  1. Hello has anyone tried to get biometrics appointment at mumbai consulate recently? I am trying to register my parents at the ustraveldocs website ( as per instructions) as a new registration to set up biometrics appointment, however I get an error message that "your personal details match a profile which is already in the database". I am unable to proceed further? Has anyone faced this issue. Any help is appreciated. two years back, they had renewed their visitor visa and had got a biometrics done. could that be the reason why i am unable to login?

  2. So here is my part. I have been in the US for a month. I started my job search before coming here. Its tough finding a job here inspite of having experience.

I have applied on all job sites, wesites of many banks and It companies yet no luck. Can anyone tell me any good recruiting agencies in NY-NJ area? How are the chances if i sign up with one and what exactly is their role considering the fact that i have experience in Banking and IT

It gets a little boring staying at home whole day. I want to start working as soon as possible

  3. Its been more than 2 weeks for my Port of entry. I have not got my SSN or Green Card Yet.

We went to our local SSN office, and they told us to wait for three weeks.

In the meantime I got a welcome letter through snail mail.

Can any one tell me, how do we get the SSN and greencard? Does it come by e-mail or by post?

  4. As per my experience, I did not get my passport on the same day. finally after two days i got it through courier.

You can track your passport on VFS website. Also if you call the courier guys, they can track it for you.

You also get SMs from VSF regarding the status of the passport handover from consulate to blue dart etc..

  5. Congratulation.

Could you please share the information about setting up an appointment at lilavati? Do you have to call in advance for an appointment? What kind of documents you have to take with you? Any instructions such as no feed before tests? thanks.

U just have to call them and they will give u an appointment over phone. You have to take with u ur interview letter and 2 photographs. You will be instructed about this while taking an appointment. you do not have to fast before the test

  6. My wife arrived in the US on a CR-1 visa this past Saturday. At the POE, the immigration officer asked her to visit her local USCIS office to pick up the GC, 'anytime Monday - Friday'.

I just wanted some clarification on this. I was under the impresssion that the GC arrives in the mail and there is no need to visit a USCIS office. I have no problems with scheduling an infopass appointment but I want to make sure we are not wasting anyone's time, including our own.

Also, my wife had checked the 'check here if you want to receive your SS card in the mail', on her DS-230. I just want to confirm that this too arrives in the mail, or whether we need to visit the local SSA office.

    Many thanks in advance!

I was also told the same thing at the POE on 19th July 2012. Its beena week now. No SSN orGreencard. We visited the SSN office and we were told to wait for max of 3 weeks

  7. Good for you! My wife has worked 3 months now as a temp for a large banking firm in their post mortgage processing department. She recently was asked to apply for a permanent job with the company. Usually openings are for permanent positions are broadcast department wide, they have 100's of temps, but this opening opportunity was given only to her as far as she knows. She has a phone interview on Friday with the HR department. She also was given a bronze award for her work yesterday. That's pretty good progress for someone with 3 months on the job. Also after 10 months in the USA she has finally started to really consider the USA her home. As I'm sure many here have learned, there's a big difference between moving somewhere and considering that new place home.

    Thats good Caryh and Ellesse..

Thanks for sharing ur experiences. It gives a ray of hope to may be many (like me)

  9. Hi people,

I had my interview today i.e 11th July 2012. I got to the consulate by 06.15 and came out by 8.45. Here is a list of the questions that was asked to me both by the Indian CO and the american CO

    1. Who is calling you to the United States

    2. In which year did your husband immigrate to the US

    3. did he immigrate alone or with his parents? Which Visa Category?

    4. What does he do for a living?

    5. Is this your and your husband's first marriage?

    6. Where and when did you meet?

    7. Who fixed your marriage? was there a middleman to fix ur marriage?

    8. Which school and college did your husband sstudy in?

    9. Does he own a car? Which brand and which colour?

    10. Did he come to meet you after the marriage?

    11. When was the last time you spoke to eachother?

    12. Did you go for a honeymoon? when and where?

Then the CO told me that you are approved and you will get your visa in 3 days.

  10. Well,I have applied for a CR-1 visa. My husband submitted AOS at NVC with signed I-864. I carried a copy of this entire package too. But VSF did not ask me to submit it

Now I want to know that all of you people who submitted documents at VSF, did you submit a copy of AOS ?

  11. At NVC, I had submitted only notarized copies. Hence, I think VSF asked for the originals of the birth certificate and marriage certificate.

Regarding AOS, I am a little confused too and have posted a new topic.

We submitted AOS at NVC. However I was not asked copies of that at VSF.I wonder why?

However I am going to carry a copy of AOS( including copy of I-864 )m signed by my husband at that time at the interview.

  12. hi,

As I have stated in my earlier post, I submitted all documents to VSF. However they did not ask for AOS.

I am a little worried now. Was it necessary to submit AOS documents. I carried all documents with me, but the VSF people never asked the documents.

    Anyone with a similar situation?

  13. i have few questions if u can answer.

    1) why did they not accept aos ?did u already submit aos at nvc that's why they don't accept ?

    2) and what if we dont have original birth and mrg certi available ? they accept certified copy or notarized one ?

    Hi,

Yes, we submitted the AOS at NVC. Also We have to get the AOs at on the day of the interview.

Regarding your second question, I am not too sure on it. You could call up VSF and ask them if they accept certified copies.

  14. Hi people,

This is just an FYI. I submitted my documents at VFS, Mumbai today. There is no appointment to be taken.

Submitted copy of all documents that i had submitted to the NVC + Medical report, except AOS. My original birth certi n marriage ceri were also taken.

Had to pay courier fees of Rs. 393.

    Hope this helps.

  15. I got my interview letter through email from Nvc

    Hi wildwstkabs,

I have my interview on 11th july. You get an e-mail form NVC which says P4. This e-mail has your interview date. From the comments that i have read, we will not get any letter from the consulate. The link on the consulate website states which documents have to be brought at the interview. Its like a checklist

If u have paid $230 to NVC, u need not pay anything at the consulate on the day of the interview.

  16. Hi,

I have been asking a lot of questions off late. But its just that m a little tensed bfore the interview.

So here goes one last question ...

For the interview and prior submission to VFS, I have xerox copies off my husband's I-864,employment letter, pay stubs, and 2011 tax returns etc. However i want to know, do i need the original copies or Xerox will do?

Do i (the beneficiary) need to present my tax returns, employment letter etc also?

    Please help!!

  17. Hi people,

The consulate website says i have to pay a Visa fee. If yes how much($404 or $230?) also it says that All fees paid to our office must be paid in rupees or dollars through a bank draft drawn on a nationalized or foreign bank in favor of the American Consulate General, Mumbai. Do we have to give this to VFS or bring it on day of interview? What if i make the draft now and the exchange rate changes? how and when should i get the bank draft made?

all ur replies will be highly appreciated

    Thanks

  18. Hi friends,

So I have my interview in less than a month's time in Mumbai. I still have some questions. It would be great if they were answered/

    1. Is the Packet 4 i.e the interview letter, the only packet that i get from NVC? Is there nothing that comes from the Consulate?

    2. I have submitted noterised/certified copies of birth certificate and marriage certificate to NVC. Does Consulate require notarised copies or is a clear photocopy enough?

    3. Mumbai consulate has a list of Appointment Packages on their website. Do i have to download and submit any for a CR1 visa?

    4. Do i have to pay any Visa fee.

    Thanks
