  1. I don't know how long it takes but I am getting tired of checking my bank account to see if the check is cashed. Its been 12 days now since I mailed off our package and nothing to report that is good.

Check the October and November applications to see the average time from mailing to cashed check. It will give you an idea how long it takes.

  2. I emailed the USPS and actually got a reply. It tells me that the USPS does not track certified mail. So I emailed back and asked if they do not why do they give you a tracking number and tell you that you can track it on their website?

They also said they have no record of my letter and can do nothing for me until they do. I have the tracking number which means nothing to them because no one bothered to enter it into the system. I don't know what to do, resend the N-400 which means copying around 30 pages again, canceling the check, getting two more photos ($16). I am going to wait one more day. I keep checking my bank account to see if they have cashed the check. I hate to send another and they end up with two applications.

    Oh what to do?

  3. I just want to vent a little. I sent my wife's N-400 Application off Dec. 1st via USPS certified mail. It only has to go from Northern Ca. to Laguna niguel, Ca. So far it is not in the USPS system (Dec 8th). I called and after listening to recordings for 20 minutes I finally got a real person. Gave her the tracking number and and she has no idea where my mail is. She says every person who touches the package is supposed to scan it, so I figured at least 4 people have screwed up so far. She says there is no problem just wait a few more days and if it doesn't track try to get back to them. What a cluster the postal service is. :bonk: Oh how I wish I would have sent it Fedex.

  6. Bubbletea:

Get everything together that you need to send and send it Fedex. It will cost you around $52 for 1 pound. Put it all in order so your fiance will not have to do it. Fedex took me around five days to get it to my fiance but it is better than the post.

    Good luck.

  7. Here is a copy of our cover letter for the N-400 if anyone needs it. By now we all should know how to write a cover letter :jest:

  8. I don't see a sample cover letter for the N400 application anywhere. If someone could share theirs it would help me put mine together. Right now I am using my I-751 cover letter as my example. I am planning on sending our application on the 22nd of November.

Thanks for any help you can give us.

    Sam

  9. Here is a sample of the letter I used to get my mother-in-law a visa to visit us. She has really nothing to show for assets or ties to homeland, but she got the visa no problem. She arrives here tomorrow. My wife is so happy to finally have her mother visit us.

Hello and thank you for reading this letter. When reviewing the application for the Visitor’s Visa (B2 Visa) for my Mother-In-Law, xxx xxx please consider the following:

In June of 2005 I petitioned a I-129F Fiancée Visa for (mother-in-law's) daughter, xxxxxxxx. The Fiancée Visa was approved and xxxxx arrived in California (via K-1 Visa) on October 23, 2005. In November 2005 we were officially married and in Febuary 2006, (wifes name) became a US Permanent Resident. .

We would like for (mother-in-law) to have the opportunity to visit us in (your town), CA, USA. (mother-in-law) have no intentions of wanting to stay here permanently; otherwise, this would be the wrong type of Visa to apply for. The sole purpose of them applying for the B2 Visas would be to visit her daughter xxxx.

Pending the approval of her B2 Visitors Visa, I, xxx, will personally be the one to finance (mother-in-law) travel expenses to and from the United States and during their stay with us. I own a house, so room and board for mother-in-law) will not be an issue. Enclosed are some additional documents we’d like to include in addition to (mother-in-law) application for the Visitor’s Visa to USA. The documents will show (My wife) is legally married to me. Also, the documents will show that I make enough money to finance my mother in law’s trip should she be approved of her B2 Visas. Those documents, along with other supporting documents, are:

    1) Copy of our marriage certificate

    2) Our son’s birth certificate

    3) Copy of our passport info page

    4) Copy of (wifes) US Permanent Resident Card and letter

    Please continue on next page……..

    5) Notarized I-134 Affidavit of Support (with supporting documents)

    a) My employment verification statement from [name of work]

    2005 W-2 form

    c) 3 recent paycheck stubs

    d) Property Tax statement to show I own a home under my name

We hope this letter, along with the I-134 Affidavit Of Support and its supporting documents, will help in getting the approval for (mother-in-law) Visitor’s Visa. Thank you in advanced for reading this letter, we hope of good news in getting the approval of the B2 Visa for my Mother–in-law. Should there be any questions for me, xxx xxxxxxx and (wife's name), feel free to contact us via email address or by phone, Home: 707-zzz-xxxx or cell 1-707-xxx-xxxx.

    Thank you again.

  10. I don't know if this has been posted already. But it really sucks.

    Cambodia bans marriage to foreigners

    April 3, 2008

Earlier in the week South Korea stopped issuing resident visas to Cambodians marrying nationals from that country. Today, concerned by the recent surge in Korean-Khmer weddings, the Cambodian government has banned Cambodians marrying all foreigners.

Cambodia has suspended marriages between foreigners and Cambodians amid concerns over an explosion in the number of brokered unions involving poor, uneducated women, an official said Thursday.

The move follows an International Organisation for Migration (IOM) report highlighting the plight of an increasing number of Cambodian brides migrating to South Korea in marriages hastily arranged by brokers who make large profits.

    [...]

While no systematic exploitation was uncovered, several cases of abuse did raise a red flag with the government, said You Ay, secretary of state with the Women’s Affairs Ministry.

“Seven women have returned from South Korea because they could not stand what happened to them there,” You Ay told AFP.

On one hand this seems like a prudent move. Yet on the other, it also seems like a gross violation of people’s basic human rights. Who is the government to say who can and cannot marry? In most of the rest of the world, the mere insinuation that people from Country X were banned by their government from marrying outside their race would be an outrage.

The government should do its job: evaluate each marriage application based on its merits — not ban marriages across the board. Banning marriages outright is not just lazy and inept, it’s probably criminal.

  11. Its already $4 a gal here. For us on Social Security it is a killer. I have been riding my bike to town (4 miles) when I can. I have built a greenhouse and bought some laying hen for eggs to save money. We sell two dozen eggs a week. We don't go out to eat. We are just hunkered down trying to wait it out or starve.

  12. I know that I am married to a Cambodian and this is the Thai thread, but we were grandfathered in when we had our interview in BKK and have made many friends here.

Anyway just wanted to let some of the old guard that Mariya received her 10 year green card today. I know there are quite a group of us going through the I-751 process. We would like to hear how some of you are doing.

We will be filing for naturalization in November.

    Good Luck to all

    Sam and Mariya

  13. Navy. what part of Ca are you from. We are in Crescent City. Just wondering. My wife is the only Cambodian in our town.

Did you track your case via DHL? to see when it got to the embassy. If you know the date it was sent you can find out what day it arrived there. Once you find that out you can figure how long for them to enter it in their system then send your checklist. I don't know for sure about Phnom Penh but this is what we did in Bangkok.

I know if you wait for the packet 3 to come then send it from the states it will take forever.

    Sam

  14. Did you track your application from NVC to Phnom Penh to make sure they received it. If they have received it then you might send in your checklist. I sent in my checklist 4 days after they received my case. It saved a lot of time. It will take at least three weeks for the packet 3 to get to you by snail mail. Be sure to have all your forms filled out and ready to take with you to the interview
