  1. Hi all,

Best of wishes to all of you!

My case was under AP for a month now. E1 category. I sent email twice only receive one response, telling me it is in process. I don't know what exactly they are processing and I don't know why it takes so long. The actual work and time they put on each case would be probably less than one day and there might be a huge backlog on all the APed cases. Let's wait and stay positive and hopefully all of you are out of AP in no time. Montreal U.S. consulate doesn't have a telephone and email communication is less efficient. I call DOS everyday and the polite representatives always give me the same answer, still under AP, no idea how long it will take. It is a painful process however, we all hope it ends soon.

    Hi NVC, any updates yet?

  2. I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is a US citizen. I had my CR-1 Immigrant visa interview at Montreal consulate in September 2012. My interview was 10 minutes long and the interviewing officer asked me basic questions about our relationship etc. Once the interview was done, he handed me a welcome letter and told me I should get my visa within 4 to 5 days.

Instead, I received a letter from the embassy in mail saying that my case has been put into administrative processing. It has been five months but no update. I involved congressman but they couldn't do much. their response is "the case is still undergoing administrative processing".

They told me my case is documentarily complete and didnt ask for any further documentation.

Can someone tell me why the case is in AP and how much longer it can take? Is this normal..This is really frustrating.

Also I was born in Pakistan...not sure if this has anything to do with this. Please help.

Hey Fez81, I was wondering if you received your visa yet?

  3. MY STATUS ON CEAC SHOWS ISSUED BUT BELOW THAT THEY ARE SAYING CASE UNDER NECESSARY ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR PASSPORT THROUGH LOOMIS AFTER COMPLETION OF THIS PROCESS

DURING THE INTERVIEW AT MONTREAL on MAY 24,2013 THEY DON'T GIVE ME ANY 221G FORM OR ANYTHING AND THE INTERVIEW OFFICER TOOK MY PASSPORT AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL SEND IT IN FEW DAYS.

Any one have any idea about this I am recently reading horrifying stories about ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING.... I AM BORN IN INDIA AND PRESENTLY LIVING IN CANADA(DOES IT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE). Thank you all and best of luck for everyone...

I think "issued" means that your visa has been issued. In my case for example, the officer issued 221G form and my status on CEAC shows administrative processing.

Try to call the DOS, they will be able to tell you the status of your visa.

    Best of luck.. Congratulations!!

  4. I have been tracking 50 AP cases in the last few weeks, and there are 10 cases approved in the last two weeks. It is great news and hopefully all of APers get out of AP sooner than later.

A positive indication of approval is that your status is changing frequently, every few days.

Sarah at DOS has been excellent on updating your status. I have talked to 20+ representatives. She is the only one who can tell me what is really going on. All other representatives have only one phrase "still under AP, call back later, we will be happy to check for you again."

Thanks Sarah for the information. I think AP varies based on individual cases. Hopefully our cases will be approved soon

I am so confused about the status change, in my case it changes every time an inquiry is submitted to the consulate. I talked to a DOS rep. and she said that they only update the status every time they answer an email.

    No updates! still in AP......ClockWatch2.gif

    Mehr, any updates yet?

  5. any other updates from anyone?

    Hey zubi2lute..

Nothing yet. My attorney contacted Montreal consulate last week and got the same reply "still undergoing administrative processing" It has been 4 months for me..

I think it is a good sign that the date changes without an inquiry.

I don’t see many people in AP from Canada which makes it really hard to predict the time frame for AP in Canada.

I hope this will be over very soon for everyone in AP..

  6. nope. same here. last update 4/22. i check CEAC website everyday.

will post if/when it is updated.

i'd be great if they would take my biological clock into account smile.png but i guess this is what we get for doing things the right way. sigh...

    AP for 22 weeks now

I guess we alll in the same boat!!

Did you contact your congressman again?

The only time mine was updated is when i sent an email to the consulate.

  7. Nothing as of yet for me.. It is so frustrating..

I think they update it each time you inquire about the status of your visa. Mine was updated on April 2nd, the same day they replied back to my email. i received the same answer (still undergoing AP).. In your case, i think they updated it when your congressman contacted them.

I hope this will be over soon..

No updates as of yet :(

Have been checking the CEAC website everyday.

I contacted the congressman and they did contact the consulate because DOS/NVC mentioned that they saw that on our file.

However, the congressman just received a letter from the Montreal consulate that said it's still in processing and they dont know how long it will take. so it was useless.

I did notice that the date on the Last status update was 3/12/13 "administrative processing" and that is a little bit after I contacted the congressman (3/8/13).

    Not sure what that means.

    how's everything with you?

  8. I am trying to stay optimistic, I was not born in Canada, but grew up here, never travelled to any of the "T" countries, clean background, don't have a muslim name, not a muslim either. I hope you all get out of AP very soon, keep your fingers crossed for me

All the best to you!! Stay optimistic and be honest in the interview. Everything will be fine.

    Keep us posted..

  9. So I've heard, I haven't seen any females put in AP at the Montreal consulate, or at least non reported here on VJ, do they place everyone in AP without an exception? or it's case to case basis? depending on name? travel history? I have no idea how they determine one to be placed in AP

It is more common for male. I am a male (Canadian),my wife is an American..

So i have heard it takes longer for male applicants. I suggest you be prepared for it, but it may not happen. I did not know about it until after the interview.

  10. it has been over 100 days (17 weeks or so) since our CR-1 interview at the Montreal Consulate and we are STILL in AP.

The reason we can gather is because of his Muslim name. He was born in Canada and his parents were born in India and Pakistan.

Also he lived in the US as a minor for a few years and I work for the Federal Government.

These are potential "reasons" our case may be in AP.

I have emailed the consulate about 3 times with useless replies arriiving 3-5 weeks later.

Called DOS and NVC with no help.

They have told us it is in Mandatory AP and they don't know anything because of 'Homeland Security"

Contacted senators and congressman when I was living in NY with no reply or help.

Recently completed the move and used ABF and crossed under my name as marital property per instructions from CBP officers. Had no problems thank goodness with that

Now that I am in a new district, contacted congressman and they have placed an inquiry, basically they received a letter stating the same useless information.

Received call from NVC supervisor at odd times (missed calls at 8pm, 11pm) from 603-334-9400 who basically told us it's Mandatory AP and to be patient, they know nothing.

I also spoke with an immigration attorney, who was very helpful - she said that I should actually stop contacting the consulate, DOS, etc because it will actually delay our case. Each time they have to "pull" our case and look at it, it potentially causes a delay. She also said there's nothing much she can do except put an inquiry into the DOS which would take about 30 days to execute as well. She also mentioned that there are no time constraints that these people have to follow and they have to answer to no-one.

    soo...

    that's about it.

I guess i'm wondering who else has been under Mandatory AP given 221g form for Mandatory Administrative Processing from Montreal, US and how long did it take?

His parents went through AP for their own Greencard, but it only took about 9 weeks, that's the only case we can compare ourselves to because I don't see many Montreal AP cases here.

He is visiting me now while i was getting settled in, but obviously he won't overstay his welcome of 6 months. Also worried that the visit may adversely affect our case.

He is studying for his professional licensure for the US but can't work obviously until this is settled.

just venting and hoping someone has encouraging anecdotes to share

I am in AP since the end of January. I has been 8 weeks for me. I was not given a reason.

I was not born in Canada. I am Canadian by Naturalization. I think it is common for people with certain backgrounds.

Did you try to check the status of your application online? Here is the link:

    https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?eQs=o/iS8zDpeAKjMWCuebHqOw==

With respect to your lawyer, I don't agree with her. I doubt they physically check the file but rather pull the updates from the computer. That is my thought about it but i could be wrong.

I know how frustrating this is. I hope we all out of AP very soon..

Please update your timeline so other users can benefit from it.. Thanks

  11. Hi all,

I am hoping anyone can help me with my question.

In July 2001, i went to the US on a tourist visa. I stayed 6 months and i renewed my Visa for 6 more months. I left there April 2003 (over stayed my visa for 9 months). At the time when i went to the US, i had my visa on my Egyptian passport.

During my stay in the US, i applied for Canadian immigration. i was granted legal entry to Canada in April 2003 (when i left the US). Now i am a citizen in Canada.

I got married to a US citizen. We started CR1 visa for me. We applied for a CR1 visa using my Canadian citizenship. In the mean time, NVC requested my fingerprint from Egypt which is delaying the process (i lived in Egypt for more than 6 months after the age of 16)

i visited my wife several times and i was never denied entry to the US.

My question is: Considering that my CR1 visa was processed as a Canadian, Am i a subject to 3 or 10 years ban law? if i was asked in the interview, I will be faithful and tell them about my 9 months over stay in 2002 - 2003.

Or because I am applying through Canada (not using my Egyptian citizenship), my over stay will not be count.

Thanks all.. and sorry for the long read..
