  1. Folks i am at odds a bit with our journey and need some personal examples from VJ family.

My fiancee is a nurse (RGN) back home and received her education through hospital based training (NTC-Korle Bu) in Ghana and has worked for 3.5 years now with her PIN.

We understand that she will need to write NCLEX and have her transcripts verified at a minimum, to think pursuing RN and beyond in the US.

What am struggling with is whether to seek verification for her license from Ghana.

I want to know what other folks specifically nurses, from other countries have done, Ghana or West African experiences will be really helpful.

Given the differences in education system and cultural approach would it be advisable to attempt a direct NCLEX + license transition approach, or an education re-clibration is the way to go? Help

  2. Congratulations to you. I am thinking of going there myself as well. can you please list the evidence you took along? this will help some of us.

Pictures: dated and labeled chronologically with stickies. Engagement pictures with family members also grouped

Call logs: MTN, AT&T, T-mobile, Calling Card, Skype call log, Viber call snapshots, google voice call logs. (High lighted both our numbers on all sheets)

Emails from both of us (list and sample content, facebook communication, twitter communication, Whatsapp texts, Viber texts, skype chats.

Moneygram log I requested from Moneygram

Hand written letters spanning 10 years

    Greeting cards

Copies from customs stamped pages in my passport showing my various trips to Ghana over the years

    Boarding passes

    NOA1 and NOA2

    Finances:

Pay stubs, letter of job offer, employment verification, 401k statement, bank letter and statement, W2s, Tax transcript for 4 years, notarized Tax returns for 4 years

I think that covers it all :). We had a lot of evidence available so didn't want to leave anything out. Seems overwhelming but they were very well organized with most relevant being at the top of each stack and the sticky labels visible. The had her remove them from the folder we used so that helped.

They took all, except the Bank letter, back account statement and W2 which the lady said wasn't necessary

  3. Sorry folks for the delay in updates.

Went to Ghana and was there for the interview. Packet of evidence spoke for itself and brought the interview down to 2 questions only.

    1) Have you been married before?

    2) Has your fiance been married before?

I will provide the embassy experience tomorrow, feeling jet lagged tonight.

Thanks to this wonderful VJ community for all the help and ppl in here

  4. My husband needed his evaluated- it take a while so if you want you can start it now (we are still waiting- but its Ghana's end that takes awhile! not the agency). So hopefully it would be done by the time he gets his EAD!

Most college use the World Education Services from our research. You pay them you fiance will go to his school with a form and request they send a transcript, they may then send an additional verification (which we are waiting for). This will tell the employers and/or schools here what his education is 'equivalent' to in the US. I wish we had started it sooner then we did--- from talking to others the WES ICAP package though a little more is well worth it if he is going to need a few transcripts in the future. There website has lots of information and the forms he needs.

Let me know if you have any other ?s.

World Education Service is comes highly recommended, but their reviews are poor from people who used them due to their evaluation scale and customer service, so I would advise you to research other evaluation agencies as well. My fiancee is a Nurse and we are using CGFNS which is standard for Nursing folks trained outside the US to seat board exam (NCLEX)

  5. Hi Guys,

For those who requested their cell phone records from MTN: (1) did you have to write a letter requesting the records for visa interview purpose?, (2) how long did it take to get the records? (3) how far back can you request them ( 1, 3, 6 or 12 months or all)? and (4) how much did it cost if there was a fee? Thanks

    1. Yes, we had to write a letter

    2. They said it will take 7 days, still not here :(

    3. Up to 6 months back

    4. No fee

My fiancee just requested it a week ago. we haven't received anything yet so she is following up on it this week

  6. My wife recently arrived on a k1 visa and I saw she was bored at home so I registered in school so she could get out of the house and not be so bored. She likes to punch me and I always tell her to stop, but it didn't hurt so I didn't think much of it. well, one day I was driving and the police stop me and said I had a warrant for my arrest. I was like what the heck is going on here you must have the wrong person then a detective showed up and told me I'm being arrested for a felony and a misdemeanor .

how in the world can this happen when my wife had no marks at all on her and to make matters worst I'm just finding out that the incident happened about 5 weeks earlier. I asked my wife what's going on and she told me that her friends she met in school pressured her to do it because we were arguing.

I always taught being that the incident was over a month old the police would at least try to make contact with me before charging me with such a violent crime.

I don't put my hand on women so if I would have slap her I would have been saying this is my fault but how could the police just take a lie had face value and ruining someone's life like this. It doesn't matter the outcome of this just having a felony on a person record is enough to screw them for life

So you guys are wrong you don't need people around because it doesn't matter my brother is staying with me and he has no clue what's going on?

Unfortunate situation. Hope justice prevails, but I dont get the point of the post

  7. Those with experience dealing with the embassy can help me with this. My fiancee got the packet 3+4 on the same day and was given a date to come back for the interview.

At what point is the DS-230 form supposed to be submitted, I am a bit confused cos I think it supposed to be turned in after packet 3 to recieve the interview date, but obviously Accra does things a bit differently.

Can someone advise what we are supposed to do. Fill it in and take it to the embassy on a random wednesday morning? Will she be allowed in side for this reason? etc..

    Thanks

  8. I know this question has been answered a million times in general, but specifically K1 from Ghana, do I need to include bank acct info with affidavit of support? I am planning on just using proof of income (ie. employment verification and letter, Tax trans/returns, pay stubs well beyond poverty line requirements)and maybe 401k statement as asset if needed.

please advise based on actual experience

  9.

As long as you have verification of your employment (letter) you are good to go.

Another example is if you get a job paying $63,000 PER YEAR in November. You fill out the form in December. What is your ANNUAL SALARY? $63,000. Even though you did not make $63,000 for THAT full year.

    Great info.

They indeed trying to anticipate your potential to sustain you and your partner when they get here, not trying to know how much u will have stashed by then
