  1. I am a Canadian citizen, born there. I am currently living in the USA and going through ROC for my permanent residency, which I got through marriage to my American husband. I had never planned on going through the naturalization process, because very early on someone who has dual citizenship told me that it is no longer allowed, and only people who had it previous to whatever change made that happen, would be allowed to keep it. Now I have stumbled on some info that says dual citizenship is possible. So I Googled and did some reading, and I am very confused. I think this may actually be possible, but I am not sure.

Does anyone know 100% for sure that it is still possible for a Canadian born citizen living in the USA with permanent residency to apply for Naturalization and get that, and still be able to keep Canadian Citizenship? And if so, is it after 3 years or 5 years that you can apply? I have read both, and I realize that it depends on the situation. But I have read that people who became permanent residents through marriage are eligible at 5 year in the guide here on this site (though the same guide says 3 years in a different spot), but in reading posts on this site, I see 3 years often stated. The part that worries me is in the guide I also saw that Naturalization requires a person to renounce citizenship in other countries.

Ultimately, I would really like a couple of links to USA/Canadian government websites that states for fact that yes it is possible or no it is is not, and if it is, then the requirement for years lived in the USA before you can apply for Naturlization. I have tried to find these links myself, but after a couple of hours of searching and reading conflicting information, my mind is mush.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

  2. I just had my medical, and I did not have any immunization record, because it's been over 30 years since I had any shots. I was given the combo shot for measles/mumps/rubella, and a tetanus shot. That's all the doctor said I needed, and it was done as Medisys in Montreal, who do a lot of these medicals, so I am confident they know what they are talking about. When you go for your medical you can discuss it with the doctor, they will know what you need, don't stress about that. It's the easiest part of this whole process, imho.

  3. Chicken Fricot is a very Acadian dish, which is really more New Brunswick than Nova Scotia area, but still close enough that your husband probably had it quite a bit. It's yuumy and would work for a buffet type dinner. Gravy for poutine is usually a brown beef gravy, unless you are doing a chicken poutine, then you would usually use a chicken gravy.

  4. I just got back from Montreal, I was there for my medical, and I walked past the consulate so I would know what I was looking for when I go back next week for my interview, and I noticed the sign out front that advised what was not allowed inside. So now I have a question. It said no car keys with the electronic key fobs are allowed inside, which pretty much all car keys have now, mine included. I was prepared to bring only the required paperwork, and leave everything else in my car, but I hadn't thought about my car key. I have no idea what to do now! How can I not bring my car key? I have no where safe to leave it. What do others do with their keys? Help please! Any advice on how to work this out?

  5. Ok, I got the Courier thing sorted out, although it's come up as DHL, not Loomis, but I assume this is ok.

Still need to know about a fee? Is this for CR1 visas, or just K-1s? We are applying for CR1, we are already married.

Also need to know if I should stick to exactly the documents requested on the interview letter or if I should bring proof of relationship even though it's not asked for.

Sorry for all the posts, panic totally set it. :(

  6. The more I read, the more questions I have.

My interview letter says nothing about paying a fee at the Montreal Embassy or at the Interview or on the website, but I have read some people talking about paying a fee. Is there another one I need to pay, and where/how can I do that?

My interview letter states which documents I need to bring, and nothing is mentioned about proof of relationship, but I see people posting about bringing that. Do I need to, or should I stick to exactly what the letter tells me to bring?

I'm still totally stuck on the Loomis thing as well. I cannot get a Loomis signup on the website without scheduling an appointment, so I am afraid to do that in case it will re-schedule the appointment I already have. Also the website wants me to specify my Visa Class, but CR1 is not an option, so I set it to IR, even though that is not correct, but it will not let me leave that blank.

I really need help please. :(

  7. I need help please. I signed up on the consulate site, but it says I have no appointment date, even though I do have one, and it will not let me sign up for Loomis without scheduling a new appointment date. I'm totally panicking here. :(

  8. I have an interview that was scheduled by NVC for October 11th at the Montreal Embassy. I have my medical scheduled for October 4th, and they tell my my results will be ready to be picked up the day before my interview, or the morning of my interview if I wish. I have all the documents that are required on the email list I was sent.

But I'm confused about the whole Loomis thing. Nothing on the letter says I need to register for this, but reading other people's experiences talks about having a Loomis confirmation number, so I checked the website on the letter again, and see a note about signing up for a Loomis confirmation number. So I signed up at the Montreal website, and I choose the option to register for courier service, but it always takes me to schedule an appointment, which I certainly do NOT want to do, as I already have one.

Help please! What do I do? Do I need this Loomis number? How can I get it if so? The website is not working correctly for me.

Also, do I need to do anything else? Or have anything else prepared? I have read so much, it's all just turning to mush in my head and I'm worried I will miss something.

  9. Cara Mia,

We are still waiting for an Interview in Montreal. Our closing at NVC was August 17th.... what was yours?

    Jerry (USC) & Victoria (Calgarian)

    CORRECTION!!!!!!!!

Just got our Interview Date on Oct 9th @ 8am WHEW-HOOOOOO!!!!!!

Congrats! Did you get an email or did you call and find out?

Our's has been a long and messed up process. Judge messed up our marriage certificate which caused a long delay, we were given the wrong info from NVC which caused a long delay, etc. It's been going on for a year now, case finally completed at NVC on Aug 28th, or 29th, we got the email on the 28th, but a person on the phone told me the 29th.

  10. It's been 2 weeks now, and we haven't gotten any email. My husband called NVC last Friday and they said they couldn't tell us anything, we had to wait for the Embassy. It's Montreal Embassy though, and from what I understand they do not accept phone calls. My husband did try to call them on Friday anyway, but wasn't able to get through to anyone.

Looking at the timelines here, a bunch of couples who got their NOA2s after us, who were also going through Montreal Embassy, have had their interviews this month, or are scheduled this month already. So we are getting concerned. What can we do at this point, other than wait? Is there anyone we can contact to find out the status?
