  1. Yea, and thank you! Back to you! I'm sure you'll do well in BCT.

They offered citizenship when graduating Bootcamp and since they do all the paperwork and I don't have to pay for it, yea, I'm going for it, it saves us $$ and dealing with USCIS again.

    Are you?

well thanks, and yeah same here, my recruiter warned me though that not everyone gains their citizenship in boot camp sometimes it happens in AIT or at your first duty station. I think the longest he said he's seen it take is about 6 months after getting to the first duty station though so Either way its still faster and cheaper and a wonderful service that they offer to the troops!

  2. I don't want to be hurtful in any way but if I understand correctly your EX-husband is listed as the child's father on the birth certificate even though he is not? Does this mean you had the child with another man? If yes, then this seems like evidence that would hurt your application since the perception could be that you were not in a bona fide relationship with your husband if after being married for such a short time you were already having a relationship with someone else. Again, I'm not intending to be hurtful in any way and if I'm missing something here I apologize but you are asking for help and I'm trying to assist based on what I can see. I would think the birth certificate could play one of two roles:

    1. It shows that you truly believed your relationship with your ex-husband to be the real deal and you were planning to raise a child together even though it wasn't his?

    2. The question of the child's parentage comes up and you are called out based on it. But I don't see how they could know that. And like you said, you were only pregnant at the time of application and did not yet have in-hand your child's birth certificate.

I would just continue on with what you have and deal with any further requests one at at time as they come up. Good luck!

oh I understand completely. I've become pretty thick skinned when it comes down to explaining the situation with my son..as you can imagine..

due to Louisiana state law my ex husband had to be listed as the legal father on my sons birth certificate because we had to be divorced for a period of 1 year in order for the biological father to submit a paternity affidavit to have it changed since my husband was out of state at the time of birth (even though we had been legally separated for a year) and then my divorce took 2 years to go through because my ex husband refused to disclose his location so I currently have 300 and 50 some days until I can legal fix the issue.. I wasn't with my ex husband when I became pregnant nor when the child was born and he has no connections or rights over the child but the state forced his name on the birth certificate which was my only worry as legally the government think he is the father even though it is evident to everybody that he is not.. I know uscis will look harder upon me for having a child with someone else while removing my conditions but I didn't want to be penalized for having what is technically "inaccurate" paper work due to state regulation.

  3. Hey everyone, i am currently a conditional permanent resident and i am enlisting in the US Army, i was just wondering if there are any other a) female soldiers here who could give me any insight into being a female in the military? (i was an army spouse for 3 years and i am currently engaged to a military vet so I've spent a lot of time with soldiers but had no experience being one) and b) CPRs who have tried to join the us military and gained citizenship, what kind of obstacles did you come across and how smooth was the enlistment process?

thanks! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

  4. That's so weird... I've never heard of that. I've heard you need to have at least 180 days left but not 60. But again that's what i know from the Marines.

My recruiter told me they can enlist me right now but then, they wont ship me out to bootcamp until I get the GC. So i'm just waiting for my biometrics letter to continue with the process.

Yeah I think every branch is slightly different, the Marines is a good way to go! Kudos to you.. I don't think I would want to go through marine boot camp..im dreading BCT enough as it is! I hope you get your green card soon! Are you shooting straight for citizenship?

  5. I received a RFE but it was only asking for my divorce papers not additional evidence, I debated submitting it then but they didn't ask for it so in the end I just followed the request to the letter. My only worry is getting to my interview and having to explain why I didn't tell them my ex husband is on my sons birth certificate since he isn't the father or if I would be better to submit it before hand so it looks like I'm not trying to hide things from them

  6. I am currently in the process of enlisting and my recruiter told me last week that it has been put down in order to join the US Army (I can't speak for any other branch) you can join as a CPR or a LPR only if you have 60 days left on your residency before your ship date and a divorce will not effect your eligibility, I don't know if this is being posted too late but I do hope it helps someone :)

  7. I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the "major family changes" section so if this isn't a good place I apologize!

but my question is.. When I filed my I751 I was pregnant therefore couldn't list any children on the form, my son is now 9 months old and we received his ssn and birth certificate a month or so ago, do I need to notify USCIS of this? (I know most people will tell me to send it in because it will help my case but I believe it will only complicate it due my circumstances) I have no problem submitting it if I have to but if I can avoid bringing that into my I751 case I would like to as it really has minimal connection to the marriage I entered with my ex husband and I was under the impression thats what uscis are primarily interested in.

hope your all having a wonderful day :)

  8. I've searched the forum and this feels like a long shot but has anyone enlisted in the US military with their GCSEs (I'm from the UK) I've lost all my certificates and my recruiter doesn't want me to apply for new ones because it is so expensive but he said he won't know if they will be accepted until I can submit them to him. If they will accept them I have no problem paying for copies because I really don't want to have to take my GED and hold the process off any longer but I also don't want to pay outrageous prices for documents I can't use. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  9. I wasn't sure where to post this (I admit it has been a while since I have visited here) I didn't want to post in the military section since I am no longer a military spouse and not yet currently AD so please accept my apologies if this question would be better suited there.

    Anyway.. My question:

I came to the USA with a two year conditional green card based on marriage however my husband and I parted our ways 2 years ago. I have since filed to remove conditions on my own however my extension expires in April 2015 (when I spoke to a rep on the military hotline he said im still looking at at least 6 months for processing which I don't understand since my extension expires in 3 months??)

I have recently spoke to my army recruiter and he said I am good to go once all my paperwork is done, however he wants me to try and obtain a 6 month extension on my conditional residency as regulation has changed and I must have at least 60 days remaining on my residency starting from the date they ship me to bct in order to be eligible to enlist, so I called the USCIS military hotline and they advised me to make an infopass appointment at my local office which I am going to do next week. My question is has anyone ever had experience in this area before? Are extensions of extensions granted for military service or any reason for that matter? What exactly would I need to take to my appointment to get the extension? And if I do get the extension approved my recruiter told me I can go straight for citizenship after completing bct and ait, will I still have to remove conditions (as that would obviously be difficult during basic training) or would they waiver that step for me?

thank you in advance, I hope you all have a wonderful day!

  10. The problem is, a controlling person ALSO is very reluctant to allow a spouse to have access to financials. They control what a spouse can and cannot do. When you give someone money, they can do what they want.

The OP should try to get as much evidence as possible but also prepare for if that evidence isn't available. A military person does receive a BAH for being married. If the OP can get evidence of that, of places they've lived off base because they were married and other evidence to show they shared a home (photocopy of his driver's license beside hers?) and a life together, because financial information may be harder to come by.

You have pretty much hit the nail on the head with my main issue here.

I have evidence that I was on the lease for our on post house and I am also still on his DEERS and have my Tricare ect. Military benefits wise we pretty much followed everything by the book (IDs Healthcare BAH etc,) But I do worry that wont be enough as the only other things we have financially are joint tax returns (I believe we have 2) and vets bills named to both of us with both our credit card receipts on them (separate bank accounts). I do have an account at a military only bank but they are all addressed to my new apartment as he wouldn't let me open the account when we were together (im unsure on weather that would hurt of help my case) Just short of that all I can provide are photographs of family trips (to mine and his families) and us living together and unit functions etc. But I do worry this will not be enough... But again everyone thanks for the input! Its been very helpful & informative.. Just got to keep my head up high!

I do like the idea about getting my husband to write an affidavit it is something I will have to speak to him about soon so thank you for that suggestion also!

  11. Thank you everyone for the replies! I do not wish to go down the road of using the abuse to my advantage as I believe I would have a stronger case trying to prove a valid marriage than an abusive one and don't really want to drag my soon to be ex husbands career down the toilet either because he would make my life a living hell..

From what I can see here from the replies my best bet is to remove my conditions alone and submit as much evidence as possible of a legit marriage? and if all else fails I could always consult an attorney later on down the road right?

Thank you so much for keeping the replies professional and respectable! I was a little worried about posting because I know how easy and quick people can be to judge and go off topic! Many many thanks everyone!

  12. Hey everyone! I was on this forum for a long time and I hoped the next time I had to use it would be to remove my conditions next April with my husband.. however things don’t always work out to plan…

So I have a few questions and I was wondering if anyone had any input

    Firstly :

Even though we had a legitimate marriage, my husband was abusive and controlling (however I have no proof other than a no contact order from his unit) and did not allow me to be on any of the bills, statements or bank accounts, etc. Will this affect my ability to prove our relationship when i remove my conditions because I’m sure that’s what they look at the most, and I would hate to be penalized for not worrying at the time about how the relationship would look to immigration because I knew it was real and we would have no issues.

    Also:

If either of us were to re marry before the conditions were removed and I received (if I receive) my 10 year green card will this have negative connotations on my case?

& finally what exactly do I need to disclose and what do I not need to disclose to USCIS (i.e do I tell them we are getting a divorce, that I have moved, etc)

Any input would be greatly appreciated as I have found a lot of cases like mine (I won’t go into detail.. it’s a lot more complicated that I’m letting on here which is probably why im asking generic questions that have been answered a million times and i do apologies .. my head is just all scrambled right now) and everyone advises a lawyer which I just can’t afford.

Thank you all in advance for any help!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

  13. Cool! Do you plan to work as a paralegal while studying? :)

I'm in medicine. Will definitely consider a non-medical path if needed for our relationship. Military life is not an ordinary married life :luv:

Oh yes defiantly! There aren't really any places to work around here but I'm going to try and find some legal transcription jobs online until we move to Georgia!

Medical is an awesome field when your married to the military lol! I know a LOT of wives who work in phlebotomy, nursing, medical transcription etc and had no trouble getting work... even around here! :)

  14. I've heard of that. :) i'm not in school, but it is one of my options (to possibly take a 2 year related course) if my other plan doesn't pan out.

How many years for immigration law?

That's cool :) what area are you interested in?

And immigration law is a complicated one, unfortunately you can't just go to community college and say "I want to be an immigration lawyer" :( lol!! I wish.. its 4 years to get your bachelor's degree in whatever you choose and then 3 or so at law school and unfortunately most of what you learn over that period is nothing immigration related haha I'm looking at about a 10 year timeline to get certified to do what I want but I'm studying to become a paralegal in the meantime lol so busy busy busy :)

  15. ok. thank you so much for the help guys. does any of you know the number for the military help line? he wants to call them just to be sure. :)

    1-877-CIS-4MIL (1-877-247-4645)

They are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (CST), excluding federal holidays.

After hours they will give you an email address but i always found it easier to deal with a real person over the phone if you can make the hours :)

  16. Thank you so much! :)

How's school? You'll be good at it, fo sure

    Your welcome :)

Its looong and tedious haha! Im studying business law & business math at the moment, i dont get to start any immigration law untill ive completed a year and a half of law school *sigh* im just waiting to get to the good stuff haha! Are you in school? If your husband is under a certian rank then you can apply for up to a $4000 grant through mycaa.. definatly worth looking into if you havent heard of it :)

  17. I think Khal_Drogo summed it up pretty well. My husband is Army not Marines but we gave them his LES and his Tax papers and we also had an expedite letter from his Batallion Commander we had submitted which we used as the letter for "proof of employment" too. I also took photocopies of our military IDs aswell. I think the only thing they really looked at when i went to the Embassy was the tax documents (but like previously stated Embassys have different rules and regs so keep up to check on your personal one)

  18. Im here! lol! ivyanddan i found that memorandum for you and sent you a bunch of info privatly, i hope you find it usefull, im sorry about how long it is haha!

Hows everyone doing here?? Ive been away for a while because of school but my removal of conditions is coming up soon so i thought i would come back and check this old place out :) haha!

  19. My husband received a signed letter from his Company Commander when we applied for my visa which requested an expedite due to the mission he is currently on. We sent it to both USCIS and the NVC but I was told it was pointless to send it to the Embassy (but I believe I did anyway because well..what harm could it do?) Since we sent it to USCIS about a week before my petition got approved through them I'm not sure if it was just coincidence it was approved around the same time or if it actually helped but it defiantly sped up ur process with the NVC. Best of luck! If you need any help please feel free to message me as I still have all my original visa packets! :)
