  1. Hey everyone, OK so I have had a fairly dramatic few days and it's turning out to be an absolute nightmare and so any advice that you can offer would be appreciated but sadly I think I know the answer.

Ok so a few days ago I made the trip to Vegas and had a pretty massive few days of gambling and fun ! That was great , the stupid part was that I took my Green card with me ... needless to say I lost it or so I thought.

I get back and on the Tuesday night I fill out the i-90 form for a replacement card and make all my copies and write the check for $450 - obviously I am feeling pretty bad at this point but i'm sure it will be OK

Wednesday - put the envelope in the mail box at my apartment and suck it up ($450 done but at least I don't get carted back to England and lose my marriage)

Friday --- FIND THE GREEN CARD !!!

So I call USCIS and they say I can withdraw the application by writing etc etc but that I wont get the $450 back as all checks are non refundable . The question is that check hasn't cleared yet and is probably still in transit - I called my bank and have put a stop on it but now I am concerned that a) I will get in some sort of trouble down the line for that

    b) It wont work and I will have to pay $450 ?

Anyone ever experienced something similar / any advice would be appreciated ! I might end up getting deported anyways if I am lucky as my wife looks like she might kill me after all of this !

  2. Hello,

We are in the process of submitting our AOS. I am a full-time professional student, so my only income is student loans (which do cover living expenses) My mom is a joint sponsor and fulfills the income requirements. My question is...Do we both have to fill out a I-864 form (I believe we do) and if so should I just put that I make $0 and have done so for the past 3 years? I don' have filed taxes or tax returns to attach!

    Thanks for the help!!

  3. Hi guys,

Ok so I had my interview a while back at the Embassy in London and it went very well except for hopefully a small hiccup ... I stupidly took the wrong birth certificate (I blame my mum). Anyway's the consular officer was fine about it and basically said that I just needed to send the passport and correct birth certificate in.

Anyway this was also no problem and despite the courier company being late to collect it the Embassy have my documents !! Ok so what I would love to know is how long can I expect to wait ?

They recieved the documents on the 29th May and we just had a jubilee weekend etc etc

Can someone please help as the constant checking on the DX website is starting to become obsessive

    Thanks

  4. Hey,

Going thru the whole k-1 process too thru the UK! I just put all the paper work in order based on what I found here on visa journey, no binders or folders--just a giant clip. I think the Service Centers prefer the simpler the better. Also the only evidence I included were plane tickets and dated pictures of us through the years. No RFE's, everything went smoothly and now we are just waiting for our interview date!! From what I've heard about the UK, the "evidence" portion is not as important as it is in other countries, so definitely do not freak out about it! For the I-129 I think the only thing they are really looking for is proof of having met! A couple good things should be sufficient! Good Luck!

    Hello everyone,

Well I feel my heads about to explode with the amount of paperwork infront of me! I was thinking of putting everything in a binder and putting individual components (such as cover letter, photocopies of boarding cards, photocopies of e-tickets etc) in one clear plastic wallet so to keep everything similar together. This way, I can kind of assemble it like a school project?! Maybe but dividers? Does this sound logical? My evidence is growing every day - so far I've got copies of boarding cards, e-tickets, hotel confirmations, car hire confirmations, bank statements, credit card statements, my rosters from work to prove my whereabouts (I'm flight attendant), basketball tickets, MLS tickets, Rome colosseum tickets, Rome train tickets, a boarding card from Rome, passport stamp copies (in colour), a US departure record card (which I believe should have stayed in the states, oops) with a bright stamp from LAX on it, 10 screen shots of Skype conversations, numerous e-mails exchanged between us, bla, bla, bla....

Any suggestions for presentation? The binder would be a simple clip one which would be very easy to dissemble for the guys at USCIS...

Also, today I scanned in my boarding cards and printed them off in colour, very high resolution, but they've literally all come out A4 sized! So very easy to read but do they want actual size copies?! Anyone know if they even care about that?!

Thanks in advance everyone, you're all such a great help through this mind boggling process....

  5. If you are looking at staying for a more extended period of time...look into a J-1 visa. The J-1 visa is :

"The Exchange Visitor (J) non-immigrant visa category is for individuals approved to participate in work-and study-based exchange visitor programs." It's basically an "internship" visa.

My fiance came over and spent a year working for a hotel, and we got to be together for a year and determine what we wanted for our future! It was a complicated process (like all this visa stuff is) but well worth it! Good Luck! :)

Or like me after the first few entries/exits, UK Immigration just says "welcome back." They don't even ask how long I'm staying, or my purpose for visiting anymore! LOL...I think they are sick of my face. I've come a long way though..one of my first visits a lady officer asked "how long do you plan on conducting your relationship this way?" I responded with "ummmm, I guess as long as it takes?" I felt like a little kid getting in trouble by the teacher. Whatever you manage to do hun, don't overstay your visits or it will be a major problem down the road if you do decide to get married. And answer all questions honestly on everything!
