I am originally from Mexico.
When I filed for citizenship I dropped my maternal last name. It was considered a name change.
In our case, because the oath was at a court house the name change and oath took place at the same time.
My US passport now has only one last name and then updated Social security with one last name as well.

Quick question -
I'm getting a passport for my son . He is 12, became citizen when we naturalized.
One of the requirements is :
An statement of your U.S. citizen parent detailing all periods and places of residence or physical presence in the United States and abroad before your birth
What is this supposed to look like? Is this a list of every place I (parent) have lived in since I was born?
Is city, country and year enough? Or do they want more detail?
And just out of curiosity why do they care?

is it necessary to put travel date, duration and countries to be visited on the passport form?. Because i am not going nowhere this year just want to have a passport.

Applied April 21st.
Received at processing center 4/24.
Check cashed: 4/25
Online status appeared on: 4/27
Passport mailed: 5/9
Passport received: 5/11
Documents mailed back: 5/10
Documents received: Not yet...my guess 5/13.
Online status never updated with any status other than receuipt (i.e. as mentioned before not very useful)

Well the first tip which is too late for you is: Make a copy of your application before sending it in.
I doubt they'll ask when you completed the application.
Top gotcha: tell me when you first arrived in the US and list you travel dates.

If your location does oaths in court it will be the federal court in your area. Google "federal court philadelphia naturalization". That should get you there if it is actually posted

Email and a text just arrived saying we're in line for the oath ceremony.
This is so odd. We were expecting an RFE.

Whoever updates the list next, can you turn me back to RED, the latest update made was not from the latest list.

Do two envelopes , each with its own check - that way if one application has problems the other one can move forward.
Then put both envelopes in one larger envelope together.
This is what we did and our applications stayed together the whole process

Does early fingerprinting hurry the process up? My fingerprint is schedule for 4/30. not sure if getting them early would mean early interview? field office is philadelphia.
No real evidence showing that's the case.

Quick question:
Getting ready to apply (oath is next week).
Can I use the Naturalization Certificate for both the Primary Evidence of U.S. Citizenship AND Identification ? Or do they want to see two separate documents?
My wife is changing her name at the oath so her driver's license won't match anymore. Would rather not have to replace her driver's license now.

I read somewhere that CT has several different cities for the oath (on a rotation), but that they all take place on Fridays. I assume most folks want to do the swearing-in as quickly as possible, but I foresee that we wouldn't be able to miss work on a Friday for a few weeks post-interview. Does Hartford let you choose (ask to postpone the oath) or do they just tell you when to show up, no choice in the matter?
First Friday of the Month: Hartford
Second Friday: New haven
Third Friday: Bridgeport.
Based on your interview date, my guess is your oath will be on 5/4 in Hartford. When you show up they already have your letter printed but as Darren and Crissy was saying I suppose you can try to ask for another day.

Hello everyone -
My wife and I had our interviews today in Hartford, CT. We were there about 3 hours total including wait time, interview and some more waiting after that.
Interview went well. I did go "over prepared" and took copies of ids, utility bills, 5 years of tax returns, 5 years of W-2s, Marriage certificate, etc.
Our case is based on the 5 year rule so I really did not expect to get asked for any documents. It turns out I was asked for my tax returns, my W-2s and my marriage certificate. Fortunately I had all those documents with me. Obvious suggestion, go well prepared, you never know.
In the end, it all worked out. After our interviews we were asked to wait for our oath letters. After about 45 mins we got our oath letters and will be attending the ceremony on April 20th. Really nice to be able to walk out of there with the oath letter.

I will be going to my interview next month. It seems like people are asked to bring their driver's license.
My full legal name is first name, middle name, father's last and mother's last as it is done in many Latin American countries.
My driver's license does not have my mother's last name. My passport and green card do.
Two choices. Leave it alone or get my driver's license to match exactly.

It is strange that we can use a NY field office but have to drive 2 hours to Hartford, CT for interview and probably again for oath. There are a number of offices in NY which are closer!
On the oath you may get lucky. Oath ceremonies:
First friday of the month in Hartford
Second Friday in New Haven
Third Friday in Bridgeport.
With your interview date you may get Bridgeport or New Haven

You can apply 90 days ahead of your 3 year annuversary. Do wait a week, time and time again, on this forum you find people that got their 'math' wrong and were rejected because they were off by a few datys. You have waited this long, 1 more week is not going to kill you.
