  1. Hi,

I was trying to apply for financial aid and I'm at a roadblock because they need my Selective Registration info. I was registered automatically when I applied for an ID in 2007 and as an F1 student, I didn't have a Social Security Number. When, I got the registration acknowledgement card, the Social Security Number part was blank. At the time, I didn't pay much attention to it and just kept it with my other records. Now, as an LPR, the financial aid office at the university I'm applying to, needs this information.

Does anyone here have any idea on how to update my Selective Registration with my SSN? On the https://www.sss.gov/RegVer/wfAddressChange.aspx, it only mentions address change. I've been calling their phone but I can't reach anyone. I'll try again on, Monday. Should I just submit a copy of my old selective service card (without the SSN) to financial aid office? Or, do I update the info on my card before continuing the financial aid process? If so, how?

    Thanks

  2. When I initially filed the I-485 form, I made a mistake on Part 2, 'Application Type' and selected F (which is for Cubans) instead of A.

I tried correcting it by calling USCIS and was asked to mail my request instead. I mailed my request which was then returned to me asking me to call. I discovered the mistake pretty late and right after, I received the notice for the Interview. At the interview, I asked the IO to make the change, which she did. Now, I have the approval letter which says that the I-485 was approved under the Section: Derivative under the Cuban Adjustment Act.

I've called them again, and now I'm being asked to fill up the I-90 form and send it to them. I'm not sure what exactly I need to do. The only option available to me on the form is 'Card has incorrect data due to USCIS error'.

Has anyone been in this situation before?

  3. Oh my goodness. I thought the race ended with me.

Hang in there, it sure is very tough just being stuck in limbo. I found this process to be very stressful.

I hope everything works out for you. Good luck.

congrats on getting your AOS approved

but i think i have you beat in the last person bit

me and my wife filled dec 2011 and still get initial review on the status of our case no interview or anything

the funny thing is we sent in a service request and where told to wait 4 months in a standard form letter then after the 4 months we call again and are told that we can submit another service request so we do and then get another form letter telling us to wait another six months to then have to call back

we have contacted our senator at this point and hope that he can help us move things along

    wish us luck

  4. Haha. I refuse to get stuck in a automated system!

I pay my taxes and I demand a person to speak with. BUT, I'm calm for the most part. Once they pass that 180 days if I don't hear a word, they will definitely be hearing from me. Oh look, that'll be on Wednesday. :)

Thanks for the welcome. It's nice to know that we aren't the only forgotten ones out there.

    Keep us updated :)

  5. it's been almost 9 months now... still nothing. contacted uscis, and the rep told me that my application is already outside the normal processing times so she did a service request and gave me a reference number... contacted a congressman too.... i hope i get it soon! crossing my fingers. am i the only november 2011 filer left waiting? last update was december 13th when i had my biometrics, my case got transferred to freakin CSC december 5th.

    :angry::unsure::wacko:

Wow, that's even longer than a lot of us on here. I'm on my 7month. I hope we all hear something soon.

  6. I couldn't tell if $14,710 was the actual poverty line or if that was the min value needed. If it was the poverty line, then $29,420 would be 100% above the poverty line :)

I see what you did there :) 100% means 100/100 which is 1. So 100% of $14,710 is just $14,710.

    125% is 125/100 which is 1.25. Now, 125% of $14,710 is 1.25 * $14,710 = $18,387.

  7. Hi,

I came as a student in 2007, dropped out of school in Sept 2009 and got married in Dec 2010. My wife miscarried in 2008. During this entire period, I didn't work(no SS) and mostly received limited funding from doing software and web design work(so, no tax returns). Due to limited finance, we weren't able to start the AOS process. We plan to start it this week and I have a few questions.

My father-in-law is going to sponsor us. He got divorced in August 2011 ( he was married for 30 years ).

    1. I-864 part 5. He's single now and his past 3 tax returns show he's married. If I fill out 0 where it asks for a spouse, should I send proof of divorce? If I do so, with the fact that he just got divorced, is it going to affect my AOS?

    2. Is it a red flag that I haven't worked during all this time?

I haven't ever had any problems with the law.

    Thanks for you help.
