Good luck, keep us updated. The new update of the processing times is frustrating as if they are just stuck in last June...
Thanks - I will!

If you search posts beyond 3-4 years, there were N400 cases that skipped the biometrics since the ROC biometrics were still valid. It looks like they are not doing this anymore, everyone gets fingerprinted even if they have a valid biometrics on file.
I applied to my N400 9 months after my ROC biometrics were taken, I still gave fingerprints for my N400. The two biometrics were 10 months apart.
Got it - thanks so much for the clear (as possible) answer! Maybe I can verify with our local office when we go in for our Infopass appointment to get her I-551 stamp.
-
I guess we could make an even earlier appointment just to ask about it. But I wonder if they might not tell us the same thing as whoever we have to see later to get the stamp anyway. I wish the office wasn't an hour and a half away. :-/
-
Just to clarify: When my wife applies for naturalization, does she have to do the biometrics all over again even if she already did it less than a year ago for the removal of conditions on her green card?
This info isn't as easy to find as I hoped.
Thanks!

It depends on the office and on the individual officer. But you have nothing to lose (except a few hours of your time) to go in and ask, and a whole lot of peace of mind to gain!
Right. Thanks for the encouragement! Just worried that if we've already bought the tickets, they might still refuse and then we'd be out of luck.

They won't issue you the stamp that early, they always say roughly about a month before the expiration. I talked to an USCIS agent, she told me that and my lawyer told me the same thing. Just curious, why do you need it early? It is not something we can just demand whenever we want..
Got it. Thanks. It's because we'll have plans to be traveling outside the country for about three months, starting two months before the letter expires. I wonder if plane tickets would be enough to convince them?
-
How far in advance of the extension letter's expiration did you go in? Wondering if we can go in two or three months before the letter's expiration to cover travel that will overlap the expiration date.
-
32 minutes ago, Zombie69 said:
No, you can't as far as I know. They only do 551 about a month before your expiration is about to expire
Are you sure? Having trouble finding confirmation of that anywhere.

Yes, my lawyer and an USCIS phone representative told me the one year extension expires one year after the NOA date even though there are conflicting reports that suggest the extension expires one year after the CG expiration date. My lawyer adviced me to go with the NOA letter date. About a month before the expiration date on your NOA, you can make an info pass appointment to get your conditional residency extended for another year by having your passport stamped with 551 while 751 is still pending.
Do you know if we can go in and get it earlier, like a three months before the expiration date? We might be traveling for a few months.
-
Oh, it's for getting the stamp to replace the one-year extension letter, right? Is there a rule about how far ahead of the expiration date we can do that?
-
What are the Infopass appointments for?

Nothing is beyond reproach. While most people I interacted with never got anything till the approval, some did get RFE and interviews. Best keep an eye out.
Okay. Thanks!

How likely is it that we'll get called in for an interview for the removal of conditions?
My wife (applicant) and I (USC) were planning to spend a few months traveling starting this September. We could fly back early for an interview if we absolutely had to, but obviously that's a very undesirable option.
-
Adding my wife's case to the list (11/01/16). Originally posted it in September 2016, but due to complications related to a fee waiver request, we ended up re-submitting our papers in November.

For anyone stumbling across this in the future and wondering what happened:
We went to the first appointment, and were immediately asked, "Do you have both of your appointment notices?" It turned out that they meant to accompany the second appointment notice with a letter cancelling the first one, but failed to do so...for ANYONE. They were supposed to cancel all appointments that day to train the staff on how to use some new biometrics computer systems, but given the circumstances, they decided to allow anyone who had come from out of the metro area (more than about a half-hour drive) do their biometrics on the first date anyway, while sending locals away with a request to come back on the second appointment date.
We had come from an hour or so away, so they let my wife do the biometrics. They made it very clear that she didn't need to come back again for the second date, so we didn't, and nothing bad happened.
We did ask to speak with the immigration officer about an unrelated question, but they turned us away, saying we needed an InfoPass appointment to do that.
-
My wife and I visited Taiwan for a month recently, and returned using her expired green card and the letter (and passport of course). Immigration agents at San Francisco airport instantly recognized the letter and knew what was going on. No trouble at all. I don't remember the airline even asking - if they did, they didn't give her any trouble.
-
Thank you so much! That's great to know!
The problem with the duplicate appointment notices for the ASC biometrics appointments are still due to the glitches in the system from NASS our new scheduling system. If you get duplicate appointment notices please bring all of them with you and appear at the ASC on the first appointment day and time and let them know you are getting duplicate notices. So would you recommend we ask to talk to the immigration officer about this specific issue, or is it something the contract staff at the ASC can get sorted out for us?
-
Yeah, I guess we'll try that. Thanks.
My wife called in to USCIS today, twice. The first person, who apparently had a very bad attitude, told her the first appointment had been canceled. The second told her to just go to the first one with both letters, and someone will be able to clear it up.
-
Thanks, everyone. Will someone at the ASC office be able to address the issue in the same way that a Tier 2 person on the phone would? Because we're thinking to go to the first appointment either way, just in case.
-
Hey guys,
My wife received her ASC Appointment Notice for the I-751 biometrics a week or two ago, notice date 11/19/2016 for appointment date 12/07/2016. Today we got a second ASC Appointment Notice letter in the mail, with notice date 11/26/2016, for an appointment on 12/16/2016. The two forms seem to be exactly the same in every way, except for those dates. Same code, same application numbers.
Has anyone else heard of this happening? I suppose we'll just show up for the first one and talk to them then, but it would be nice if someone has any insights on what's going on.
Thanks!
P.S. We did have some complications when we initially filed the I-751: We filed with a fee waiver request, but hadn't heard back by the time her conditional green card was expiring, and then managed to file again with the fee just under the wire. We received the NOA for that second attempt, and later finally received the fee waiver denial for the first attempt (though for some reason the myUSCIS case status lookup says our fee was waived, despite them having cashed the check and said they received payment in the NOA). I might speculate that they had accidentally opened two separate cases for us, except for the fact that both the "Application Number" and "Application Number 2" are exactly the same on both ASC appointment notices.
-
Maybe their wording has bad grammar. They're saying conditional residents and their dependents who are living abroad with the USC because they are working for the military or government aren't required to attend an ASC center for biometric processing (you know, since they're overseas). The rest of us residing in the US will be attending biometric appointments so they have a photo, fingerprint and signature to put on our shiny new cards
OH, it's missing a comma after "dependents"...that makes so much more sense. Thanks! I promise I wasn't trying to be jerk about grammar, haha! I kept reading it as applicants + overseas dependents.
-
What does the NOA letter mean when it says:
NOTE: Conditional resident applicants, including conditional resident dependents residing overseas pursuant to military or government orders WILL NOT RECEIVE and ASC appointment notice. To complete biometric processing, these applicants must submit the required items listed on the I-751 form instructions.
Aren't all I-751 filers "conditional resident applicants"??
-
Received our NOA1 today, just days after our second attempt at filing.

Easiest way to add/update the List
1. Make sure you are on the correct thread you want to add the post to.2. At the top of the thread, you will find a blue button that says "Reply to this topic". Click it.3. You will see your posting box. You don't need to alter any fonts or colors etc. One of the icons (top right hand side) is the editor options. Once clicked 2 boxes pop up. Make sure "Paste as plain text by default" is unchecked.4. Scroll down the page until you come across the first applicant date list. Copy and paste the list and relevant information and paste it in the editing box above. (I use the right mouse click button to copy text and right mouse click to paste. DO NOT "Paste as plain text" as it may not format correctly).5. Your information in the editing box should look like the actual post with all lines and hyphens in line with each other.6. If you are adding your name to the list, you need to add a line. Place cursor at the end of the last line and press enter. This continues the correct font and size. Enter information (your VJ name in CAPITALS) and be careful not to erase any other lines. If you are unsure if you have, click cancel button and start again.7. To edit hyphens to add dates, find your line with your information on it and delete the hyphens and replace with date.8. Lastly, if you added your name, make sure you put yourself in the right service center ie, Vermont or California. Remember to change the number of applicants depending on which service center your petition is at.9. PREVIEW POST. Just to make sure everything looks right before posting. If it looks right, then "Add reply". You're done. -
We ended up re-filing our petition, with payment this time. Sent 11/1, arrived at California Service Center 11/3. Wasn't worth the hassle of dealing with what might have come next (after her green card expires on 11/4) if they really did loose our first petition.
