  1. ok technically I'm not renewing, I'm getting a new passport in my married name so I can stop travelling with expensive papers. lol.

I'm renewing IN person IN Canada and picking it up IN person IN Canada.

Passport Canada's site makes it sound like I still have to pay the Canadian in the US fees...

Anyone know for sure? We're still a few months out from doing it, I just want to be prepared before I go, and you folks are usually more knowledgeable than anyone who answers a phone anywhere! Not to mention we also have to pay the fees for my step son's passport, and his health insurance, so it's going to be a whole bunch of bills at once so we really want to be prepared!

  2. Yes, I'm sure you will be fine if it's logged into the system before your card expires. Take deep breaths and try to relax (although I know it will be very hard!!) and everything should be ok. In fact, there should be a record that you sent it in the first time (even though they sent it back) and that should hopefully stop the clock from running down. If you find it too hard to wait, you might consider making an infopass appointment to talk to a human, face-to-face, about it.

They didn't generate a receipt number, so when I called they had nothing to look up. The paper they sent was specific saying I still had to have my stuff in ontime.

And I can't get an infopass appointment until after my card expires, I tried that already. And if I don't hear by Friday I'm a little scared to go into the USCIS building while out of status. Bit paranoid I know. lol

  3. His signature looks better on the copy I made and kept of the packet I sent today. He doesn't press hard.. but this is what the rejected one looks like

So I can see where their concern would lie. That's what I get for letting him use his own pen. It also doesn't help he signs his name like that in the first place. He could easily do just an S and then actually sign our last name, it only has 3 more letters than he already wrote! And since I did mine with a different pen, I press hard AND write neatly.. the two look so very different.

Ok I won't fret about it. They'll have it Monday afternoon, so hopefully, with some stroke of luck they get to it by Thursday. That's the part I will fret about, them getting to it in time. I know each time is different, but I will hold some hope that they got the fist packet on the 14th, and rejected it on the 15th and then sent the letter on the 16th.. so they got to it really quickly and might this time too.

  4. I didn't wait to see if they'd actually send the forms back, I sent a brand new one this morning.

They sent the form that says "please resubmit the enclosed form I-751 with the original signature of the petitioner with my packet attached, it just arrived in the mail.

I checked yesterday to make sure I didn't accidentally send the copies instead of the originals, and I didn't (no indents on the ones I kept). But hubby used a different pen to sign his than I did, and he writes with a different pressure (hands don't work properly). Admittedly it LOOKS like a copy, a crappy one at that. Before he left to go to work I made him sign back up copies but had him not date them (I guess I knew this was going to happen deep down?) and he used a different pen (an ink joy vs the bic stick pen from before)

So my what would you do is... I resent a brand new packet this morning with the letter they sent yesterday. I added an additional cover letter explaining what happened and that I didn't feel it was safe to wait to see if the packet was going to come back because of the time restriction. Would you send in this packet and hope they don't cash both checks, or hope that the one sent today (which is identical to this packet except I wrote my A number on everything just to be sure) will suffice. The one today doesn't have the ID# attached to it anywhere that the cover page that the returned packet does.

My plan is to call USCIS on Monday and see what they think, but I wanted to ask here first.

The packet sent today doesn't go to the address this form says to send it to :/ (different PO box).

  5. Due to finances we had to wait way too long to file for my ROC. I sent the papers in on the 8th, they got them on the 14th on the 16th they sent out a rejected for "not properly signed" and I got it yesterday. I quickly redid the packet and put it in the mail this morning with guaranteed delivery on Monday by 3pm. The ONLY thing we could find wrong on the whole packet was this:

    10258355_10152096068507029_6769108931889

Sorry it's upside down, my phone likes to be a pain somedays. My husband did this twice, in both spots he had to sign (we had an extra address section we had to attach). He wrote March, when he meant April. I didn't think anything of it and sent off the packet. I'm glad I had him sign extra copies of the papers with no dates before he left for work (he is away working right now) so I could get the packet re-done quickly. I spoke with Teir 2 yesterday but because there was no receipt number created, they couldn't help me (and were exceptionally rude). They did say that they do have cases of human error, so just send in a new packet.

But the reality is, they might not process it in time or they might reject it again. My card expires on Thursday.

At that point, what am I facing? I know I'll be set for removal. Does anyone have any experience with this? When? Where? How long? Will I be asked to leave or will I be arrested and shipped off? I know I will need to consult a lawyer if this happens, but my last experience with an immigration lawyer was horrible (we paid one to prepare our initial documents) and I'm trying to get an idea of what my options are before I start hunting for one (plus, it's Easter weekend). I guess pretty much I just want to have a general idea of how it works so I can make arrangements for our things, our pets and I will need time to explain to my step son why I'm leaving (as if the poor kid hasn't dealt with enough).

And does anyone know how long the ban is for this? I've read anywhere from 5 years to life.

  6. I could go for some vegetarian sushi as all the sushi places here have very limited options or you pay like $5 buck for a 6 piece maki roll.

I MISS TIM HORTON ICED CAPS.

I always miss Ice Caps until I actually have one or two.. then I miss the Frappe's from the US. LOL

  7. Thank you, I will update when I hear back from them. Until then I'm going to be on pins and needles.

Ironically today is my 3 year border crossing anniversary Though I was just coming for a vacation they grilled me in immigration for 2 hours because I brought medication with me (rx meds.. necessary ones.. go figure) until I was in tears. and today.. more tears. I'm not checking the mail box on the 18th of April ever again.

  8. a friend who does legal documents says the date is probably an issue, since it happened twice, on two forms BOTH on hubby's lines (not the sharpest crayon sometimes).

I followed the example and the wiki to fill it out, so I know I did it properly. Obviously confusing April for March the first week of the month was the issue. Next time I won't let him talk me into pushing the date to file out.

I found a signed, but not dated page, I wish I had found it last time. I'm going to have this at the post office by 9:30am tomorrow and I will pay what ever it takes to get it to California. Short of flying it there myself, this is pretty much all I can do.

  9. Your form I-751 or Form I-829 and it's supporting documents are attached. It is rejected for the consideration by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services for the following reason(s):

    It is not properly signed.

You must resubmit your form within the required filing period. Return this letter and all attached documents with your response.

but they didn't send the documents nor the form. just the letter.

The lawyer we used last time sucked, and we ended up requesting a partial refund.. so she's not going to help again. It's Easter weekend. I'm not going to find a lawyer working on immigration cases. And I live in the middle of nowhere, If I couldn't find a decent lawyer when I lived in the city, not going to find one here..

  10. Yes, I have it in front of me. The guys said because there's no receipt number he can't help me and promptly referred me to info pass but advised since my card expires Thursday that I would be in remove proceedings as of Friday.

He said one signature is required for this form as long as we prepared it our self. Two if we needed more room.

We did that. We have two pages that required to be signed (the extra address form and the main paper). Hubby also signed the cover letter.

The guy was a real jerk, and ended the call because I sounded emotional. Didn't even answer the phone with his name or ID so I don't know who I spoke to and they're closed for the day.

  11. But I can't find what is WRONG to start with, that's my problem. The only thing that could be the issue is my husband put the wrong month and then changed it on one page. So he marked a 4 over a 3.

and yes I'm still holding. I haven't moved from my desk because I plugged my phone in.

  12. First available date for an infopass is the 1st of May. This is not helping me at all.

changed my zip code.. still can't be seen until after my card expires. And I don't know if I want to be anywhere near the USCIS office if my card has expired.

  13. They didn't cash the check, I've been watching and wondering why since they've had the packet a bit now.

What do I schedule the info pass under? There doesn't seem to be anything applicable since they didn't give me a receipt number, just sent me a rejection notice (and didn't send me the packet back like the notice says they did).

  14. 50 minute wait for a next level officer. Which puts me past closing time I'll be surprised if I don't get hung up on.

What do I do if they don't help me today? Drive to Milwaukee Monday Morning and hope someone can help me?

  15. I don't have time to send an email and wait. I have 6 days for them to have it.

And I still can't get anyone on the freaking line!

Oh finally found an option to talk to someone! Only took 9 minutes
