  1. We had our interview Sept.19 in Kiev, Ukraine. All went well and we received the visa today Sept.24th. My wife has to get things ready and then we head for the USA. Hope to be home the first week of Oct. I need to thank my immigration attorney: Marc Ellis http://www.marcellislaw.com/. His office was a great help and Marc wrote a brief that was great and put them in their place. Our journey took over two years but our lives together has just begun.

We got to embassy around 9am for a 9:30 interview. Line of about twenty people and they only let five people in at one time. We were in security and in the main buliding at about 9:20. We got a number and took a seat. At 9:30 they called us to a window. I could see my 300 page stack of documents on the other side of the window. They ask my wife for some more documents and told us to have a seat. About five min. later they called us back up. I had not done a DS-260 for her eight year old son. The lady informed us this would have to be done for his visa.We sit back down and they called us up to a different window about twenty min. later. The man talked to my wife in Russian and told her she could get a visa but her son could not until they had the DS-260. He explained things to me in English and told us if we could get it done today they could issue the visas. He said he would need to speak to her son. I got a little angry over this. I explained her son was only eight years old and did not have to be there for the interview. The first interview they questioned her son. The man spoke Ukraineing and English and her son only spoke Russian. He would not let my wife interuped and called over another women to interuped. Things were not translated correctly. He told us if we could file the DS-260 and get back before 4pm we could get the visas today. We left the embassy and were back at the flat by 11am. I emailed NVC for the ID/invoice number needed to compleat the DS-260. It was 11am in Kive and they are 7 hours ahead of east coast time. This meant we had to wait until 2pm to call NVC.I do not have internatiol calling on my phone but we had WIFI in the flat and I have SKYPE on my phone. I called NVC right at 2pm(7am thier time) and got the recording they were not opened yet. I called back 5 min. later and was put in the Q. After about 10 min. a man answered the phone and was able to give us the ID/invoice number. We filled out the DS-260 on line and summitted it. We got ready and called a cab. We left the flat at 3pm and we were back over at the embassy at 3:15. At first they were not going to let me in but my wife wanted me with her and they let me in. We went in and they called us to a window. We showed them the invoice number and he looked it up on line. They had the DS-260 and had my wife take the oath for her son and were good. Nothing like cutting it close.

  4. USPS mail is sorted, routed and moved even when the front office is closed.

USPS bulk mail transits 365 days a year, Sunday or not.

USPS will deliver on a Sunday and/or holiday for an additional fee.

Now, if a package was dropped off at a local office after its last pickup of the day, then sure, it likely sat there until the the next regularly scheduled pickup.

I worked at the Post Office part time. My ex-wife has been working at the Post Office for 24 years. I drove a U.S. Mail truck for a contractor for 5 years. I worked seven days a week. The mail moves at night. According to the PO the package sit in the processing center for two days. Still waiting for word from USCIS.

  5. Or wait to the last minute to send?

When it comes to these kind of matters I leave plenty of time. DO understand that sometimes circumstances force to send paperwork very close to a deadline; but again, I don't play with fate, USPS, Fedex, DHL or anyone.

All it takes a storm, or a fire in a Fedex truck like last week to mess the best plans, when one is cutting it too close.

I did not wait to the last minute. I mailed on Saturday April 12th and was not due at USCIS until Wednesday the 16th. Should have been there in plenty on time. I didn't mail until the 12th because I was waiting for documents from lawyer.

  6. USPS SUCKS. Overnite Express mailed April 12 from Williamsburg Va. to St. Albans Vt. with a guarantee delivery of Monday April 14th by 3pm. Still not there. Package ONLY contained paper work for my wife's visa. Due April 16th. Should have drove it up myself. Big deal I get my money back. Because of the mess up this will cost me several thousands dollars United States Postal Service SUCKS.....

  8. An update. Finished my reply to USCIS about our marriage. With my lawyers brief and all my proof the packet was over 300 pages. Mailed Saturday USPS overnight with a deliver of 3pm Monday. I hope they have fun reading all the email, skype logs and letters from my family and her friends.

Now I wonder how long I have to wait for a reply.

  9. After a year I finally heard about our visa.

We were denied because they think we our in a sham marrige. I have until April 16th to sumit evidence to prove our marrige is legit. I have about 300 pictures from my June trip to Ukraine and 700 from my trip in Dec. and Jan. The problem is my wife was never married to her son's father. She is listed as a single mother on his birth certificate. Somehow the CO thinks the name on her paper work is her married name. Her birth certificate has the same name she uses now and it is the same as her passports. Her son has her last name. She had to replace her passport in 2006 and the CO thinks she did this to hide the fact she had been married(never married before me). My lawyer wants some kind of proof of the fathers name. Trying to prove a negitive. I hope some of you can help me find a way to get around this. Phil

  10. Called USCIS today to check on our I-130. I filed March 2012 Interview Nov. 2012. Put in AP. Sent back to USCIS for more processing. I called today and the answer I got was USCIS will look at our paper work when they have time............

I have written to my Senator and am a first name basic with my Congressman's aid. We have yet to find out why my wife was denied a visa. I am only giving only the bare facts. See my time line.

Any help would be appreciated. Phil

We were denied and have to repeat the process . I have retained a lawyer Marc Ellis, for the waiver, Might be another year. I am going for two weeks June 8 to the 22nd and spend the two weeks with her at her flat in Kherson. Phil

  12. I just reread your OP Knighta.

My gal says yes, you MUST go to the ZAGS in the city where she is registered as a resident. Sorry, that adds another couple days travel time.

When I got married Feb.2012 we married in Keiv. My wife lives in Kherson. Maybe it has changed in the last year and sometimes you can pay a little extra to make things happen(read bribe). We didn't have to pay extra. Get your lady to check it out.
