I am waiting for my child's passport renewal. Last week, when I tracked the application online it said it was being processed. But when I checked last night, and again today, it now says there is no record of the application. I am sure I entered in all of the information correctly on the tracker. Is this normal, or should I be concerned? It's been less than three weeks since we submitted the application, so I don't expect it to have been completed already (we didn't expedite). But we are traveling later this month, so I don't want the application to be delayed.

Never mind. The passport was delivered yesterday! I did call the Passport Information Center and after being transferred to a supervisor, he was able to locate my son's record and determine that the passport had been mailed. He said the status online should have stated that the application had been completed and was not sure why it was showing no record of the application.

Yeah...I'm getting a little worried.

We have a complicated situation. Filed to lift conditions late, after my husbands GC was already expired. Included the letter of explanation, and received the extension letter as normal with no problem. Biometrics were scheduled in a timely manner, and went off without a hitch. In fact, the man doing my husband's biometrics said he would 'definitely' get approved regardless of the late file. (I was happy to hear that, but also not putting my hope in it).

We have been planning and saving for a trip back to my husband's country (Tonga) to visit family - first time for all of them to meet our 1 year old - so very important to my husband. But, now we can't find the extension letter and called USCIS but they refuse to send us a new one. They say we can go get a stamp in his passport at a local USCIS office. I'm hoping we will just get approved and receive the new GC before we have to worry about getting a stamp - but now, they are taking soooo long I'm starting to worry!

Plus, there's a chance I guess if they do finally get to the March filers, that we could be denied based on the late file - then I don't know if we will be able to make our trip in December - although I do have the extension letter which is good for 1 year. Does that trump a denial - or once denied then he can't leave the country? We don't want to miss this trip because it cost us over $5K and is nonrefundable.

On a side note..and a soap box - it's irritating that a law abiding, tax paying, green card holder that has already paid every attention and followed every immigration process from K-1 to today, including thousands of dollars of fees, has to fear denial and possible (?) deportation due to filing a paper a few days late. booo

I think that if your ROC is denied, your husband would have a hard time re-entering the US with the extension letter. When we traveled with the letter, at immigration my wife was made to wait a few minutes while someone in a back office checked that her I-751 was still being processed. So I think if you tried this they would know that your I-751 had been denied.

Checked the status online and it said a new card was ordered July 24th! Good luck to everyone else!

CSC seems to be real slow with giving out biometric dates!!

I would imagine that it's not the CSC that is being slow, but the local USCIS office where you have to go.

We sent our application to the CSC and got the biometrics letter around two weeks after receiving the NOA1. The appointment was for about two weeks after that, at the Phoenix office.

If you are back from the trip before your green card expires, there is no problem, just use the green card to travel. You do not have to surrender the green card when you file I-751.

But, considering travel plans can change, I would file as soon as you can. Then you will get the receipt letter which serves as a 1-year extension to the GC. Mine arrived less than a week after I sent in the I-751 packet, but that may not always be the case. Then if you do have to stay out of the country until after the GC expires, you can travel with the GC and that letter.

I called the number on the back of the NOA and they said that there's no way to contact the office. They don't even have their number. I thought that was a little bizarre however, we are in 'murica.

Instead I stopped by my service office when I was in the area. I spoke to the lady at the front desk after walking past a line of 100 foreigners standing outside the building (felt like I was at a 7-11). The lady at the front desk said that early walk-ins are no longer possible due to the exponential increase of applicants. They are understaffed and way too busy. Not to dissimilar to a DMV experience. I inquired about the possibility of not being able to "make-it" to my scheduled appointment and she said don't worry about the lengthy process of rescheduling walk-ins are allowed if the said alien arrives after their appointment date. Again makes no sense. 'Tis 'murica.

my thoughts to you though would be to make a thread asking anyone who has been to your local service center and ask them if it has been busy how long their wait was etc. I would say Alexandria, VA had about 300-400 applicants. 1.5 hour wait.

If your service center has like anything less than a 30min wait I'd do an early walk in. Otherwise they might be more incline to tell you to come back after your scheduled date.

Thanks for the response. We went yesterday morning and did an early walk-in in Phoenix. When we arrived the waiting room was packed, so I expected we would be turned away. But the receptionist didn't seem to care that we were not on the scheduled day. When my wife mentioned that her appointment was in fact for the next afternoon, the response suggested an attitude of "why are you wasting my time with such a trivial detail?"

So it sounds like we were lucky if others were turned away when they tried to go early. I suppose if they are so busy every day, it doesn't really matter if someone comes a day early or late. My wife waited about an hour after she filled out the paperwork for her number to get called. At one point an announcement was made that they were processing 48 people per hour. They asked everyone who did not need to be in the room to leave since it was getting too hot! The AC seemed to be much stronger in other parts of the building.

My wife has her biometrics scheduled for next week. We have a foreign trip planned for next month, returning after her conditional GC has expired. I realize that the receipt letter you get after submitting the I-751 counts as a one year extension of the GC, but I am worried that this might cause problems when we travel. For example on boarding the plane to come home it might not be recognized by the airline staff.

I have read that you can also get an I-551 stamp in your passport that gives you temporary permission to be in the US. It seems like traveling with that would cause less hassle. Does anyone know if they might give her this stamp if she asks at the biometrics appointment? The USCIS office is 150 miles away, so we really don't want to make a separate trip just to get the stamp.

I saw a post here recently where someone claimed that when your package is opened at USCIS they only care about your documents containing the evidence, and they just throw out everything else, including the cover letter. If that is true then it doesn't matter what you put in the cover letter.

We had a similar issue with our conditional, 2 year green card. After the interview we got a letter saying we were approved and should receive the card within a few weeks. But we waited and waited and it never came. Repeated calls to USCIS did not help until we finally spoke to someone helpful who explained that probably someone in the office where we had the interview must have forgotten to actually put in the order for the green card. He said he would send a note to the office to have them look at our file again. Shortly after that we received another approval letter, and the green card itself came a few weeks later. But the expiration date of the green card was based on when we were initially approved, which was about two months before we actually got the card!

So I would keep calling USCIS support until you get someone willing to help you.

Contacted my local office and they said that they are fully booked. So an early walk in is not an option at the moment (at Alexandria, VA).

At my first biometrics I walked in on a Friday afternoon and it was empty. Apparently there was only 100 people per day. Now they are reporting 600 per day with the same amount of staff.

That's a ridiculous increase from 2 years ago. thanks obama.

I am curious, how were you able to contact the office? My wife has a biometrics appointment at the Phoenix office, but we would like to go early. But since the office is a 2 hour+ drive away, we want to avoid making a wasted trip. I would like to call the office to check in case they are also not allowing early walk-ins, but I can't find a phone number anywhere.

Bring 2 years of tax transcripts (free from IRS and come pretty quickly) and 3 months recent pay stubs. Any evidence provided on this trip including your boarding passes, etc is also helpful for interview time.

Thanks a lot. I didn't know about the transcripts. Since I am leaving in one week I doubt I could get them here before I leave. Do you think I could ask for them to be sent directly to France? I couldn't find this info on the IRS website, but I will give them a call in the morning to ask.

what is a CV... Maybe it is because of his background. I thought that after the interview you did not have to turn in anything else just go pick up your visa

First of all, here is my history: I sent in the I-129F application December 18th. I received the I-797 saying that the petition was approved, dated May 25th (I did not get the email or text message notification, even though I did for the first NOA). After calling the NVC several times, I was told they had no record of my case. I emailed nvcresearch@state.gov on June 24th, but as of now I haven't received a response. However I called NVC again today and was given a case number, and told the file was sent to the embassy in Paris today!

Because of the delay at the NVC, I realized my fiancee would not be joining me until the end of the summer at the earliest. So I made plans to visit her. I will leave next week and return the middle of August. But since it looks like the embassy will probably get the file by the end of this week, it seems like she could get called for the interview while I am there. So I want to make sure to bring with me all of the documents she will need for the interview. But obviously since the embassy doesn't have the file yet, they have not sent the list of what to bring. This is what I have:

Copy of I-129F package (she has this already)

Originals of documents submitted with the I-129F (mainly boarding passes from trips we took together)

Form I-134, and documentation (letters from my bank and my employer)

Is there anything else I am forgetting? I have seen people mention pay stubs and tax returns, but according to the I-134 instructions you only need the letters unless you are self-employed, which I am not. Should I bring them anyway? My employer doesn't give pay stubs anyway, the information is all on the web, so that would not be a big deal, but do I need to bring copies of my tax returns? For how many years? Or can I just bring my W-2s?

HI, I am a French citizen holding a B visa which allows me to stay only 6 months. I had a baby nearly one year ago. His father is a US citizen, so the baby has US and French nationalities. I would like to stay in the US with baby and father. Is it the best solution and the quickest one to start with a K visa ? or is there any better option ?
