Called NVC to check on status for my parent's immigration application.
I sent the RFE with "missing documents".
USPS tracking shows as delivered, but it has been 10 days since the delivery date, and NVC customer service told me that they haven't received/registered anything so far.
It should have been registered by this time, according to the rep. The rep could not help out or request a supervisor.. so I was left alone in the abyss...
I emailed NVC to check whether they can look this up. I sent it to Suite 100, so this cannot have been the issue.
Anyone that has a timeframe from NVC delivery date to "registered" status?

Let me ask you a question:
When you were waiting for your Oath letter, did they (Los Angeles) update your status to "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled", after that to "We scheduled your oath ceremony.."? Or, they just skip to "We scheduled your oath ceremony.." from "A interview was scheduled"

It currently says "Oath Ceremony Notice Was Mailed", but I am not sure if there was another message prior to that.

Had my interview today. Was called in about 30 minutes later than my appointment time. I was surprised that the IO had so many questions about our relationship and the proof that we provided; how do you pay your rent, what car does your wife drive, where do you get gas for your car, what's your mother/father in laws name, etc.
The English test was simple (had to read one sentence, and write a sentence). The civics questions were: Name a branch of the government, number of justices in supreme court, what does the judicial branch do, what does the President's cabinet do, if the President can no longer serve, who becomes President.
After that, the IO went through the N400 application, which was probably the easiest part of the interview. She confirmed the information (name, current address/previous address), current job/previous job, days outside of US, any previous marriages and children, and finally all the yes/no questions from the N400. She literally went thru each and every question from the form.
Had to sign two papers (N400), and she finally said: "Congratulations, you're approved".
She gave me the Naturalization Interview Results:
(X) You passed the tests of English U.S, history and government.
(X) Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval.

The VSC lag is about to create a chain reaction of frustration for me. I am changing my address at the end of next month and I sort of expect complications to arise. It seems that those who move with a pending application tend to run into issues receiving their documents in the mail even when their addresses were changed with USCIS. ARGH!!!
Don't worry about the address change. We changed our address less than two weeks ago, and last week I received the application approval - and this week they sent out the card.
During this time, they had also sent an approval letter to the new address. I was expecting the worst, but was positively surprised by USCIS' prompt change of our address.

There are numerous threads on VJ discussing this issue; DMV denies the extension of a driver's licence with pending I-751...
My case is as follows:
I receive the "Limited Term Extension" in Oct 2014, and my 2-year CR1 period is between Jan 2013 - Jan 2015, and my driver's license had the exact same expiration date as my Green Card, Jan 2015.
The main part of the DMV letter says the following: "Your limited term driver's license will expire soon [...] you must submit satisfactory proof that your presence in the US has been extended or reauthorized [...] Photocopy the front and back of your legal presence document and the page(s) of your passport, if applicable."
So, I copy my passport and the I-751 Receipt Notice (which includes the 1-year extension authorization from USCIS).
Fast forward to April 2015, I receive a letter from DMV. They returned all the documents that I sent them, including the signed Limited Term Extension and the photocopies of the passport and USCIS receipt.
They also sent a supplement letter, stating that I need to send them "Clear Copies of the front and back of your Permanent Resident Card (valid for 60 days or more).
Well, let's see now.... My PR card a.k.a Green Card has already expired (it expired in Jan 2015), thus the I-751 application to remove the conditions.
I cannot comprehend how to get out of this rabbit hole. If I send them a copy of my GC, it will not satisfy the requirement of being "valid for 60 days or more". I have't even received my I-751 approval!
I'm afraid if I go to DMV, they will take my DL or just give me the runaround treatment...

Did early Bio today, went at 10.30 am and was done by 11.30. They asked for the greencard, I didn't bring it, they let me do it with driver license alone but said they prefer to see greencard at every visit.
Well..you're supposed to always carry the GC with you

A GREAT update on our CR-1 process:
In some way, my visa was sitting at the post office for some time without my knowledge. I never received the first "Rekommenderad försändelse" paper slip from Posten to be able to pick it up, so I was surprised when I received a "Påminnelsebrev" (reminder letter) last week which I assumed/hoped would be the visa. And sure... the visa was issued in early December.
I am most likely leaving at the end of January 2013 (date unknown), POE will be LAX.

In Sweden, the equivalent documentation of a 'birth certificate' is a 'personbevis'.
Following is quoted from Skatteverket.se
"Om du behöver ett personbevis som du ska använda utomlands, t.ex. för att få visum, måste det vara stämplat och underskrivet av en handläggare på Skatteverket. Du kan alltså inte använda beställningstjänsten för att få ett sådant personbevis. Besök i stället ett servicekontor, ring eller skicka e-post till Skatteupplysningen."

Yes, CIEE is most likely hired by the company to arrange the J1 procedure and assess your credentials.
You simply have to do whatever it takes to show that your skills are relevant to the training program offered by the company.

My input was based on my own experience as a J1 visa holder and visa recipient at the US Embassy in Stockholm.
The US Consular Officer will look on your DS-2019 (and DS-7002) and perhaps require a CV or ask you about your educational background. They will assume that your qualification is matching the internship progam, which the agency (CIEE) should look into, and decide. So don't worry about that part of the process. Once again, if you've already been accepted by the agency and have the DS (Department of State) documents in hand, then you are good to go!
The US Embassy is not admitting you to the internship program, nor deciding your eligibility; they only issue your visa and make sure that you have a clear agenda upon finishing your internship program in the US.
The first step for a prospective nonimmigrant exchange visitor is to be accepted in an established exchange visitor program... [...] At the conclusion of their program, Exchange Visitor program participants are expected to return to their home countries to utilize the experience and skills they have acquired while in the U.S. Questions regarding an exchange program(s) should be directed to the program sponsor.

in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures

During the immigration process, your spouse will file the Affidavit of Support (I-864), where it states that if the sponsor's financials exceed the Federal Poverty Guidelines for the household, the sponsor do not need to submit additional assets to supplement the income. So first step is to figure out where you stand against this guideline.
If your spouse's income falls below the Federal Poverty Guideline, you may include your own assets (Swedish assets by filling out form I-864A and converting the currency to USD), if you meet the below requirements:
1. The intending immigrant has the same principal residence as the sponsor and the intending immigrant can establish that his or her income will continue from the same source, even after acquisition of lawful permanent residence; or
2. The intending immigrant is the sponsor’s spouse and the intending immigrant can show that his or her income will continue from the same source after acquisition of lawful permanent residence.
Hope that clarifies the requirements for the financial portion.
