  1. Hello everyone,

I finally got all the paperwork together (hopefully) and will be sending it off shortly.

Since I started the process my mailing address had changed.

Is there a change of mailing address form I can include in the NVC packet? Is it a good idea to include such a form if it exists?

If not, whats the best way to change my mailing address so any future NVC corespondents don't get lost or delayed getting to me?

Much thanks in your help entering the home stretch

  2. Hi everyone,

I work overseas and will be taking a job in the UAE next month. My wife is currently in the AoS stage and should get back a notice in a few weeks of (hopefully) case closed and move on to interview stage. Which in Vietnam is taking 4 to 5 months currently.

My wife will be joining me in the UAE. So my question is:

    1. can she do the medical exam and get her interview done in the UAE?

    2. If not, is it possible to delay the medical exam and interview for 3-4 months, until my contract is up and we can return to Vietnam? Is there a time limit to complete the interview and medical exam after the AoS is approved?

    3. Once the visa is approved (IR-1) how long will she have to enter the U.S.?

We're trying to time everything so I can fly back with her after my contract is up February 2017.

Thanks again to everyone for your continued help.

  3. On the USCIS website it says:

    • If the person being sponsored is a spouse, or son/daughter (who is 18 years or older) of a U.S. citizen: The minimum cash value of assets must be three times the difference between the sponsor’s household income and 125% of the federal poverty guide line for the household.

I'm wondering if that means the person needs to be employed or can they unemployed and have 3 times the assets? For example in my case, all my income comes from a job overseas, but we are both close to having 3x the amount needed. For our household size of 3 people ($25,112).

So, if I have at least $75,336 ($25,112 x 3) in assets that would qualify me to sponsor her alone even if I didn't have a job? Or would I need to show some form of employment in the U.S.?

    Thanks again everyone

  4. My sponsor for my wife will be a married couple (she is a relative of mine).

They make enough to meet the income requirements.

Her income alone does not meet the requirements for their household size. His income alone does meet the requirements. Combined they have ore than enough.

She is my relative and I'm having her fill out the I-864 and he will do the I-864a,

My questions is, since her income doesn't meet the 125% guideline, does it matter which one files which form?

    They filed taxes jointly.

    Thanks

  5. Does the entire package need to be send together or can my joint sponsor send his AoS in separate? I ask because the joint sponsor lives in another state and I will be leaving the country (U.S.) soon and he won't be able to get me his paperwork before I leave.

If yes, would I explain that in the cover letter? or is there a "joint sponsor sending later" form I'd need to include?

    Thanks everyone.

  6. Hello everyone,

has anyone ran into an issue if the police report isn't in a sealed envelope? On the NVC docs page it doesn't say anything about it being sealed, but in doing some research there were a few posts of people who were told by NVC it needed to be sealed.

we have the police report and right now its sealed, so I can send either way, but want to make sure its the way NVC wants

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Well, I'm at the DS-260 part and filling it in and naturally it's not clear.

I am a U.S. citizen, my wife is immigrating, we have a daughter together and she is a U.S. citizen.

Currently we all live together in Vietnam.

First question, I plan on returning to the U.S. with my wife, but I'm not "immigrating" and neither is my child.

so would I answer no the questions asking "is spouse immigrating with you" "Is child immigrating with you".

we are returning to the U.S. together but only wife is the immigrate, correct?

  8. I'm in need of joint sponsor for my wifes visa. My question is who is included in the household size?

Currently, my wife, myself and our daughter live outside the U.S.

Obviously my wife would be included in household size, but would myself and my daughter? Since my daughter is a U.S. citizen.

Our joint sponsor is single, no kids at home or wife, so would household size be 2 (him and my wife), 3 (him, my wife and daughter) or 4 (him, my wife, daughter and me)?

    Thanks for the help.

  9. OK, so I started the NVC process and they want me to pay $120 for affidavit of support, but I know we need a sponsor since I work overseas.

I haven't submitted any paperwork to them, so I'm wondering what the fee is for and will I have to pay the fee again for the sponsor's AOS?

Also, how much of the NVC process is done online and how much of it is done by printing out and mailing in forms?

    Thanks

  10. Hello,

Beginning the NVC process now and in filling out the online form, it asks about an agent/attorney to receive mail.

I would like the mail to go to an address in the U.S., but I and my wife live overseas.

Will the person I list as an agent to recieve the mail be considered the petitioner or is this the person who will get mail?

  11. We've gotten the I-130 approved and have the letter from the NVC to begin part 2 (choose agent, pay fee etc..)

    We are both in Vietnam.

    My questions are:

    1. How long after we submit all the paper work can we expect an interview at the consulate in Vietnam? I'm asking because I have a job offer in Japan and it will be a one year contract. If the time is short to get the interview, I'd stay in Vietnam and not go.

    2. After the interview and the (hopefully) approval, is there a time limit on coming to the U.S.? What I mean is, can she be approved and then fly to America a few months later?

    3. Can she interview in Japan?

Thank you all, this site and the members have been so amazingly helpful in the process.

  12. I checked the status of my wife's I-130 application and it said it was approved but that documents had been returned to USCIS.

We live overseas, so that might be the reason.

What is the next step after the I-130 is approved. Do they send documents that we need to fill out? of are these the original documents we submitted showing approval for the next step?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  13. I am currently applying for a visa for my wife and we both live and work in Vietnam. We have a child and the child is a US citizen.

I file US taxes, but I'm wondering if the income claim matters? The minimum for family of 3 is around $25,000.

Because I work overseas will my income matter at all or will I still need a co-sponsor?

    Hope this makes sense.

    Thanks
