That's all you needed to show your employer for I-9, provided SS card is unrestricted.

Of course, update GC and passport to have your married name. GC through I-90 form and passport via consulate of your country.

Ill update my GC when its expired since it wont affect anything now. But for my passport, in my country it is not usual to change to married name. So I am not sure how its going to work as the passport must match our Malaysia Identification Card.

will it be a problem to have GC under my married name but passport under maiden name?

Let's stop here for a second... For I-9 verification you don't have to show your employer a GC.

    If:

    - You have an unrestricted Social Security card (no words such as Valid for work only with DHS authorization)

    - The Social Security card is in married name

    - You have valid Drivers License / State ID with married name

    Then:

You could have just shown your DL/ID and Social Security card to your employer for I-9 verification. They cannot demand to see GC.

    Oh! Interesting.

My DL and Social Security have my married name and my social security is not restricted. So they wouldnt need my GC correct. Weird they asked for it.

I have been with the company since 2017.

    update GC = pay i-90 fee $540 + wait months / years

passport = u can use ur maiden name it doesnt matter, bring marriage certificate to show why ur name is not match. everything else : Social security + GC + DL = make it match

any reason why u have discrepancy on social security / DL  and GC?

Are there any timeline i must update my GC to match my SS and DL? My GC is expiring in 2027, so curious if i should just renew it later and update my name?

When i applied for my GC back in 2017, I put the name that matches my passport as I never change my married name in Malaysia since it is not customary to change name after marriage. But few years ago my husband and I bought our house so we decided to update my name to my married name. So I updated my SS and DL.

  4. Hi!

I have my married name on my Social Security and Driver license.

But on my Green card it is still showing my maiden name which matches my passport.

I never really thought about it until my employer requested for another copy of my Green card for record.

Do i need to update my GC? But my Malaysian passport it is still under my Maiden name.

Thanks so much for writing to me!
Malaysian Police Clearance was the easiest and it was approved in 5 days. I decided to submit my NOA1 receipt to Singapore and the appeal was approved. Just paid the fee yesterday and waiting for approval before doing the finger printing.
Glad to know the doctor isn't going to give me all the shots in the list! That's a relief.

Thanks for detailing the timeline of your NOA2 approval to NVC and interview. I'll be happy if I could just make it for my husband's graduation in late May.

No Problem. :-) You may look at my timelines. Our timelines are pretty much the same except mine is 2016 and yours is 2017. We submitted our I-130 in May 2016. You may minus 1 month from my timelines as we have 1 month delay in submitting our documents to NVC as it was stucked at Rapidvisa.

Hello. I am a CR1 May 15 filer Texas Services Center. It's been almost 5-1/2 months since my NOA1 notice and according to my timeline, I could be expecting NOA2 late November.

I am trying to prepare as much as possible so when its time to submit my documents to NVC, it could perhaps speed up the process to the embassy.

We went through RapidVisa and my husband has submitted everything including income tax, evidences of property, etc. I believe I only have to come up with police certificates when we get the NOA2 notice unless we are required to provide more evidences.

    Here are my questions:
    01) I have recently applied online for Malaysia Certificate of Good Conduct. When should I start applying for my police clearance certificates which I need for Thailand and Singapore? Is there a validity for them? I have contacted Bukit Aman Police HQ about getting finger printed and they are most helpful. Was told it could be done on any working days. Thailand and Singapore require supporting document on reason for application. Can I use my NOA1 notice together with the cover of I-130 application or do I have to wait for NOA2?
    02) For NOA2 notice, does USCIS really send out notification through emails and sms besides a letter to the mailbox? My husband is flying to Kuala Lumpur January 03, 2018 and will be spending 3 months with me. I am worried the NOA2 notification won't reach him before he flies out.
    03) I understand medical test would be the last thing to do prior to interview. Please share what kind of vaccinations you have to take? I saw a long list and feel quite intimidated.
    04) How long is estimate time from NOA2 to interview? Could my husband join me to the embassy?

    05) I have been looking through some members timelines and feel quite discouraged yet hopeful to get my visa in hand by end of April, 2018. I really hope I could fly to the US for my husband's graduation in mid May. Is there a possibility?

I am aware so many factors are involved and nobody is able to give a precise timeline when one gets a visa. Appreciate sharing your experiences to help reduce my anxieties with many thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Alice

    Hi Alice,

I will reply based on what i know too :-)

    2) We only received letter and didnt received any email/SMS. But you definitely can check in the USCIS apps/website to see the approval.

    3) You actually dont really have to worry about it as the doctor will know what to give you. When i went for my medical exam i was given Chickenpox and flu shot.

    4) Once NOA2, your case will be sent to NVC. During my time, which was January 2017, it took 10weeks and 1day  to complete my case. At the time, the processing time vary from 10-12 weeks. I am not to sure on the current NVC processing time, you may follow the thread in this forum to get an idea. Once its completed by NVC, they will then forwarded the document to Embassy in KL. Depending on your completion date, your interview time will vary. Usually, interview date are given by the 1st week of each month for the following month. Example your case are completed on Nov 14th, so Expect to get the interview date by early December for January 2018 interview.

    5) If you get your NOA2 late November, and didnt delay any document submission/fees to NVC, also NVC timelines still the same, or faster than before, I think you could get your visa by May 2018. And conservatively June 2018.

Can't remember exact wording but, pretty much  that the NVC had received all required documents to forward my case to the embassy.  It took about 7 days from cc to get the email.

Interview was scheduled about about a week later. Then about another to get the p4 letter.

    Cc 3/3

    receive cc email 3/9

interview schedule 3/13 for April 18

    received P4 email  3/17.

Ah so looks like the one we got in the mail today is not the Cc letter. Because it didnt say that they will forward to embassy. It only mentioned to not let more than one year pass without contacting nvc concerning the visa petition else all fees and documents submitted will be expired.

U should receive an email from NVC letting you know that your case is complete in the next few days.  As far as the interview date, depends on available slots at the embassy where your interview will take place. Once the interview is scheduled you will receive an email which is the P4 letter, with the date and time.

After u get the P4 you will need to take a medical exam before the interview.

What is the content of the email for the case complete? We yet to receive any email for the case complete. CC on March 24, 2017. Although we received a letter in the mail today stating informations - case number, visa type, PD, embassy and that the validity is 1year. Is that the case complete letter?

    Thank you!

I understand that "NRA" can be sent in place of SSN when filing as "Married Filing Separately" and you are not claiming any deductions for your spouse. We filed the same way.

You said your relative filed online with "NRA" in place of SSN, right? I want to know if this is true, what application/software he used to do so? We had to paper file 1040, because we needed to file "Married Filing Separately" with "NRA".

Not sure if this is what you are asking. If yes, then My husband filed his tax as "Married filing separately" with non resident alien (me) electronically. He used taxact.com. Its free. He got his refund. Although im not really sure on the SSN part because we are using the software.

    Scan Date January 18

Thank you! Im sure you will be next! ?

Congratulation. I guess your case was already in review before the new processing time took place.

My Second Scan date is January 26th.

Im not sure. Might be. But hopefully they wont take 11weeks. Because it seems that recently most cases are completed at 10wks+ before the 11weeks. But they did mentioned that they have backlogged.

    7 minutes ago, Thesmiths2016 said:

how did you get them to complete it while on the phone?!!

Oh we told them we spoken to a lady few days ago that our document are currently being review and that we are curious if its completed. He then went to get our document and told us to wait. When he came back he said, "Yayy your case are completed 2mins ago". He then explained the next steps and that we will get our letter next week.

  11. I entered US with my B2 visa while my application was still pending for approval at USCIS. I printed my NOA1 but they never ask for it. The CBP officer asked me if i have any intention to immigrate. I told him "yes but not now and that We have applied for IR-1 and currently pending for approval".

Then he asked few other questions - how long we've been married (6yrs), how old is my husband (32). They didnt ask any documents from me.

Like all feedbacks i got from others prior to my travelling, just be honest and stay calm.

  12. What they told me is, "We currently have a high volume of cases, and they are taking at least 6 weeks to clear."

I don't know why the website says 2 to 4 weeks. 6 weeks is the number that matters. Basically, if it's been less than 6 weeks since your AOS documents were received, they aren't going to give you any information. They'll say "Your scan date is XX-XX-XX, call back when it's been 6 weeks."

Our case took 8 weeks. I suggest calling a week after you mail off the documents, to verify your scan date. Then wait until it's been 5 weeks, and call once a week after that. If it's been more than 6 weeks from the scan date, you can request a supervisor look at your case.

    Good luck!

Unfortunately the website's timeline is not accurate. They are incredibly backlogged and it's taking 6+ weeks to get CC. When I asked someone from the NVC why they don't update the site to reflect the actual timeline, they said it's a government site and takes a lot to change it. So unless something changes, be prepared to wait a bit.

Ahhh ok.. we had glimpse of hope when we saw the 2-4weeks review timelines. Lol.

But yeah, our next waiting game will start soon.

Thank you for the replies. :-) Cant wait for this to be over!

  13. Hi all. Just got my DS-260 unlocked today. So by next week We will send all documents to NvC. :-)

Anyways, I noticed that after the scan date, it took about 6weeks or so for NVC to review the documents and case complete.

But when i login to the CEAC website, it says it will take them 2-4weeks to review and if everything good they will schedule interview.

Just curious because during USCiS stage the timelines is 5months so before the 5months up we cant really call for update.

NVC stated in their website that it is 2-4weeks review, but was it not the case?

  14. If your English name was given in your birth certificate, your first/given name would be Cxxx Nxx Cxx. Surname/Last name would be Pxx. Your Chinese name is a given name, not a middle name unless stated otherwise in your birth certificate.

Yes, the sequence will be different when and if you follow another country's name sequence because Chinese names (well, most Asian names) will always have the surname/last name shown first. But by right, your English name and Chinese name is a given name (Cxxx Nxx Cxx). I have friends who filled up the form (not DS-261) and they wrote their name accordingly as well - Just make sure that the spelling is exactly the same as the passport.

    But that's just my 2 cents :)

Yes my English name is in my Birth Certificate as well. Yeah thats what i thought, for chinese name their last name are always shown first. Hence when filling up any forms their name sequence will definitely not in the order as per their passport. The problem is I have english name which makes it even complicated and rather confusing.

Does your friends fill up application for immigration purposes as well?

    Thank you for the reply!

  15. Yeah we should have change the name long time ago. Its such a hassle doing it in Malaysia and it is not customary. By the time we wanted to do it, we already started the i-130 and do not want to mess anything.

Our I-130 has been approved using the wrong sequence. How can we correct it?

In fact, her B2 visa was issued based on

    Given Name: Cxxxxxxxx Nxxx Cxxx

    Last Name: Pxx

  16. Hi I have a quick question. For awhile it never really bother me until we filled out DS-261 few days ago. Where it says must follow exactly as per Passport.

I am the applicant and my name are mixture of English and Chinese name.

My full name are in below order:

    Cxxxxxxxx Pxx Nxxx Cxxx

    Pxx is my surname/Last name..

So when i filled up form where it request for my surname I always put Pxx.

    First name: Cxxxxxxxx

    Middle Name: Nxxx Cxxx

It will then show Cxxxxxxx Nxxx Cxxx Pxx, where my last name will be at the end. That sequence is not the same as what showed on my Passport or Birth Certificate.

In order for me to have the same sequence as my passport/birth cert i have to put my surname as Pxx Nxxx Cxxx. Which is not correct.

Should i change so the sequence are following my passport?
