  3. Car loans are not easy to get. The dealership that we went to racked up 15 (!) credit inquiries on my report before someone agreed to take the loan on. I have about 3 years of credit history and I also have made payments on time every month on all my cards AND we bought a used car and only financed 6.4k. Another thing of note is that they didn't want my husband on the loan because his social security card still said "Valid for work ONLY with DHS Authorization" We just got that fixed last week.

I don't know about the in state drivers license but I only had a learners permit and they still let me buy the car.

  4. Ah, I was hoping it was for all of them. Just a tip, hospital debt collectors tend to be more verbally aggressive as they cannot do anything but talk to you to reclaim the debt. It's not like a car which can be repossessed. One time I had an old medical bill with an outstanding balance that I had forgotten about and I got a call and the lady said "so you don't pay you're bills then?" and I said, "no, not this one" and she said "well we'll report it to your credit as a failure to pay" (just an fyi this is not possible) and I hung up on her. 2 years later it went off my credit report per the 7 year rule.

  5. Thanks for your response! The guy I spoke to from the collection agency was very nice and willing to help us. He spoke to his supervisor to ask what would be the best course of action and we agreed to pay for the amount we were quoted, as we have agreed to do all along, and he was completely fine with that. I'll contact the billing department next to see if they have any clue as to what's going on with our case, seeing as Gloria is about as helpful as a wet sock.

If you spoke to someone at the collection agency and the two of you agreed to a payment amount that you are going to pay, the bill is now closed and you do not have to talk to the hospital anymore.

  6. Like others are saying, you cannot be deported for not paying a medical bill. As far as I'm aware, late medical bills can be reported to bill collectors, but other than calling you, they can't do anything else to reclaim the debt. I think you'll find that some people think they can magically give themselves deportation powers just by speaking them out loud. What Gloria said to you was rude an uncalled for. Definitely report her.

The next time the collection agency calls, inform them that you are in dispute with the hospital with regard to the bill. This should stop their calls to you. If it doesn't, you can also report them.

Stop talking to Gloria and talk directly to the billing department at the hospital. You are within your rights to request a full itemized listing of all your bills and charges so you can see exactly what they are charging you for.

  7. Just a tip: I bet a million bucks USCIS officers read these boards. Just like they read all our facebook accounts. If what you want to do is illegal, it's not hard to get caught these days if you are writing about it on public forums. The system is not perfect, no system is. But literally everyone who is in a binational relationship has to go through it. I personally do not understand people who choose not to tow the line. You have too much to loose. IE, as several people have said, deportation and a lifetime ban. This seems not to faze you.

  8. I understand what malenliem is saying but we all are apart from our SO's during this process. I had a terrible time of it too, crying almost every day. I made myself go out to a meet up and when they asked me to introduce myself I burst into tears. BUT it was worth it! We filed our k-1 in April and I was able to visit him in that previous November, January, March, and then again in June. he was appoved in late July. He still didn't actually come over until December due to interview and medical times etc. It's super tough but if your heart is set on returning to Chicago I think it's worth it to go.

  9. The K-3 is basically a dead visa. The I-130 used to take several years to process so that's why it was useful. Now it takes 6 months to 1 year. as long as you file your I-130 and you have established intent to return to the US which you obviously have because of your plans to work in Chicago, your wife can visit you on the VWP while her visa is processing as long as she goes back to Japan for her interview. If you file now is you will be 4 months into processing time by august and your wife can visit for 90 days so that will bring you to 7 months. It won't be that bad. Best of luck to you.

  10. Your situation is not going to look good at your AOS interview. Sometimes I think people forget that your immigration status is in the hands of whichever IO is on duty that day and is assigned your case. Say you get one that looks at your file and says "hmm, filed a k-1, then filed a b-2, came over on the b-2 and then abandoned k-1 and adjusted status. hmm, looks like a clear case of intent to me. denied." then what will you do? I am not sure you have thought that far ahead. USCIS has very literal rules and you can't just go making your own up.
