I don't understand why you would be asked this question by a regular worker and document intake. I am also curious about the black line across the green sticker. I live on the Canada border and cross frequently so I know when to tell these guys when to stuff it and when to answer. I fear my fiance will be intimidated by some prying busy body.
This is surprising, my wife and I were impressed that everything was so painless and everybody was courteous. If you take all the documents you need, you should be fine!

Hi A&B, my wife and step son are going to have interview on July 2, 2012. I would like to know are your fiance and son interviewed together or they are interviewed separately?
My stepdaughter had the interview today and passed. I noticed the packet did not have a black line through it, just the green sticker. My wife has a green card already so the interview was for my 10 year old stepdaughter but my wife accompanied her. The only words my stepdaughter said to the visa officer was hello and bye. My wife was asked all the questions and replied. I will post more about the document intake and interview.

Thx for the info! looks like we really need to schedule multiple days to get this medical exam done.
Sure, my wife, my daughter and I came about a week early to Guangzhou(probably overdid it a little). We didn't want to miss the interview because of the medical exam not being completed. My wife called and they said it takes 1 business day but I guess that assumes they have a TB test done ahead of time. If you leave 3 business days and go first thing in the morning, you should be fine. I don't know the difference for adults and children but for my daughter they verified she had the vaccinations (and gave here any she was missing) and did some other minor stuff (height, weight, heart rate, eye exams, blood pressure, etc.).

My daughter just got her done on Monday. She is only 10 years old and only needed one shot and a TB test. With the TB test, you get your skin pierced and have to come back 2 days later for them to view the results of the skin test. So, we were there Monday morning, came back Wednesday morning for the TB test results, and returned to pick up the medical exam results Wednesday at 3:30pm. I recommend doing it early in case something comes up!
As a FYI, the Guangzhou clinic opens at 7:30, we arrived at 7:45. They were still setting up so they were fully staffed until around 8:00am. I recommend coming in around 8:20 or so if you don't get there before 7:30 since that is when they finished the people that were there before 7:30 waiting for them to open. Not too many people showed up between 7:30 and 8:00. Good luck!

photos of child with mother, a photo timeline, from day 0 to recently.
IMO, that's the one thing missing (or you've listed it in another way)
I assume that yer gonna get some letter from the biological father (or have other documents about it) where he gives his daughter permission to immigrate to the USA (or relinquishes parental rights, however it's worded)
Good Luck !
Thanks, I noticed I made an error. The biological father has passed away so we have a certified and notarized death certificate. Also, my wife has a document giving her permission to bring the girl to the US. Looks like we are covered, so thanks!!!

Hot dog. My wife's visa came in the mail today. Just picked it up and returned home. Very pleased about that. Now everything about going really just waits on us. And even if we choose to do everything later, at least it's up to us, we're finally gaining more control in our lives, again.
Bad news, though, on the summary page (I don't know about inside the visa packet), they have the final address listed wrong. They have the 4th digit of my zip code wrong. I checked all the papers, before we sent them in, and the zip code was always written right. Do you think this might cause any problems during entry or anything like that?
And thank you, Darnell for all your help, specifically. And thanks to others who cheered for my support. Thank God most of this is over, finally.
e: and one more thing, apparently the summary page was torn from its staple to something inside the visa packet in the mail. When we got it, it was already torn. Hope even with these two things everything will be fine. What do you guys think?
Congrats on the visa receipt! I am glad everything is over for you.

I don't know the answers to your questions, but a head's up, in case you didn't already know:
I was speaking with a gentleman during my wife's interview in March, his step son (18 years) was in the interview, alone. However, he received the blue RFE paper, because he did not supply enough photographs of the man and his wife (the boy's mother) together. There were plenty of photos of the boy with each parent, but the officer felt there weren't enough of the two parents together.
Just wanted to let you know, so the same didn't happen to you. Sorry I can't help more, though. Good luck.
Thanks for the heads up, we have about 100 pictures of my wife and myself and another 60 with my wife, myself, and our daughter. Hopefully that is enough!

Hi,
A few questions regarding the interview.. I (US Citizen) am applying for my step-daughter and was wondering about the interview. My wife and I are both flying for the interview. My wife, our daughter, and I already know everything about each other (we are pretty close) but I was just wanted to know a few things so there are little or no surprises.
1. My stepdaughter is 10, so will my wife and/or I be allowed in the interview?
2. If they allow someone else to accompany our daughter, can we choose or will they choose?
3. Since my wife has already been in the US for a while, will they ask my wife the majority of the questions or our daughter?
Thanks!!

Sorry, that should be 1268 RMB with the vaccines, typo. You also need to bring your wife's passport and appointment letter. Just fyi. Not sure when our appointment will be now, they think my wife may have TB and the test will take 6-8 weeks, after which they'll schedule another appointment if the test comes back negative. We're a little bummed out.
Sorry to hear that, I hope your wife's TB test comes back OK and you keep your date.

So we've arrived in Guangzhou. Thought I'd post a few updates on things. Firstly, the clinic is located next to the construction site of the new consulate. It's less than a 10 minute cab ride from the current consulate (our ride cost us 17 RMB, we're staying right next to the current consulate). You need 5 photos for the health check and 900 RMB, or if your beneficiary doesn't have any vaccination records you need to pay 1286 RMB. The address given by the consulate is correct: 5/F East Tower, Poly Bld, No. 59 Huali Road, Zhujiang New City, Guangzhou Tel: (020) 81219500. If you're near the front of the line when they open at 7:30 you're supposed to be able to get your results the same day in the afternoon. My wife got flagged for more tests, so it looks like our appointment is going to be postponed.
Thanks for the info! Good luck in the interview!

Yeee Harrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ! YAR !
See? my cracked crystal ball still works.
LOL, yeah, I messed up by leaving out the supplement form, otherwise you would probably have been right on!

Woopee! Interview date of 6/12!!!!
-
uhm - breaking news?
after case complete, NOW (since the payment portal update from last year) folk can still sign into the portal.
don't worry about that, it's not a bad thing.
So, cool, that you know when the final review was complete. IMO, you'll know about the interview sometime between Wednesday and Friday, this week.
I'm hoping by NOW you can understand more about the timeticks I've posted, as you've lived through 80 percent of them, so far. I'm hoping they be more familar to you, as of today. Yes?
Hang in there, man. Yers is coming. Don't forget that the NVC TeleOperators are brain-dead. I learned this ages past, and wrote about it over at http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Electronic_Processing#Speedbumps_on_OPTING_IN_and_Converting_from_Paper_to_Electronic Unforunately, that 'brain-dead' tag carries for anything about EP cases headed to Guangzhou. It sucks, they will never be trained about it.
Good Luck !
LOL, I missed the memo of being able to login to the new portal after case is complete.
I read the timeticks, I understand the process now (lol, even though I am at the last step).
Thanks for the encouraging words. I freaked out a little bit when I heard interview would be in a few months. I'll wait until the end of the week before going crazy, lol. Thanks again.
-
No, not at all. When NVC has a light load (less casefiles) usually the two things can occur on same day or within 24 hours of each other.
NVC is open now, please to call, inquire for 'final review complete'
I Post the NVC EP timeticks for Guangzhou now
----
oh wait. Snap.
You've seen these before.
Please review http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/365986-electronic-processing-registration/page__view__findpost__p__5353491
and Good Luck !
(ps - please note my prediction shifted, as you got a checklist letter on the GUZ IV P3 supplemental )
Thanks Darnell. I didn't understand the timeticks that you posted, but I didn't ask. My fault. I can still sign into the payment portal, so that is a bad sign. I just called NVC and they said the final review was completed 5/11, the same day as the case closing. Yeah, according to your prediction, tomorrow would align with last Friday, so hopefully tomorrow is my lucky day.
-
Hey - Welcome to the brain-dead collection of NVC TeleOperators !!! They don't know anything about EP. And It Shows!
Hint Hint - there's a special, hidden queue for interview scheduling for Guangzhou and Cuidaded de Juarez. Ask when the final review is complete - you'll be scheduled within 3 to 5 days of that time tick.
[cough cough] a few days after 'final review complete' [cough cough]
Is case closed the same as 'final review complete'?

#######, called NVC hoping for interview date but operator told me that I missed the June interview dates and my interview date has still not been scheduled. Time to call DOS..
Geez, called the DOS and they said it will be 1-2 months before interview is scheduled? I HOPE they don't know what they are talking about...this is frustrating. I thought it was supposed to be scheduled in a few days after case being closed.

YESSS!!!!!!!!!! Just called NVC and my case was closed an hour ago. The only downside, I have to wait past the weekend for the interview date, but I'll take it! I am so anxious!!
-
Everything just went so quick this last week. I feel like me head is spinning.
Congrats! Hope my case is closed today! I called this morning, they still didn't review the additional form I emailed them.

Thanks for your replies. I was under the impression that the visa took a few days. I was hoping to return to chengdu with my daughter after the interview and leave with her back to the US in a few days. Wow she is going to be bummed.
Nevermind, I didn't ask my question clearly. It appears it takes 2-3 business days to issue the visa (according to Guangzhou website) and she has 6 months to enter the US. Is this 2-3 issuance pretty accurate?

Hi,
I have submitted all (hopefully) documents for NVC to close the case and had a few questions.
1. What is exactly done at the medical exam? Should my stepdaughter start getting any vaccinations or anything in the meantime? She lives in Chengdu so we will head over to Guangzhou a little early? Are the results from the medical exam immediate or does it take a few days?
2. Her address is on the Supplemental form so I assume she will be receiving all the documentation? Do they also send it out to the petitioner (me)?
3. If her interview is June 1, how long after will she be able to leave China and come home with me? I want to have a general idea before purchasing airline tickets and also knowing how much vacation to request from work.
Thanks in advance!!!
Thanks for the help everybody!

Just wanted to thank everybody that was a big help in answering my questions and providing guidance during the visa process! I arrived in the US last Friday with my stepdaughter. The only hiccup was the visa was issued on Monday after our Wednesday interview. We were hoping to get it on Friday so we stayed in Guangzhou. She is soo happy to be with her family. I also completed an embassy review to detail my experience.
THANKS AGAIN!
