage. My hubby has been wanting to join the air force, and even though, I am quite anxious about it, I learn to trust God for everything. I want to support my hubby in everything that he does, and wants the best for him. Anyway, just today, we learned that in a couple of weeks, he will go for the basic training and go straight to technical school. All in all, he'll be away for almost 5 months. We cried together, we're just worried for each other, feeling crazy about being away for few months.. but I am happy for him... I just don't know what to do when he left. I thought I am prepared, but I guess, I am not..
Anyway, thank you for understanding what i feel. I have the following queries about our situation:
1) Is there any way we could speed up this AOS application? Its already 8 months, and we didn't hear anything. I want to go home while my hubby is away. I believe it is not advisable to get out the country while the application is pending. My hubby doesn't want me too, he scared that we might reapply for any paperwork and another waiting.
2) Since my hubby is leaving his job, do we need to inform the USCIS about it? when is the best time?
3) If for example, we will be called for the interview and my husband is in the training, what shall i do?
4) And since I will not be able to go home, I am thinking of staying for few months in my friend in another state, I just cant bear to stay in the house alone, do you think this is fine, in relation to my pending application?
Thank you so much for all help, I do appreciate it a lot. We are just quite lost, but I know, in God's time, everything will fall into its proper place.
I suggest you to call the USCIS and ask them about that, if it doesn't work then ask your hubby to call the senate and tell him/her about that. If you move, you should let the USCIS know.

Yes. I know about 100+ who have. I used to keep a list when it was not tried very often. Your original DS-3025 should be in your file turned in at POE. if it had the required shots properly marked and it was filled out correctly, then it will clear you on immunizations. Without the sheet to look at, you don't really know how it's filled out. Do you know what shots you had? You can always apply without an I-693 and wait to see if you are asked to get more proof of shots. An RFE is not a death sentence. It just adds a little extra time to getting the greencard.
I didn't get any RFE, I sent the papers then got biometrics appointment then interview.
Yes, I have the immunization record and that's all I have.
I just had my AOS interview today and I brought all the items that written in the mail from USCIS except the I-693 but the interviewer didn't ask for that, she just took some pictures that I brought, she didn't write anything on my passport, she just took my I-94 and asked to wait for the decision in 60 days and if it approved I will get 2 years green card. Will I get RFE after interview?. She asked my husband what are my parents name but my husband couldn't answer it and I didn't bring the pictures of my husband with my parents.

I wanna ask is there any of you have AOS approved without I-693form?. I'm a K1 visa holder and I applied my AOS within one year and I don't have the copy of DS 3025.

HELP!!
I came to US by K1 and I'll have AOS interview on this Thursday but I still cannot find a civil surgeon that will not rip me off (money is hard to earn), I almost give up to the $140 for the transcription of the I-693 only but they still can't do it in one day and it just available next week which is too late for me. I wanna ask if there is any of you who got the AOS approved without the I-693?. I'm very worry of this thing.

I'm still confused, about affidavit need to submit with I-129f or later when beneficiary getting interview at USEM
Based on my experience,No, you don't need to submit the affidavit with I-129f. You will need the affidavit when you have the interview at the embassy, but it's better to have it ready as the papers might take a while to complete. Good luck!

If uscis recognizes baptism letter and they don't see any issue means its legal. Then you can happily use your new name. I am not sure if baptism letter is valid for a legal name change. Uscis won't approve anything until its legal.
My baptizm letter has seal, it was issued by the church and i sent my DoD which was issued by the military base and it has my new name there, are they good enough?
-
If you didn't opt for a name change during your marriage then keep your original name during application. I am not sure if USCIS recognizes baptizm letter, if not then you will get RFE and you will have to explain all these. Name change will cost you a lot if you haven't changed it during marriage.
Keeping your older name won't create any issue. You need not change your name after marriage, that's optional.
If the USCIS recognize my baptizm letter, do you think it will be okay?. If USCIS can issue my greencard with my new name, do you think i still need to go to the court to change my name?. I want to change my name as i always have trouble with paperworks asking for my first and last name, i just has one single name (in one word,no last or first name). I hope my new name is acceptable *fingers cross*

use your new name and provide your marriage certificate. All your documents including passport can be in any name as long as those names are mentioned on your marriage certificate.
I have a question about AOS too, i came by k1 n married within 90 days, my marriage certificate just has my single name as the recorder didn't ask for name change after married and we didn't know about that. I sent my AOS papers by using my new name, i used my christian name as my first name (i sent my baptizm letter as the only evidence), my single name as my middle name and my husband last name as my last name ( i sent my marriage certificate). I also sent my DoD card copy as my husband is active member in military and it has my new name. Do you think it will be okay?

Give it a little time you will get your NOA1 if all your information is complete. The 1-94 expirattion has no bearing as long as you get married within 90days
I got marriied within 90 days. I got NOA mail today, my case is in process now, thank you.
-
I sent in my papers for K1 AOS 10 days ago but still no NOA1. I start thinking is it because of my I-94 has expired?. I sent the AOS after my I-94 expired for 14 days.

The rub is that you need a COMPLETE tax return which can include other documenation that you may not include and will get an RFE for--and YES THEY NEED TO BE SIGNED AND DATED. That is why we here on VJ recommend you go to the IRS website and request free tax transcripts as those ARE complete tax returns and are also official in the eyes of the USCIS as the IRS did actually receive and process the return. So please make your life easier and get tax transcripts and then you will not ahve to worry about signing the tax return or if you included all the required forms and documentation.
Dave
ok.thanks

Welcome to the forum.
Get tax transcripts from the IRS.
we have 1040 and w-2 for 3 years and letter or employment,so the tax return (1040) still have to be signed or not?
-
If your Embassy will accept a tax transcript, I would get those instead of the original 1040. A tax transcript is what you filed with the IRS. A 1040 is a form that you may or may not have filed. It needs to e signed BTW.
Dave
I have almost the same question, we are going to send the AOS and filling the I-864. We will submit three recent years tax return but no sign and date on it cause we got them by email. my question is the tax return copy have to be sign or not?. thanks.

I filed under my maiden name, and my husband is a USC. I don't think it matters, as long as the name is used consistently on all forms for the AOS package...
I know this is an old post but i'm trying to get the best answer of my question, I came to US by K1 visa and got married within 90 days. I'm having trouble with my name, I just have one single name in my passport and birth certificate and when i asked for marriage license the recorder just wrote my single name, i want to change my name (use my christian name which is written my baptizing letter as my first name, my single name as my middle name and my husband last name as my last name). My question is can i file my AOS, i-184 and other forms with the name that i want to have even i just have my one single name in my marriage certificate?. What is the best way for me to do with this problem?. Thank you in advance.

What does FNU mean? I recieved a letter from the National Visa Center, that has FNU, in front of my Fiance' name. So I was wondering what it mean. Thank you for you help to any one that can assist.

FNU is first name unknown, you fiance must have one single name. I got the same.

~~~~Topic split from an old thread.~~~~
Cellas please ask your questions in your own thread, hijacking old post will not be any good to get your answers.
I was thinking the old post must have more experience people that know the answer of my question exactly. But thank you for your suggestion.
What name do you want to use? "Single name" as your first name, and "new married name" as your last name? or your new married name as your new single name?
Your single name is written as your last name on your marriage certificate? The first name spot is empty?
I want to use my christian name as my first name( i have it written in my baptizing letter from the church), my single name as my middle name and my husband last name as my last name.
Yes, my single name is written as my last name and the first name spot is empty ( the recorder wrote - on the first name spot, which is mean no first name) in my marriage certificate.
-
One hijacked post removed as I already split the question from another post.
I did posted the same question to another post as i need help about it badly. I have tried to find the answer but i got different answers, so i'm so confused and tried to post the same question and hope i can get the best answer or suggested the most as i have to file my AOS as soon as possible. I hope you understand. Thanks!
You are just being pranoid.
Hii...everybody, I came to US by K1 visa almost 2 months ago and we got married almost a month ago. I'm confused about my name, I just have one single name in my passport and birth certificate and the they gave me the visa and wrote FNU in my first name which is mean First Name Unknown. When I applied for marriage license the recorder didn't write the FNU in my first name after I tell her I just have one single name. And now I have to apply for the AOS and want to change my name too,what name should i write in my AOS?. What should I do first?. Please help!
-
You are the sponsor. You complete the I-864 and that is it. The rest are completed by the applicant/immigrant. The proof of relationship you collect until (if) you have an interview
There is an AOS thread in my signature with the doc list.
So meaning to say original documents is a must? Thanks
Based on my experience, yes. G-325, letter of intend should be original. Good luck!
G-325 and papers that require signature should be original signature. Scan or fax is like copy.
I can tell you that, I got AOS interview and in the letter, it written that I should bring completed I-693. I had my medical within one year. I came to the AOS interview without I-693 and they approved it within 2 weeks. Maybe I just got lucky the interviewer didn't ask for I-693.
