  1. This is a bit of a weird one. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions, or if you guys think we're handling this correctly.

My husband is on his greencard (he had a K1 visa through me years ago). We plan to do citizenship eventually.

He and I bought a house in another state a few months ago. He was moving out there first, then I was to follow within a few months for various reasons (work, saving a bit more money, packing up the rest of our stuff, etc). I filed his change of address form right after he left, but didn't file the I-865 for myself since I wasn't moving just yet. I figured since I hadn't changed address, it was all fine, as I clearly hadn't moved. I'm living with family at the moment, so I can stay as long as I need to.

Within a few weeks of his moving, he lost his job in the new State as he wasn't a good fit. He's been looking for work since, and it's been about two months. As you can imagine, this has taken a toll on finances with just me working, so even if he's lucky and gets a job in the next month or two, I figure I may need to stay here all year in order to pay off bills and then build savings back up. The marriage is still very much stable and together, only we've got this blip we have to deal with until things improve.

So.....as a result, I'm still not moving, and I'm still not filing the I-865 since I've not moved. The question now is - will this cause any problems for us? Obviously I can prove I've been here and he's been there all this time, but is there something I should do to alert Immigration about this, or is there a possibility they may contact me at some point asking where my form is? I don't expect they will.

When I do send in my forms upon moving, I guess I can include a cover letter and copy of his change of address form just to cover myself?

    Anyone ever dealt with this?

  2. My husband was approved for his green card finally!

  4. Just an update. We both went to the Smith office the other day as walk-ins, which they told me they accept. We went in and told the receptionist we needed the vaccinations list done for a K1 visa. She went in to the doc's office to ask/tell him someone was there about this. She came out and then went in again to ask something else, or show him something. The doc came out soon after and started right in on the forms. They know what they're doing with the forms and the types of visas, but it was funny as they seem to just get right down to it yet had to go back and forth a bit for the things they needed to do and check, like envelopes and their stamper. Maybe that's cause they'd just opened? (we went in right after 10am) Still, we were in and out in maybe 15 or 20 minutes, which is better than I expected.

The office is a bit dated looking and they have an immigration medical sign outside. So this seems to be what they do, period (?). Some of the other offices I was looking into that wanted more than $50 seem to have things like botox and other cosmetic services as a side business (!). I guess that's how some stay afloat.

As they were finishing up the secretary quoted $50 to me, so I'm assuming the $75 plus info my husband was told last week was incorrect info by someone new or unsure of the visas. I asked if they could possibly give me a receipt for my flex plan, and she did. Though they were a bit unsure what it was at first, so I guess not many people ask for that. But I got it, and submitted it. So that was a bonus.

I'd definitely recommend going to this office and seeing Dr. Smith. It was fast, and he knew what he was doing with the forms. Getting that form signed was a big worry, esp after we had to get one last shot and then realized we better get my husband a flu shot too just in case since it's now flu season (we did that on the fly the night before at a CVS). Getting it out of the way was a huge relief, as was not having to pay more than $50. So I'm very happy with Dr. Smith's service!

  5. I don't know what to think, as he told everyone he called that he just needed the forms done to show he had the shots, no medicals. But everyone was pushing medicals/medical pricing. And he said the Smith office told him he had to get the TB skin test as it was a requirement. I'd hope that's just misinformation, but the difference in price is very odd, as they specifically told him it would be $75 for the I693 to be done, then $50 for the skin test, then another fee for a full medical if he needed that. I'm definitely going with him when he goes to this office so I can do the talking and they hear the accent!

  6. Very interesting...I called Dr. Smith's office myself to see if I'd get a different answer than my husband (due to the accent issue. I've noticed he sometimes will be told higher rates for small things if people assume he's a tourist).

At first I got put on hold by a woman. Then I called back after waiting too long for my taste. I got a man this time and he said it was $50 for just he transcriptions. He also mentioned they have Saturday hours on top of the weekday ones. I don't know if the office is unorganized or if the accent thing made a difference (anyone with opinions on that?) but I figure we'll go with this doc, and I guess it'll have to be when I'm around just in case so I can do the talking.

  7. We just called the Smith office. We might end up going with him depending on other prices, but the price has gone up to $75, and they were trying to sell a skin test that's "necessary" to my husband for $50 more, which is definitely not what he needs or is required. We're still calling around to other docs to get some prices. Seems this is a scammers paradise. How can the gov allow this????

  8. Thanks to all! We ended up at the Union Square Duane Reade clinic last night for the shot as it seemed to be the only choice for this at a quickie drug store clinic. I wanted to avoid them due to a really bad insurance issue with DR that dragged for an entire year not long ago thanks to the continal screwups of their 86th Street clinic people (avoid that one, terrible issues with insurance claims both times I was there!!).

I'd had a good experience with Union Square being efficient and not screwing up in the past, so I figured we'd just risk it. My husband knows nothing of the US medical system so I needed a place I could go with him after work hours is what it came down to.

All went well, though we had problems at the pharmacy as my husband wasn't showing up in the insurance system yet even though I have his temp ID card now. So that's another call to make on top of all the rest of the running around. Possibly in a few days we'd of not had that issue, but nothing we can do now.

The doc at Union Square seemed to have done these shots before for immigration, so that was a bonus. I've now left the huge doc list at home for my husband along with a printout of the one to try calling first as it might be a lucky shot. So we'll see.

I don't get why Dr. Blau doesn't offer a transcription/signature service on top of the full medicals, or shots himself. But it seems the specialists who do this seem to all push the full medicals from what I found searching.

  9. I agree $200 is a lot. The reading I've done on these threads including the one you posted both makes me think ok, we can get the shot somewhere, then get a $50 dollar doc to sign it if lucky. Then I read about how most of these docs want a lot and charge large fees regardless. Part of me is willing to pay the $200 just to be done with this. But I do know that's insane.

I just made some calls. One to a travel shot doc I use, but her policies are a bit backwards with insurance. The other was to Rite Aide, and they supposedly can do the shot on insurance (we just got our new temp insurance cards today). So I guess if we can do that this week then I can have my husband start calling docs to ask what they charge. There's a few ones posted about who charged nominal fees for the forms, so if he can find one of those it'd work. I just wonder if he'll be making phone calls all tomorrow though!

BTW, Jay-Kay, I'd been wondering about that double shot/how it works thing -- but what you said makes sense. I'll have my husband get the second one when it's due, but if all they need is to know it was started, then that's perfect. We have the option of doing a blood test to see if he's immune, but maybe it's better to just get the shots and be done with it.

  10. My husband (two weeks tomorrow!) is now here and we're gathering up everything to do the AOS. Lots of forms, getting copies of things and the whole bit. He needs his MMR shot or blood tests showing he's resistant.

I overlooked this while preparing forms in between other stuff the last months, so the I-693 Supplement issue has hit me full on, as has all the research I've done about civil surgeons and such.

My options seem to be to either get the shot somewhere and then get a CS to sign off on the sheet for hopefully not a terrible price....or...just say screw it and pay more and take the easy way out of worrying about this. Which leads me to...

In my googling, I found Dr. Blau at http://greencardmedicalexam.com/. It's not far from where I work. I called them the other day, but am confused. They say they'll do blood tests, which may or may not be covered by insurance. Or, they can give me a prescription for the shot to pick up for them to do in office (I assume that's what she meant) or send us to a free clinic for them (!). Then they'll do the forms for us. They seem to have a $200 flat fee no matter what, but honestly, the layout of their info is confusing, and I'm not sure why they'd not just do shots there rather than sending me elsewhere.

My questions are: has anyone used him for what we need? A shot and the form? How was it? I see there are a lot of reviews on him here, but a number of them seem to be fake, which of course makes you question how honest they are.

If I did do the shot elsewhere (and I can't seem to find if it's two shots or one for sure -- conflicting info), then are there any docs in NYC that anyone has dealt with that will do the form for a decent price that any of you have seen?

  11. I think it depends on each case from what it sounds. My fiance's interview was last week (I was there...in the process of doing a review right now), and even though I brought every conceivable bit of financial info for him to present to them, all they wanted from was my employer's letter and the main 134 form. I have a feeling it depends on what they see on the form with a quick glance and they judge it from there regarding what they want more info on?

BTW, I'd say originals of the employer letter and bank letter as asked. With other things, get originals where you can, but sometimes the only original is a printout of an online statement.

  12. Does the UK number reach the same Scottish office as the US number?

I thought maybe it was a Monday morning rudeness thing on their part, but it was only Monday morning by me - was 2pm in the UK!

I'm due to leave for the UK in a few days, so have to read the link that Nich sent more carefully, and if I do send a letter to the consulate, which I may just, I'll wait till after my fiance's interview next week ;)

  13. I'll look into that complaint line. I'm still weirded out by it and am wondering if I just had ultra bad luck or what. Have others just called and gotten through, or did you choose 1 or 2 and get through? Or did you just let someone answer? It seemed I was damned if I did and damned if I didn't.

Another weird thing is when the first lady was telling me to key in my card number, she was still talking to me. I don't understand if she thought I was on a regular phone (I used my mobile)? But why would she be talking to me when I was reading/inputting numbers? I'm not kidding when I say I WAS in the twilight zone.

  14. I read about (and noticed) the contradictions in the information the London consulate sends prior to K1 Visa interviews regarding payment, but figured despite the $16 fee, it would be best to pre-pay so we could have that receipt for my fiancé to show when he goes there next week, especially since he's written to ask them to allow me in with him and we want to get in with as little hassle as possible.

Well, now I wish we had waited to pay in person, as my nerves are shattered and I was near tears this morning due to how frustrating simply paying was. I felt like I was trapped in twilight zone that would never end.

I was going to call at lunch, but got to work early so decided to do it quick (ha!) and call right then. I called the $16 per call 866 number listed on the information sheets the embassy says to call for help and to pay the fee. I thought it was a dedicated line just for K1 issues, and I also assumed it was based out of the embassy. Now I know that it's not. I'm also guessing it reaches an office in Scotland somewhere? I hope I'm not offending anyone, but accents wise, that seems to be the worst place for a call center for something so important. (since I started writing this, I saw the receipts they sent my fiancé, and it is indeed an Edinburgh address and outsourced? company that handles these calls)

When you phone, they give two options you can choose (1 and 2), but both were vague and said nothing about payment, so I figured they were for people who might need specific info. If you don't choose either option, the recording continues on and says more general stuff. Then it starts to ring you through automatically. I stayed on the line until someone answered at this point. Someone did, and she instantly started to process me. At first I thought she was Filipino as she had a heavy accent and it was hard to understand her, then I realized she was Scottish (don't ask how they sounded the same!). It was VERY hard to understand her, though she was ultra professional. So I was pausing after she'd speak, and sometimes I had no clue what was being said till seconds later when my brain suddenly caught up with her. My fiancé has been working in Edinburgh the last year and a half, and I generally am fine with most Scottish accents, but this one was thick. It made me really nervous, and I know that all the pauses on my end and my tone of voice made me sound like an idiot, and that made me more nervous.

I'd written down all the info that their info sheet said they'd ask for. But one of the first things she asked for was my fiance's phone number. That's not on the sheet, and I told her the only place I had it on me at that moment since I was at work was on the very phone I was calling from. Luckily after hunting through some old old address list printouts I had here, I found his number. So that was good, but I didn't know why they didn't mention having that handy.

She took his passport number, his address, LND number and email. The receipt number and notice date of the first NOA that the info sheet said I'd need weren't asked for. I had trouble with the system reading my card when I keyed it in to pay the $16, so she had to transfer me for that to a secure line that's not recorded. Then when we got to the $240 part, I kept getting sticky keys which made me hit the wrong ones, so we had to transfer to the non-recorded line again. She took my info again, then said she was transferring me back to the recorded line.....and....that's when the problems really began.

It rang and rang, and she never picked up. I don't know if she was cut off or I was or what, but after 5 minutes of ringing, I hung up (I wasn't sure what to do honestly, and this was not a great point to be cut off at!). I called back and someone answered. I told them I had gotten cut off paying for the K1 interview fee. This person sounded English and was brusque. She said that I needed to call back and choose another option. I told her I hadn't chosen an option either time, I was just calling the number the info I was given said to. She said she couldn't help me and to call back and choose another option (she wouldn't accept I didn't choose anything either call!) and got off quick....no interest in helping or directing me somewhere.

I then called again. Another Scottish woman answered. She said I didn't have the right number. I read the number to her and she now said it was right, but to call back and choose option 2. I said ok, but was weary and more and more worried now. I was also unsure of why no one was offering to transfer me.

I called again and chose option 2. Another Scottish woman. She said I should have chosen option 5. I said there was no option 5, just 1 and 2, or to stay on the line like I had when I first called. She said oh, it's not 5, it's 4. I said there was no 4. But she continued on and said something about what 4 and 5 were for, and said to choose 4. So I said I should just press 4 even though there's no option for me to? She said yes. So again, I hung up and called back.

There's no option 4 btw. There's none on their recording, and pressing 4 gets you nowhere -- not recognized! By now I was beyond worried, unsure if they processed the payment or would double process it if I got though ever again, and felt I was in the twilight zone. My nerves had turned to upset full blast now, and I was near tears from the frustration. This had been going on nearly half an hour by this point.

I called again. I let it go through without choosing anything. Another Scottish woman. She said I had to call and choose option 1. BTW, both her and someone else gave me the reason why I had to choose all these options, and they gave conflicting opinions on what a K1 visa is (immigrant or non) and what each line was for. Another odd thing is they tend to all say "you want to apply for a K visa?" at first even after I told them I was trying to finish paying for the K1 visa interview fee.

So........I call again. Chose option 1. Got another Scottish woman. She says.................call back and choose option 2 (!!!!!!!!). I told her I’d chosen both by this point, and also had been told to choose options that don't exist, and the first time I called someone simply picked up and took my info. She was nice though -- the most sympathetic of the lot, and she ended up transferring me to some Scottish guy who checked that my payment had gone through (it had).

We did get the receipt in my fiance's email, and it says you can't get in for the interview without that barcoded receipt (which we know isn't true)....they also spelled my last name wrong :\ As they weren't interested in my address or contact info, I'm hoping that the misspelling isn't a big deal (they turned a b into a d).

It all seems fine now, but I never ever expected the payment process to be this nerve wracking, and it worries me about the rest. I know it was an outsourced center, but seeing how the interview is in 8 days, it's made me feel very nervous about how things are being handled in general. The lack of help was worst. If someone called me by mistake, I'd be expected to direct them to the right place. Government outpost or not, shouldn't efficiency be part of their goal?

  15. Just an update. We moved the medical up to April 30 and my fiance' also sent a letter saying the medical was scheduled along with asking if he could interview the week I'm there. He sent another DS-2001, and I did a letter mentioning that we would likely be going just over our NOA2 timeframe, so I requested they extend us. I put in the legalese phrase some people use instead of notarizing a letter. I had to scan it for my fiance' to print, so hopefully that will be okay and they'll see it matches my other signatures and letters. So we'll see! We need to book his transport to London once he decides which of two plans is best for him, but hopefully it should run smoothly. I think also if I can be there for the interview that it will be extra special seeing his (hopefully positive!) face when he comes out.

    Thank you again, Nich!!!

  16. Thanks again. I want to make things as "right" as possible and just not screw it up, and even if I haven't, it still is scary as I think "what if I did??", if you know what I mean. If not for immigration I think we'd of been married last year, and we'd of had a lot more money saved. There's a finish line in sight, but god....the thought of something going wrong or finding that there was a better way is just nerve wracking.

  17. Thanks, Nich! I hadn't seen that thread -- I find that when I go to the UK portal page, when I search it doesn't just search the UK centric posts. So I end up with all sorts of info (like that letter I posted above that I found). I'll have to bookmark it and start reading through during my lunch hour tomorrow.

My fiance included a cover letter with his forms, but just listed them really and gave basic info. I had been figuring that between processing time and their getting the medical package, the case stayed open automatically and that I would just sent a notarized letter with my fiance to the interview basically repeating my letter of intent from my first package sent to immigration. I had read others did that, so I figured it was all kosher. As I said, I suddenly had that OMG moment last night and jumped up in bed in a panic -- thank god!

He's going to call about the medical tomorrow, and I'll have him do the form again along with a letter about the interview. I also perhaps can do my extension letter and send it to him to include so it's all in one.

  18. I've just emailed him saying the medical has to be pushed up. I'm more confused now as he did fill out a DS-2001 and mailed it with his packet. So I assume they're thinking he's ready to go and has had the medical? I thought the form packet had to be sent first thing, then the medical was scheduled next.

Every time we seem to get a handle on this, a new round of confusion happens!

We'll see tomorrow if he can get a medical sooner than later (I said before April is up to him). And if possible if they have a slot, we can go to the interview in May then if we can get it for that week.

  19. I'll have to talk to him about maybe pushing the medical up if he can do it. He's in Scotland right now, and it's not that easy to get time off where he works, but he may have to do it and just suck it up. He also doesn't move fast as I mentioned...trust me, I pushed several times per week. He ended up having to pay for rush delivery of his long form birth certificate and police certificate because he didn't order it when I told him to back in the winter. I was reminding him every few days about it and reminding him that we had to work within the four months for everything and asked him to have it all mailed by the two month mark....which was missed.

We always planned for him to come to the US in Aug or September no matter what, so we were going with the four month timeframe, and as the process went along, I had assumed that they kept anything open that was in progress during that time even if it went over the time limit. I had read some things about that here that seemed to suggest the consulate kept things open if there was evidence it was in motion. It wasn't till last night it suddenly hit me that it might not work that way!
