When i got my J1 Visa it was about 2 days.
Id allow 5 days unless they inform you otherwise at the embassy

To be fair i wouldn't personally bother with lawyers.
The process is really straight forward if you follow the guide on Visa Journey.
Lawyers will add 2-3k onto the cost so not really worth it.
1800 USD is 1200 GBP

Hi Pilot
Me and my fiancé are in a similar position although its looking like 18 months until our wedding. 2-3 Years is quite some time but everyone is different. Remember you won't need to file for at least 16months given your time till marriage so prices may change by then
With regards to your question, the medical is around 100 GBP i think so roughly 150 USD.
So that equates to
K1 Petition - 340 USD
K1 Application - 240 USD
D-156 - Included in cost of K1 Application
Medical - 150 USD
Total K1 - 730 USD Approx
AOS
I-485 - 985 USD
Biometrics - 85 USD
EAD and AP - Free when filed with AOS
Total AOS Cost Estimates - 1070 USD
Total Costs to Green Card - 1800 USD Approx
Hope this Helps
And Welcome to Visa Journey

This is exactly the reason I am filing the K1 as well. And I think if you file the earliest one year from when you come here you should be ok. Keep in mind that the K-1 visa is valid for 6 months and then you have another 90 days after entry to the US to get married. My fiancee and I are not making any concrete plans until she has the visa in hand.
Yeah me and Amber are just going to decide where we want our wedding to be and then just book it all once the visa is sorted. Even if it means using the full six months of validity at least it makes sense that way.
Thank you all for your help and I wish you all the best of luck on your journeys.

If you're willing to wait so long, why not get married in the UK or US, then you or he go back home, and apply for a CR1? It's cheaper and you won't have to AOS and go through two interviews like for a K-1.
We want to go through the K1 route as once were married we want to be together rather than still being apart. My fiancé has a daughter and that is the main reason we want to take the K1 route so that we can be a family once married.

Actually looking at things again you do need an afadavit of support

Hi
I'm in a similar position with regards to deciding on which visa and when to get married.
As far as I can tell from what I have read on here an on the uscis website the K3 visa is no longer issued.
You would either have to travel over on a K1 to get married in the US or apply for a CR-1 after getting married to move over there.
With regards to the income question I think she has to show pay slips etc so would only be able to provide that evidence after starting her contract.
Your K1 as far as I know doesnt require and afadavit of support a it counts as a non immigrant visa.
When you apply to adjust status that is when you need the afadavit.

Oh, 2014, I read 2013 (who has a 2-year engagement? ). If you are getting married in 2014 (nearly two years away) then I agree with Evylin, March 2013 is good.
We're having a nearly 2 year engagement as we both want to be on a sound financial footing for when we get married.
It's looking like March 2013 will be the best time to apply.
-
Apply TODAY. You might make it for your March wedding if you apply now. There are no guarantees, however.
Surely its too early for March 2014

Do not make any concrete plans until the visa is in your hand. The initial process is approximately 5-6 months but it could be longer. Then there are further stages which can also involve delays. Many people here, including me , have an official wedding at the courthouse to satisfy the K-1 requirements of marrying within 90 days and then arrange a non-legal wedding ceremony for a later date once they have settled in and sent off all the AOS paperwork.
The initial part is 5-6 months, then there are additional months after. This is provided there are no delays like an RFE etc.
Brilliant thanks for your help.
So if we appy at Christmas 2012 that should be around the right time?

Heya
Me and my fiancé are planning our wedding for March 2014.
We are wondering when we should begin our visa application.
I am planning on flying out 3 weeks before the wedding to arrange our house and the final wedding plans.
Can anyone advise on when we should start our application.
Baring in mind if the visa came through before sept 2013 it would expire before I plan on entry into the US!
Thanks
Rich

Well an update for you folks!!
SHE SAID YES AN WE ARR NOW ENGAGED.
Think we are planning a spring wedding on Tybee Isand GA.
Guess now the hard work begins.
We are probably going down the CR1 route as it will allow me to work immediately on entry.

I would also add to start collecting evidence of your relationship. Keep receipts for anything you buy for her (your wedding ring, flowers you sent, etc). Print chat logs and phone records. Take lots of pics during your time together (which of course, every couple does anyway). Open a bank account together while you are here (and other things listed as evidence of a bonifide marriage in the I-130 instructions).
Others gave great advice...it's really not very difficult, just follow directions, search or ask questions, and be happy you found VJ, it's really a great help!
Thanks for the advice.
Do you know how we can print out Skype chat history?

Hello everyone
Thanks for your help so far, I collected the ring today from the jewellers and fly on Friday. The moment I get chance I will let you all know the outcome.
Does anyone know if I need to declare the ring to customs? Will there be duty payable on it?
I hope that you can help

Hello
I am currently dating a southern sweetheart from south Carolina and plan on asking her to marry me when I visit in April.
So it seems we are about to start our journey to a future together in the states.
Can anyone give any advice on the process.
We have talked a lot about marriage and plan on getting married in the UK so it looks like the CR 1 visa is the best option but please tell me if there is a faster option.
Any advice on the application process would be welcome.
wil file soon (129F) need your advice

How many times have you met since Aug 10?
From what you have said your only meet was in a mall in Aug10 which may not be enough.
