One more thing, you can go to the immigration timelines (here on VJ near the top of the page) and click on POE information. Some people say whether they received the temp EAD in the comments.

On quick glance, I saw one entry from February (of this year) where Houston was the POE and the temp EAD stamp was not given.

There is only one JFK airport - in New York, New York. And, they give the EAD. Although my hubby got his and many people do, I want to say that a couple of people did not get the stamp. I have no idea about Houston; hopefully someone else can field that one.

And there are some direct flights from JFK to major cities in Africa, so hopefully JFK will be a financially reasonable option for you.

Hi. Welcome to visajourney. Yes, a tourist visa seems to be hard to come by if the tourist is coming from many countries in Africa. Proving ties to the home country is a big hurdle; the evidence includes a job where the employer will show that they think/know you are returning, owning a house, etc. I tried it (to get a tourist visa for my now husband) and I do not think it works very well if it is a family business, because their is an incentive for the family to say whatever the tourist wants them to say.

Anyway, you mentioned getting married, which involves a totally different visa process. If you want him to come here and get married, then you will have to apply for a K-1 visa. If you want to get married before he comes to the U.S. then you will have to apply for a K-3, CR-1, etc. I only know about the K-1 visa because that is the route I chose. Just be mindful that he will not be able to come to the U.S. on a tourist visa with the intent to immigrate because that is considered visa fraud.

I sent a copy (regular XEROX copier machine copy) of everything I sent in the original I-129F petition. But I also sent certified copies of major documents that the interviewer may request an original such as divorce decree and birth certificate. I also sent originals of notarized documents, just make sure you have more than one orginal, just in case. And I sent what I considered my best pictures.
