I have never heard of NS-5.

If she wants to visit, she needs a B visa, which she applies for entirely on her own.  There is no sponsorship or petition for that.

If she wants an immigrant visa, and your wife is a USC, she can petition your MIL for that.  Takes several years.

Thanks buddy. I was confused on the description for B visas in the DS-160 form online. My MIL doesn't speak any English, so we filled out the form and submitted it for her. No need for immigration as she's getting Italian permanent residency right now.

  2. Hi everyone. You guys were super helpful years ago when I went through the process of bringing my wife to the US before we got married.

She hasn't seen her family in many years and her mom wants to visit us this year.

I am stuck trying to figure out what visa to apply for. She doesn't want to become a permanent resident - she's in the process for that in Italy.

So I started the B2 visa application as tourism, and I don't see an option for purpose of the trip as either tourism or visiting immediate family... N8 is for a parent of a special immigrant, which I find as something related to a NATO employee or something. Definitely not our case here.

NS-5 is what many of our friends have done for their parents, but this is an immigrant visa application.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Does anyone have any support in this area?

Any speedy responses will be greatly appreciated. დიდი მადლობა

  3. Update on our status since I haven't had time to log onto visajourney in about a month.

My fiancée got her visa about 10 days ago, and will be here on Tuesday of this week. I'm just trying to fathom what this will be like. We talk and skype every day, but this isn't like dating someone for 3 years and going to movies or the park.

I know everything will be great. My family is very supportive of this whole process and cannot wait to meet her.

I just keep getting lost in thought. 2 days and I'll see my tkbili in person.

She's flying out in less than 30 hours from now.

Reviews of Chicago POE make it sound rather painless. I hope the wait isn't long. Well, it's been since March since we've applied, so what's another few hours?

Ha. I've already gone crazy waiting.

I'm very thankful for this site with all of the guides and helpful people.

I have saved the social security number information to my computer already.

We're planning on our wedding on January 19. It's too bad all of this is taking place during the holidays. But, at least we aren't fighting as many people since most marry during the warmer seasons.

  4. Thanks. I have to send the form and a copy of my 1040 to her. She will take that to the local TNT office, who will ship them to the embassy. TNT is like UPS in the states. She said the interview was short. The agent kept all of the paperwork, but didn't bother with our photos. When did you meet? How did he propose? When will you get married? She doesn't have to have another interview. So I guess we're approved as soon as my affidavit of support arrives...and gets to the right person. My fiancée said that there were other people at the embassy waiting room, and some got denied. She didn't know what kinds of visas they were applying for though.

This is just a small speed bump compared to the NOA1 to NOA2 wait. But gee whiz if I could have avoided it. I'm not really mad, just more like stubbed-my-toe-but-I-can-still-walk disappointed. I'm pretty calm. I still hope she can get here by Thanksgiving.

  5. I'm a little mad right now. I'm not sure if I should be mad at myself or not. The invitation for interview letter my fiancée got from the embassy stated that an I-864 is not required. So, I sent what I thought was sufficient proof of my income and ability to support her here.

    NOPE.

The interview went fine and was short. But then the consular agent handed her a 221G and basically walked away. It requests the I-864. I should have just sent it anyways in the first place. So, now I spent 2 hours last night filling it out and making sure everything is straight, double- and triple-checking it.

Now we get to wait longer.

The visa was so close, I could taste it.

  6. I guess I won't be calling my congressman after all:

On September 11, 2012, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

and to think, i just opened this site to calm me because this wait is so painful:

    http://www.rainymood.com

2 minutes later, I get an SMS that my case was updated and to check it online.

It would be so nice to dance in the rain right now. Ha

  7. I called on Monday and wound up getting a call center rep from Latin America. She took down all of my information (as if none of it is on the application), and I had to repeat my street address to her slowly 5 times. It's a common name of a tree!! Anyways, she told me that I should hear back in 15 days.

Then, Tuesday morning, I received an email just verifying that I called. The email says I should hear something within 30 days. (okayface.jpg)

I thank you for your encouagement. I wonder if it helps to have the packet really organized when you turn it in? Mine was over organized with tabs and dividers, etc. haha

My boss went through all of this a year and a half ago. I asked him about everything before I started mine, and he said he had his super organized with tabs and dividers. Plus he went through a lawyer. He also said that their whole process took 8 months until his wife (fiancée) entered USA.

I often wonder if the specific country makes a difference. Does this part of the process rely on the government from there and their speediness? If so, I'm probably in for a long wait. Georgia is like Mexico. They'll get around to it when they feel up to it. Ha!

  8. Thanks for the responses. This is all what I figured. My fiancée's neighbors have been asking her "what IF you don't get your visa?" Augh that's annoying. I keep telling her if she doesn't get a visa (which I know she will), to tell them that we'll just fly to the moon together.

I know we aren't even to the 5 month timeframe yet, but seeing these other applicants near my NOA1 date and after get approved is a little hard to take. I'm very patient. We went almost a year between last summer and just a few weeks ago from seeing each other in person. Now that I was just there to see her, I do want to be with her daily. But, I am able to wait a few short months until the visa is issued.

  9. I don't have anything to add. I'm just trying out this new signature.

Oh wait..yes I do. March filers are getting approved and I'm wishing you all the best of luck. This is getting exciting. More exciting than the NBA trade rumors. Who's with me? Anyone? No?

Well, I get to see chemi sikvaruli in a week because I'm flying there to see her. I really wish i could bring her back with me. Oh the timing of it all...

I'm sure we'll get the NOA2 right as soon as I come back home.
