  1. Congrats on your interview. You both must be so excited! Wow, I can't wait for that day. And yes we are staying in Manila for a few days to wait for the VISA at MOA also before going to Cebu to close up business there.

    Aloha Ke Akua

165 dollars for who? We are a CR-1. I thought we already paid everything?

Also, forgot to tell you this:

    TRAVEL TAX AND AIRPORT FEES

Philippine Nationals are expected to pay for the Philippine Travel Tax upon departure from the Philippines. It is usually paid at the airport upon departure or; oftentimes, already included in the cost of the ticket when purchased. US Nationals and Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) are exempt from the Philippine Travel Tax. US Permanent Residents need to secure a Travel Tax Exemption Certificate from the Philippine Tourism Authority at the Department of Tourism Building at TM Kalaw Street, Ermita Manila. The Philippine Travel Tax is PHP1,620.00 (approximately $35.00).

Check out this link above, it will explain. The letter explaining this also was attached to the visa when we picked it up.

It was a surprise to us, then I remembered I had read this before and forgot about it.

  3. ALL FILIPINA'S are required to take the CFO class prior to leaving the Philippines, no exceptions. (As far as I know)

Check out the official site here: http://www.cfo.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1347&Itemid=917

Here's a little heads up: The people at CFO can be a real pain in the you know what so she better get started right away. The class is offered only in Manila and Cebu. The classes are limited to like 12-15 attendees per day and it is first come first served basis. So she will need to line up early. As usual no appointment here. The required forms and documents are listed on the web site but be warned, the interviewers there can apparently ask for whatever documents they feel like that day depending on their mood so your wife may have to go back another day to complete the requirements. My wife ended up having to go three times, even though she brought all the required documents the first day. So if I were you I'd get started. As far as I know there is no exception to this rule. ALL FILIPINA'S leaving the country must attend this class. After completion of the class she will be given a certificate of completion. She will have to return to the CFO office AFTER GETTING HER VISA so the CFO people can affix some kind of a seal to her VISA/PASSPORT. You cannot get the stamp until she has the VISA in hand. So there's one thing you need to get done before she will be allowed to leave the country. Of course she can do this after the VISA is issued but it could take a week or more, depending on how many times she has to line up and perhaps even come back. If sh'e lucky she might get the course completed the first day but it ma=eans lining up like 3 hours early, in Cebu anyway. So good luck and GOD SPEED.

    ALOHA KE AKUA

Just a follow up to above, we just completed our interview last week Monday and were approved! Make sure to ask the last window to have your visa for pickup and Mall of Asia at GO2, we had it in hand on Wednesday (2 days) The lines outside the Embassy were very long, I would say a thousand people all lined up in time slots of 15minute appointment times. We spent about one hour before the appointment time before they moved us inside, we were both dripping wet it was a very humid and hot morning, so be prepared for that. The CFO office was also busy this time, almost 2 hours wait just to get the sticker, we had already completed seminar. One last thing, there is a $165 charge you need to pay online after you pickup the Visa and before you leave. Anyway, congrats everyone. We are headed to the US in 48 hours :)

  4. At least you guys got nice people when you called! I called today to get some clarification on scheduling and got Mr. Impatient @ NVC who was clearly reading to me from a script. At least I got to say what I thought was going on, even though he was telling me the standard BS line they give to everyone. This part is incredibly frustrating, that they can't even SCHEDULE the dates; I mean, I understand that the dates fill up, but why is it so hard to schedule people for when there IS an opening? haha, I know that is a silly question, as it could be asked of almost any stage... (esp why does it take 2 weeks to generate an NVC case number?).

OK, back to waiting. And stalling all the people who keep asking me when the interview will be...

PS. Let's see if this worked: A super-rudimentary scatter plot of the information in our interview list - if I had the right tools, a frequency distribution would be better probably ... X-axis is individuals who posted their "Received" interview date (65 people when I entered this; includes multiple months) and Y-axis is day of the month that the interview date info was received. Recently, it has not been just the beginning of the month but almost equally at the end of the month as well - but definitely sparse in the middle (all expedites?) .... anyway, kinda cool to see it visually.

    NICE...I like it!

  5. Speedwell,

I dont think you are looking at rumor. If you have been part of this thread for very long you will see. The first 7 days of month about 90% of the interview dates are given. dwheels76, maybe you can confirm this. There is however a few that get dates in the middle of the month, but those are usually expedites. Jut look at the recvd dates in our list and you will see when the majority are given.. I was also told this Kinda "off the record" at about 11pm one night by NVC after calling everyday. But Hey...hope Im wrong and you get your date soon.

Correction about 98% I just looked at the list above. Look at the Received column, that is when we each got our dates, Its the government, they dont want you to know facts you might hold them accountable LOL

  6. I just talked to someone at the NVC. At the advice of someone at the NVC, we had asked for an expedite due to USCIS error (they misplaced our file between the USCIS and the NVC). That expedite request was not granted. I hope this does not delay our case.

I also heard from someone that the only schedule interviews at a certain time of the month, but it was not clear whether that meant the scheduling was done only at that time of the month, or the interview times were only available during a certain time of the month.

    _______________________________

OK, I decided to call the NVC back and ask them that question. The rep said, "I understand what you're saying, but I believe that isn't correct. There isn't a specific time of the month when we schedule interviews. We schedule interviews based on the capacity of the embassy." He also said that the expedite request was not going to delay our case and they are going to schedule an interview time as soon as they can.

I don't know where the rumor started that the NVC only schedule interviews at the beginning of the month. I did a search and saw other posters say their interview assignments arrived at other times of the month. It could be that the embassy has a genral update at the beginning of each month, but it doesn't seem to be true that interviews are ONLY assigned at the beginning of the month.

  7. argh..its already been 7 days since CC..and still no interview date.....now I'am getting worried I won't get an interview date for June..

I know they already scheduled someone for a June interview at the Tokyo embassy...I finished 7 days after them.crying.gif (technically I would've finished before them if I didn't get that RFE)

And I saw someone who was CC 1 day after me and already got their interview date(diff embassy though) so whats the hold up?ClockWatch2.gif

Am I freaking out for no reason?cray5ol.gif I'am still not 100% sure how this interview scheduling works, but if NVC has to wait for the embassy to send them a list, it was already sent out..so I don't understand this wait...*sighs*

The usually only schedule at the beginning of the month, with only a few exceptions. Then they only have few appointments available for eah embassy and they use the Cases complete and the priority dates in order. Sorry but I think your looking at getting scheduled first week of July for an August date. Hope you are an exception, good luck!

  8. My wife was given an envelope. I did not ask her if it was a cd or not. I will ask her later when she wakes up and gte back to you. More importantly, the St Lukes personnel hand wrote a notation in her passport that she had completed and passed the exam. The way I understand it is some papers are given to the patient and others are forwarded directly to the embassy. I will get back to you on what the passport notation says and the description of the envelope she was given.

I would appreciate that. All they gave her was sealed CD. She was given it after she completed all the shots, so she thought that was everything.
