You can not get it removed from your SS card until after you receive your GC.
What it means is, that in order to work, you must have a valid Temporary EAD received at your POE (like JFK), or a valid EAD card. Then you can work.

It is possible to have a religious ceremony and NOT be legally married, which would not violate the provisions of the K-1 visa.
