  3. That's great, but I wonder if there are other factors? I added my husband as an authorized user to my Chase card and he still doesn't have a credit score. I think we will need to go with a secured card.

I am not absolutely sure how this works. I got a job three months after my husband added me as an authorized user to his credit cards. My employer did a credit check on me and my report stated that I had an oustanding credit background, which only showed three month-old credit history. I don't believe that I had a credit score at that time but I was starting to build my own credit history. A year later, I started getting credit card offers. Then, I applied for Citi and I did it online. I combined both of our incomes since I added him as an authorized user.

  4. Can you actually get the NBI report at the Phils Embassy in Tokyo? I am going thru the same thing. Fillipino Fiance living in Japan. We just got NOA2 mid August. Still waiting to hear from Embassy. How long after NOA2 did you get letter from embassy?

My fiance was told she will have to go to the Phils embassy in Tokyo to get the finger print form. Then send that to someone authorized in the Phils (family) to get her NBI report there. They did not say that she could actually get or even request the report from the embassy.

    Hello Toby,

I am sorry for not clarifying the process involved in getting the NBI clearance, it has been a while. What was told to your fiance was correct. She can get the form from the embassy and mail it to someone in the Philippines. Or she could ask a relative in the Philippines to secure an application form for her, which I think will take longer.

I received the letter from the embassy almost a month after I got my NOA2. I highly suggest that she request her Japanese Police Certificate ASAP as it may take up to three weeks. She can start assembling her documents now, you can go to this website (http://cdn.ustraveldocs.com/jp/jp-niv-typek.asp), it has everything she needs.

Note: The Police Certificate from Japan is sealed. It should only be opened by the immigration officer.

  5. Also I know the CENOMAR will need to be within 6 months, but the birth certificates are older... that is OK right or will she need knew ones with Red Ribbon?

Yes, the CENOMAR has to be within six months. She can use old birth certificate as long as it was issued by the NSO and she doesn't need the Red Ribbon.

She also needs to provide police certificates from Japan and the Philippines (NBI Clearance). She can get the NBI Clearance from the Philippines Embassy in Tokyo. To get the police certificate from Japan, she has to apply at the Prefectural Police Headquarters and bring the following documents with her: passport, alien card, and a copy of her NOA2.

  6. Thanks, this helps.

I'm concerned about just adding her as an authorized user, because usually statements will only show my name in that case, which is not the best of circumstances for proving co-mingling of finances. Hence, the reason I'd like her to be a joint owner instead. So is the only reason I cannot add her as a joint owner to my credit card account instead of just an authorized user is lack of credit? Meaning that, once she gets some semblance of credit, I can then ditch the authorized user privileges and flat out add her as a joint owner?

Can another option be getting a second credit card in both our names, with a secured limit right away, and using that card instead?

Also, another thought came up. What about car loans? Is it possible to add her to my existing loan?

I'd like to share my experience about getting car loans. My husband traded in his vehicle last month and he added me as a coborrower. We got our loan through the dealership. A week after signing the paperwork, the dealership called my husband and asked him to sign another paperwork because they cannot add me as a coborrower. The reason behind was because my green card will expire before the contract ends. I don't know how it works but every bank follows different procedures so it might be worth a try.

  7. Hello guys. I am trying to help a friend determine if she's eligible to apply for citizenship but my knowledge about this matter is limited. My friend is ready to send her paperwork but one of our co-workers told her that she is not eligible yet because she was out of the country for over six months. Below is her timeline.

1995 - Came to the US on a student visa

1999 - Got married to a US citizen

    9/18/2001 - Became a resident

2006 - Husband was stationed in South Korea

2007 - She found out that her husband was cheating on her so she filed for divorce.(The husband had a baby with the other girl). Soon after her divorce was finalized, she went back to Thailand and work there for six months and eventually went to Australia to get her MBA.

2009 - Flew back to the US

She had lived in the US for over 10 years and was married to a US citizen for seven years before she left the country. Does she have the required credentials for citizenship or she actually have to wait until 2015?

Thank you. I'd really appreciate your assistance.

  8. Just got this reply from my service request.......

    "Hello,

This notice acknowledges receipt of your status inquiry concerning your pending I-485 application. We recognize your interest in a final adjudication on your pending application and are aware of the difficulties caused by any delay in processing. The California Service Center is committed to processing this workload, and will be making every effort to adjudicate your case in an expeditious fashion as soon as available under our resource constraints.

Thank you and have a great day!"

Dunno what that even means! :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

I received this e-mail too Widsy. I was so frustrated and almost tried contacting the senator or congressman but yesterday I received an approval notification. That's seven weeks after I placed the service request. Hopefully, you will hear from them soon.

9.5 months since filing, transfer to CSC, finally got email today that the case is approved.

Did call to open a Service request a month ago and was told you can't open a service request. Status says that you should just wait - they are just busy.

Was getting ready to go the congressmen route next week but I am glad we didn't have to do that.

Good luck to all those that are waiting. There may just be light at the end of the tunnel yet.

Congratulations! Mine took almost nine months from the day I filed.

  9. I had my AOs interview today. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. The officer was incredibly rude and would roll his eyes at everything we said. The whole thing lasted about 45 mins, but he did approve us. He made the whole thing much more unpleasant than it should have been, though. He said someone would review our case after him and then our card would be ordered if they approved it.

    :|

It's a victory, but it didn't feel like it

That sucks but look on the bright side, you're finally done and you won't be dealing with USCIS for two years. Congratulations :)

My EAD card order today........Also a may filler.

    Congrats and welcome aboard!
