  1. In a state of shock right now - sent off packet three to the embassy in Sydney Tuesday 18th September, it arrived Wednesday 19th, and they embassy emailed me today (21st) to say our interview will be next Tuesday 25th September! Crazy fast! Now we have a crazy dash this weekend to book flights from Melbourne, hotels and arrange everything with work! Wish us luck!!!!!! :)

lucky thing! congratulations and good luck!

  2. Also when you have your medical are there lots of appointments available when you ring or should you ring wayyy in advance? Im in QLD. Also do you need to turn up to it with a vaccination record from your GP, and does your GP have on record ALL vaccinations in your life, ones that you got in high school and stuff? Because I got some vaccines in school but I'm not sure is the government automatically puts that data onto your doctors records or whatever. And if anyone can give me a list of all the vaccines you have to have completed for the medical, like which ones the US government requires you to have done to approve the medical would be good to know And do you pay the medical by card when you get to it?

Just regarding the above. As far as I know, you can not book that medical appointment until you have a case ID. I know some people say that they have had that opportunity down in Melbourne but havn't heard anythign differnet for the Brisbane Medical centre (please let me know if you find out otherwise).

With your vaccines, my suggestion would be to talk to your GP. No the government doesn't put it on your record, however, what you can do is a blood test to confirm what you may or may not need eventually. The list of vaccinations is at the following link. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1331.html

    Good luck

  3. Pretty much any hotel in Sydney CBD is suitable. The city itself is very easy to navigate. If you want specifics, I would suggest going on Wotif etc etc and looking on google maps to see what is more suitable for you?

  4. Thanks! I've just sent them an email, hopefully I'll hear back from the soon! One to sydneyiv@state.gov and one to support-australia@ustraveldocs.com Got both those addresses from the Consulate website. The second address I received an email back straight away with a link to cgifederal.secure.force.com and a password to create an account where I can create a profile and login and track the status of a Visa application.

    Hey,

I read somewhere that you can only contact them for visa immigration issues Friday 9-12. I dont know wether this is correct but I do recall reading it on a forum here.

    Good Luck!

  5. How about contacting the colleges you might be applying to? You already know what area/city you would live when arriving, unless of course you both are open to move after your arrival to a different are, in which case, hopefully you have some idea of the possible areas.

Once you know the area/city, find out what schools are there and then contact them directly. Make sure that when you contact them, they do understand you will not be enrolling as international student so you know what the requirements are. Also, many times, colleges consider the student as 'out of state' for tuition purposes until you have 1 year residence in the state you are living. Check what their policies are for green card holders in terms of tuition and resident status. You might also want to check what kind of financial aid they have (outside the government loans). Also check what is the application period, most accept new students for Fall and Spring terms, some only in the Fall. I'm assuming you are thinking of a credited college; that said, there are probably many private colleges that are not credited (yet provide a degree that leads to licensing in the state you will be); depending on your long term goals, you need to enroll in the "correct" type of college. Noncredited colleges are much more easier to enroll, but quality varies quite a bit IMHO.

If some of the requirements involve standardize tests (SAT for example), you can start preparing already so you can take the test asap.

Before I forget, you need to check with the prospective colleges whether they would take your past coursework transcripts as is and validate everything or what is their process. If you have already started your degree, there is always the possibility of transferring credits, you want to check on that too.

    Good luck!

Thankyou for that! I guess I have to do some research and start contacting the universities.

  6. Hi All,

I may be getting a little ahead of myself here but I thought I would put this out there.

I am planning on studying and or starting/ finishng my Bachelor of Nursing Science degree when I move over to USA.

How do I go about applying for universities. I know that yes, you have to apply directly to them, but do I have to sit a test of some sort in order to provide them with a ranking? (We do things a lot differently in Australia)

Has anyone been through this process? Give me any tips on timelines and what to do? What to study if I have to take a test?

  7. Hi, just wondering if someone can help me out with this! I called up Victoria Police about making an appointment for fingerprinting, and... I am so confused now. First of all, she said that the city appointments were all booked out until next January! The closest appointment I could get was for October 17th, in their regional office at Seymour - which I think is about a 90 minute drive from Melbourne. Then she said that she wasn't sure what form I needed to get, and she told me that I didn't need the fingerprinting that costs around $150, which was for 'security people', but that my fingerprinting check would be free. Which seems contradictory to some of the posts of other people I've read here. She also said that she thought I should be dealing with AFP (Australian Federal Police) instead of Victoria Police. Well I'm pretty sure I just followed the links that the embassy website gave for getting the police check things done, and ended up at the Victoria Police site.

I think I'm just confused, anyway, so if anyone has some advice/clarification, I'd appreciate it so much.

Oh, and I remember people mentioning that you can expedite the police check process. How do you do that? I asked if she could give me an earlier appointment but she just said n

    Riss

funnily enough, i just did my fingerprinting today, however, i'm in queensland. You NEED the fingerprinting done. AFP only deals with certain states (I think ACT), or they will refer you onto your state police. This lady is clearly misinformed. Try calling a different police station for clarification.

  8. OK thanks. Do you know how long in advance these must be booked?

Also, does anyone know if you get the visa in your hand the day of the interview? if you are approved of course.

    Hey Mate,

From what I've read, some doctors practises wont allow you to book the physical until you have the interview date. Once done,it is valid for a year.

I've heard here that people are verbally told ove their approval, however, are also advised that they will receive the paperwork within a possible two week period. You may be lucky to have it once you leave the consulate.

  9. You can apply after you get married and get all of your documents together. Once you apply, should something unfortunate happen before you receive your EAD/AP (combo card issued now) then you can schedule an info pass with your local USCIS office and they should be able to help you.

Can I ask, do you have to have exact travel dates in order to apply for this?

  10. Advance Parole is applied with AOS and takes about 3 months to be approved. Yes, they can expedite it for something serious like what you describe above. I would plan on marrying fairly soon after entry and have the AOS paperwork ready to go to send out the day after your marriage. Then you request expedite (I suppose you could also request it with the initial submission).

And, sorry to hear of the situation, best wishes.

    Thankyou for your speedy reply!

  11. Hi All,

Just a general question regarding Advanced Parole. How quickly do they process this and how far in advance do they suggest you apply for this? Is there any way to expediate?

I know It's a little early for me to address Advanced Parole yet as we havn't even received my K1 Visa.

The reason I'm asking is because last Friday my father was diagonsed with terminal cancer and the doctors are unsure as to how long he will be around. He's absolutely adamant I still move over to USA and get married as he wants to be able to give me away at my wedding.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

  12. How are you going to get the RFE if he is out of the country? The RFE will be mailed to US address??

Don't forget the military has a USCIS hotline at their disposal.!

His uncle is an immigration lawyer (very handy) and we have everything sent c/- his immigration practice. He just emailed us and said that in our case it may pretain to either financials or birth credentials.

  13. Well, I misunderstood PCC to Police Clearance Certificate instead of passport clearance certificate. Now the interview is scheduled on 16th August and today i came to know when i went to submit document at VFS that I need Passport Clearance Certificate. I am from Ahmedabad. The government offices are closed due to Holiday this week. There is no way I can get it by my interview.

I will appreciate your help. Just lost and do not know what to do next. I am trying to get an appointment but it is not available. How does this affect me? will it affect my visa approval? What if i submit it after my interview? How long will that delay the process?

Contact the consulate and explain your situation. You may find that your interview date will need to be pushed back.

  14. We got rfe in June . They sent another form of I-30 and another one was G something, biometric form . At first we worried that they would ask about sworn affidavit cuz we didn't send it. After a month later, we got our NOA 2.

Congratulations on yoru NOA2. I hope mine is as easy to fix as yours :)

  15. hi fellow vj member! I had an rfe too asking me to submit evidences of meeting in person and proof that we have met for the last 2 yes. I sent pictures only and I realized that after a month. I was expecting the rfe already. atvleast you know that they looked into ur case already, so its kinda a blessing in disguise. just wait for your hard copy. and dont forget to include the blue form as soon as you reply to the rfe

Thankyou so much! I've included everything possible that I could think off! We knew pretty early on what we wanted out of the relationship and the organisation freak in me decided to look up what the requirements were to immigrate. So I saved all the tickets, boarding passes, photos receipts I could get my hands on! We shall see what it is. Like I said, I'm not too worried, just interested to hear what everyone else's experiences are.
