  1. I registered to vote on the day I became a citizen, I received my voter registration card in the mail today. So you should be good as long as you received your naturalization certificate.

The benefit in registering is that you can actually vote in elections. You can’t vote without registration (at least in MD) Voting is also a responsibility of US citizens.

I am unsure about your last question.

  2. Hello,

I filed my application to TX Service Center on December 20th and it was received by noon next day. I sent them a check for $680 for N400 and biometrics fee. Later on I heard that as of 23rd USCIS is increasing filing fees for N400.

    So my questions are:

-How long does it usually take them to cash the check?

-If they don't look at my folder by tomorrow, will this mean my application will be rejected due to not sending enough $$s?

    Any information is greatly appreciated.

  3. Hello,

I have arrived to the US on a K-1 visa before the age of 26 and became a permanent resident in 2013. I am fixing to apply for citizenship. On N-400 form I am asked to provide my Selective Service Number under Part 12.

During my K-1 visa interview, I was asked to complete a form which would register me for selective service. I looked myself up on Selective Service website, however nothing is showing up.

What should I do next? Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Best

  4. Hello VJers.

I have a question. I filed for AOS along with the EAD and AP. I got my EAD and AP in October 2012. My AOS is still pending. Should I go ahead and file for an other EAD and waste $380 or should I wait and see what is going to happen.

Since it's not my fault it took us this long it's not fair to me getting ripped by USCIS AGAIN that's why I really don't want to file for another EAD. But here is the thing. I just got a nice job and I start on 9 Sept. I would hate to lose that job because of lack of documentation.

Is there anything I can do to expedite the process? I heard that info pass was not that helpful. I also heard some people talking about contacting to the senator. I have no idea how to do it..

Anything helpful is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!!!

  5. Hi VJ friends...

My husband and I recently (June 25) had his Greencard Interview appointment. Everything was fine, the officer said they had everything they needed and we should receive the greencard within the month. Almost 2 weeks later we got an RFE asking for a "Signed Vaccination Certificate" That was submitted at POE over a year ago so we only had a copy. We sent a copy and a letter explaining why we on't had a copy and that they had the original. Now we received ANOTHER RFE asking for the same thing and an attachment asking for us to submit the I-693--Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Certificate. They only want the vaccines page.

I called USCIS today and they told us they don't have any info for us and to just send it again or get an Info Pass appt.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Should we get an InfoPass appt?

Should we just send the copy again?

Should we just go to a civil surgeon in our state and get the form filled out AGAIN?

We appreciate any help and info with this issue...it is so frustrating to see our other friends go to their appointments after us and get their greencards after a week.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!!!

  6. Thank you for all your answers folks. I am really frustrated with this. I came here on a K1 visa which means we got approved for I129F in the first place... Why more investigation? They knew I was coming here to get married.

I can't apply for jobs I want to apply for. Yes I have EAD but I got turned down from two companies because they couldn't hire anyone with an EAD. Is that illegal what they did I don't know and I do not care. I blame USCIS for this. It's been 8 months. I didn't get a RFE, my case status didn't even move to initial review. I just don't understand what's going on... All I know is that it is not fair that we have to wait this long.

  7. Ok guys. It's time to get into the game.

It's been 8 months since we submitted our paperwork for AOS. Still no news from NBC. I got my EAD and AP but no greencard yet. And the reason I am posting this is I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel.

Couple weeks ago, I called USCIS they transferred me someone to talk to. (This guy is supposed to be a higher ranked officer or something I am not so sure) After being on hold for 45 minutes I finally hung up the phone without being able to talk to anyone.

Any ideas or suggestions on what I should do?

I remember applying for 129F October 2011. It's been a loooong time. Still struggling thru the paperwork :(

  8. Hello VJers!

I have a question about my trip to Turkey. We filed for AOS and I received my EAD combo card. I am going to Turkey in the beginning of February. I came to the US on J-1 visas and as I was leaving US, during check-in they always took my I-94. But now it is a different case. Should I keep my I-94 before I go to the airport or should I leave it on my passport so they can take it during check-in.

Also I am kind of nervous travelling with my EAD combo card. I am not worried about being admitted back in here however more worried about them letting me leave in Turkey :) What do you guys think? Will it be a mini chaos in Turkish customs?

Thank you for the replies in advance.

  9. Hello guys my I-765 got approved on 22nd of October and it came in today. I says that it can be used as AP as well. They apparently call it a Combo card. One thing I would like to ask about driver's license. Am I allowed to apply for one now or do I have to wait until I get my greencard? I know it depends on the state. I live in Maryland. Anyone who went through this process with an EAD trying to get a DL?

Thank you very much for your answers.

  10. Hello VJ family.

I got an approval message from USCIS saying that my I765 got approved and they'd be sending me the card shortly. This is good news but my I485 is still on acceptance. We filed in the beginning of August. If there's one thing that these whole K1 and AOS processes taught me, it is to be patient.

Any ideas why it's taking so long? I posted a similar topic and I got some rude answers like what are you trying to receive in such a short time blah blah as if I filed a week ago and didn't get an approval. They also told me that online system is unreliable but yesterday it worked. So how come an unreliable system works just fine?

Anyway just felt like venting. Good luck and hope my my I131 and I485 get approved soon.

  11. Hello..

We are I129F filer and in the process of adjusting status. I attached a copy of birth certificate which I'd gotten from Turkish Embassy in Washington DC. This form is called (Nufus Kayit Ornegi)

It literally took me 3 hours just to take this from this consulate... Good thing I wasn't in a hurry or anything. It costs $14. Make sure you have cash before you go there. They do not accept cards.

    I hope this was helpful.

    Good luck,

    Best Regards,

    Baris.

  12. Hello VJ family,

I am in the process of Adjustment of Status for K1. I filed I485, I765 and I131 all together on August 4th. I had my biometrics earlier this week. My question is; when I go check the status of my case on uscis.gov it still says acceptance for I485. Why is it taking so long to skip to the next step? I765 and I131 says "initial review"

Is this what happens to everyone or is my case being processed super slow?

    Any information is appreciated.

    Thank you.

  13. Ok, so this morning we went to SS Office in Frederick, MD to change my wife's name. Since we were there we asked about my status, (I am the beneficiary btw) I have a SSN thru my recent J1s. The lady in the SS office told that K1 is work authorized. She also told us that I can work without AOS until I-94 is not valid. We are going to start AOS soon and I was just wondering the lady at SS office is right. My wife says she had no idea what she was talking about. Anyone can help?
