  1. Hi all,

I'm a permanent resident, and submitted the N-400 form in April 2017. Then I had my biometrics appointment in May 2017. Since July my account has listed me as being scheduled for an interview.

In the meantime, my permanent resident card will expire in early 2019. I realize this is a year away, but I wondered what happens if I don't hear back about my citizenship in the next few months? Should I renew the green card in order to keep my status as a legal resident?

Many thanks for your thoughts on this.

  2. Hi all,

On July 19 I received an updated from USCIS - in my case status account it says "...we started the interview scheduling process for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization... We will send you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice."

Do you know how long it takes to get this notice in the mail? I haven't received a letter yet about when the interview will be, and wasn't sure how long it usually takes between receiving the the notification and actually getting the letter.

    Thank you!

  3. Hello all,

I went to my biometrics appointment a few weeks ago. However, when I log-in to MyUSCIS, the most recent status is "Fingerprint appointment was scheduled". Under that there is a section for "Next Steps" that says "We will prepare your case for officer review."

Is this pretty typical? Do you know if the status stays the same, even though my fingerprints/photographs were taken?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi everyone - my spouse and I sent the N-400 application packet to USCIS on April 15, and I've been using the US Postal Service certified number to track it.

Unfortunately the USPS site says the package is "In Transit, Delayed" - and it's been stuck with this status since April 19.

Has anyone else had issues with their applications being delayed or lost in the mail? How long did you wait? I'm wondering when I should print another copy of the application and send it by FedEx or UPS this time.

    Thank you!

  5. Hi all - I'm filling out the N-400 application for naturalization. For the name section, it says you should print "your name exactly as it appears on your Permanent Resident Card".

At the top of the card my name is "Last name, First name and middle initial" - but at the bottom, in the code section, it has my full name "Last name<<First name<Middle name".

Do I go with the middle initial, or the full name? Thanks!

  6. Hi everyone - I'm starting the naturalization process and had a question about names. Does USCIS use your current legal name (from Part 2, question 1, on the N-400 form) for your name once you are naturalized?

My green card currently has a middle name - which is not part of my legal name - and I'm ok with that middle name going away. So I just wanted to check that USCIS would use my current legal name, versus the name on my green card.

    Thank you!

  7. Hi all,

I have been working in the US for a few years now as a permanent resident.

Recently I applied to the school where I work, to study a graduate-level certificate program. As part of this, the university requires I go through World Education Services (http://www.wes.org/) to provide an evaluation of the degrees I studied for when in the United Kingdom.

Has anyone had any experience with World Education Services-WES, or any educational evaluation company like this? Thanks!

  8. Hi all,

My wife and I recently moved. I am a permanent resident, I've gone through the process to remove the conditions on my residency. My question is - what do I need to do as regards USCIS in order to update my address?

I think I need to change my address online through the AR-11 form, but do I also have to submit a form I-865 for my wife (who is my sponsor)?

    Many thanks in advance :)

  9. Hi all,

I am a permanent resident, and am looking to finally getting my Maryland driving license (we just bought our first car!) I have a United Kingdom driving license, but wasn't sure what the steps are for getting a license here - do I need to start from scratch as if I was a learner driver, or does my existing UK license help in getting a new MD one?

Any help or thoughts you all have would be greatly appreciated - many thanks :)

  10. Hi all,

We handed in my I-751 application in January 2008, so it has been over a year now. The USCIS website says that, as of November 2008, the processing timeframe for Vermont for I-751 applications is January 2008.

I'm a bit concerned that this is taking so long. If I need to go for an Infopass appointment to get the stamp in my passport, how far from my expiration date (April 2009) can I do this? In general, can you get Infopass appointments fairly quickly or is there a wait?

As ever, many thanks for your help :)

  11. Hi all, I have a few questions about my conditional permanent residence status. We filed the I-751 petition in January of last year. The last time the case (now CR189) was updated was October 2008.

Regarding the one-year extension of conditional residence - am I right in thinking this is one year from the expiry date of the permanent resident card (not one year from the date of submission of the I-751 petition)?

Also, if I need to extend my conditional residence, how and when should I apply for an extension?

    Thank you for your help!

  12. Hi all,

I have 2 questions, and would be most grateful for any help you could provide -

Regarding travel while waiting on the I-751 application: I filed my application in January of this year; I might have to travel back to the UK on short notice; would I be right in thinking that all I need is my UK passport, my expired permanent resident card, and the NOA which states that "... you are authorized employment and travel"?

About the NOA: this states that "your conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year." Does this mean one year from the expiry date on the permanent resident card, or one year from the NOA itself?

    Thank you all in advance

    :)

  13. Did you go online and summit the change of address?

You can do this now online. There are two forms online to change your address. I would not just leave it up to the 800 customer service workers to get it right.

When you do it online they will give you a conformation number.

    Thanks for your replies.

I did the AR-11 online for the general address change; but the instruction on the last letter I had from USCIS said to phone if you're updating an address on a pending application.

It was only after phoning USCIS that I found out that I could have changed my I-751/CRI189 online also.

My concern is: if I update my address online now, I am now well outside the 10-day period in which I was to notify USCIS of the change of address (I phoned back in August, right after we moved apartments).

Again, any thoughts/advice are appreciated! Thanks again.

  14. Hi all,

About 3 weeks ago I phoned USCIS to update my address (my wife and I moved apartments). I updated my address on my pending I-751 (or CRI89 as they are listing it).

They said I would receive a confirmation of this, but so far I haven't received anything in the mail. Does anyone know how long this typically takes?

I'm just a bit concerned as it is the "removing conditions" application part we're waiting on. My wife (as my sponsor) has already received confirmation of our change of address.

    Many thanks

    :)

  15. Hi all,

My wife and I just moved apartments, and I wanted to double-check what forms I should submit to USCIS. I think I need -

    - AR-11 - change of address online

    - I-865 - sponsor's change of address (for my spouse)

    - also, I applied to have the conditions on my permanent residency removed at the start of '08, and this is still pending - is there a separate form to update the address for this application?

Thank you all for your help with this! :)

  16. Hey all,

I am a US permanent resident, originally from the UK, and am waiting on a UK 5-year bond to mature.

Has anybody here had a similar stock market bond/saving account, and if so, what are the tax implications? Am I declaring this bond once it is paid to me, and do I pay taxes to both the US and the UK, or just one of the two?

I would greatly appreciate any help or comments you all may have! Thanks :)

  17. Hi all,

We filed the I-751 in January, and I went to the biometrics appointment on February 15.

However, since then we haven't heard anything. The application is at the Vermont Service Center, and the last time my application was touched was February 21 (just a week after biometrics).

Should we be concerned? What is the typical waiting period for the I-751 to be processed?

Thank you all again for your comments :)
