6 months! Skype is a miracle.. Lol.. I trust him and he trusts me. It's not easy but if you both have the commitment, you will go through it well. I email him every time I go to bed and when I wake up. And he does the same thing. And sometimes, the nights are the hardest because it's when you feel so lonely. Sooo.. I call him and it's early in the morning for him!! Listening to his sleepy voice is the best. Lol..

8 months. Thank God for Skype. What I do notice is that since we have been apart for so long, we have spent time talking, lots of talking. So our comminication is even better and we have gotten to know each other very well. Good communication is one of the best keys for a successful marriage. That is the positive we are taking from this situation.

**** one judgemental post removed- OP came here for immigration advice, not life counselling ****
Always be honest with immigration, they will find out anyways. You can put a different mailing address from his physical (jail) address.

    UPDATE
The Argentine embassy in Kiev provided my fiancee with the name of a law firm in Argentina that they have worked with in the past. I sent them an email and received a message back that this can be handled within a few weeks. Hopefully. Just so everyone has this info, here's the scoop:
Fiancee goes to embassy, signs a proxy that is countersigned by a consular officer authorizing the attorney to act on her behalf; then gets fingerprinted and signs the fingerprint card; then makes copies of the info pages from her passport and the embassy certifies the copies.
These items are then transmitted to the attorney, either electronically if the embassy has the ability, or by courier.
The attorney then goes to the ministry of justice and obtains the police certificate; my understanding is that it is provided online. The materials are returned to my fiancee via FedEx or DHL. She goes online and prints the certificate.
The cost of this entire process is 290 Euros. Not bad.

Welcome to VJ. Relax. Everything will be fine.
    To answer your questions:
    1. No.
    2. No. You have to meet in person during 2 years prior to filing. There is no requirement where you have to meet and they don't care.
    3. Yes. He can take more to the interview if you feel that's not enough.

She wants to save some money by not going there, which is perfectly okay. No bungee jumping in SA required to get K1.

This may be an issue but people with big age differences have been successful. You just need to have plenty to prove your relationship.
The requirement is meeting within the 2 years preceding the petition. It does not matter where. The one meeting is more than enough to qualify you for the K1. Having multiple meetings is also good proof of your relationship but others are successful with only the first trip as proof. Make sure you have hotel receipts, airline boarding passes, pictures etc of your time together. They may ask why you didn't meet in South Africa and at that point your fiance can bring up your concerns...not a big deal (IMHO).
It sounds like you sent enough for the petition but when it comes to the interview I always advise people to take everything, no matter how insignificant you may think it is. Not many going through South Africa post here much but it is not as hard as some of the other consulates in Africa. Just be prepared, do your homework and you should be fine.
    Good luck!!
