Well done! Hope it's smooth sailing from here on!
Start looking at the AOS paperwork... there's alot of it!
AOS!?!?! He's not even here yet! We want to relax for at least a little while before the next headache!!
It's seemingly never ending, but at least for the rest of it we'll be together!

Dropped off the Divorce Decree today and had fingerprints done as they forgot to do them at the time of the interview. Thank GOD for VJ, we knew to ask about it!! POE should be some time next week as long as we don't run into any further delays. We aren't letting ourselves be excited quite yet. Won't believe it's really happening until he's in the air and on his way!! But still, WOOT, almost done!

Fingerprints are required, they just forgot. He went in today and had them done. Should have the visa within a week! Woot! and FINALLY!!!!
-
Thanks, Coconuts!
Anyone ever NOT get fingerprinted at their interview? We are concerned that it was an oversight and could effect him further in the process, say at POE or something, and want to avoid any possible delays/problems. We've already had way too many!

Hello fellow VJ K-1 filers. Just a quick question. Do they always take fingerprints at the interview? They did not for my fiancee and we are wondering if they don't do it for people who already have them on file from previous visits, visas, etc. Any info would be helpful and reassuring, thanks!

Interview was today. Sort of approved. They want my divorce decree (petitioner). Would have been nice if they asked for it so we could bring it TO the interview. Should have known. More delays. Nine months today. Thought I'd be excited, but just more waiting. If they don't like the copies he has then this could cost us another month. I HATE THIS PROCESS!!

I believe the POE in these cases are a factor. POEs in Ireland and Canada get a vast majority of non-US citizens/residents being Irish and Canadian.
The airports in LA, New York, Atlanta, Chicago etc, get a much higher percentage of travelers from all over the world, and in the grand scheme of things, VWP program travelers with no negative immigration history or unusual travel movements aren't their priority in my experience.
Just my two cents.
If that is the case, then it is an incredibly unfair system! And it cost us a lot of money and heartache!

Was your ex a student? Not saying you're wrong but how much money would the officers really think a student who's traveling would have? As a precaution what the poster can do is get an official letter (signed & stamped/with school's insignia) stating how many years she currently has left and or a letter stating that you have paid X so far in tuition (if on a scholarship even better, just bring official document from school stating so) to prove ties. As it relates to the length of the OP's stay I don't think it'll be a problem as 3 months is pretty average for students when vacationing in the US (when you have family and friends, that is, to help).
No, he was not a student. Luckily in our case, his POE was in his home country so he didn't spend hours on a plane, get turned away, and have to go through the hassle of having to get home and all that entails.
I just wanted her to be well informed and prepared. The letter sounds like a good idea. I know most people don't have a problem, but it can happen and it helps to have as much information as possible. This can be a very upsetting and costly error to make.

Immigration doesn't care how much money you're going to have during your vacation or even enter the US with (as long you're not traveling with US $10,000 undeclared). The only thing that matters is not working (includes simple paid/unpaid babysitting or volunteering) on your visitor's visa and not over-staying.
Best travels and happy vacation.
Actually they DO care how much money you have AND what kind of ties you have to your home country. We lost $1,200 because my then boyfriend was turned away at POE for not having proof of being able to support himself while here. We knew nothing about the requirements in place to use the VWP at the time. We thought you could just come as long as you were from a VWP country and had a return ticket that was not further than 90 days from arrival. NOT the case.
Good luck to the OP, hopefully you'll have no problems, but I'd be prepared and do my "homework" on the requirements of people using VWP to come for an extended visit to the US.

The embassy actually (surprisingly) called my fiance this morning to let him know that even though the letter in packet 4 mentions an enclosure about the medical, there isn't one.
The medical information is included in packet 3. It was nice of them to get back to us, but it seems a little counterproductive to mention an important enclosure that doesn't exist.
Oh well, just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else runs into this in the future.

Hi All,
The embassy is closed tomorrow due to holiday the medical is on Wednesday and we don't know if we'll hear back from the embassy in time. We would really like to know what's in packet 4 so we don't miss something important for the medical. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Packet 4 arrived today and it was a single sheet of paper. It is a letter that states the following:
Please see the enclosed information for further instruction about the medical examination required for all intending immigrants. Be sure to read all of the enclosed information and follow the instruction very carefully. When communicating with this office either by telephone or letter, please provide your name and case number exactly as shown in this letter.
There was no enclosed information. Please let us know if we are missing something or if you got the same letter with no attachments, thanks!!

Finally got our interview date. May 8, 2012. Glad to have a date, but SERIOUSLY?! Why does it seem that nothing with our case is done within the timeframe that most people experience. They were scheduling interviews 3-4 weeks out and all of a sudden it's 7 weeks for us. Sorry, had to vent.
Happy for all of you coming to the US soon! Welcome and congratulations!!
-
Thanks for the replies. I called the number and no date set yet.
Out of curiosity, anyone know what would happen if the interview date was set before you could get your medical results? Could you still have the interview and just give them the results later?
-
Hello all,
Just wondering how people going through the Dublin Embassy found out their interview date. Did you have to wait for packet 4, did you call, did you send an email? We need our date. We sent in the checklist last week. Also, would like to know how long it took for the embassy to schedule the date after the checklist was sent.
Thanks for any help you can give!
-
So happy for all of you (and slightly jealous, I must admit). Congratulations!
Hopefully we'll have our interview date soon! Still never got the stupid immunization records so decided to just get the shots again if it comes to it. Sent the checklist in earlier this week. Thinking he'll be here in about 6 weeks, still feels like an eternity...It will feel so strange not to be in a perpetual state of waiting any longer!!

The letter in packet 3 requests 2x2 inch passport photos. How strict are they about the size of the photos? Will the accept any "standard" size passport photos you get at the chemist, or do they have to be exactly 2x2?
Thanks!

Thank you all so much for your helpful replies!

We are a little confused. Question #38 on the DS156:
Have you ever been refused admission to the U.S., or been the subject of a deportation hearing or sought to obtain or assist others to obtain a visa, entry into the U.S., or any other U.S. immigration benefit by fraud or willful misrepresentation or other unlawful means? Have you attended a U.S. public elementary school on student
status or a public secondary school after November 30, 1996 without reimbursing the school?
My fiance was denied entry on the visa waiver program due to a lack of proof of funds to support himself while visiting. Do we answer yes to this question? Or, is it only if he was denied entry due to "fraud or willful misrepresentation or other unlawful means"? We are quite confused by the wording of this question.
Please help!

Congrats to all who have been approved!! And good luck to those with interviews coming up soon!!
We are waiting for stupid vaccination records before fiance feels he should schedule the interview. I am really tired of waiting, but we are so close now and I really have no reason to complain. It will feel so weird not to be in a perpetual state of waiting soon!

The information that you provided is very reassuring, thanks!!

Yet another question. Thank goodness for VJ!
According to the instruction sheet for the I134-F, you only need to submit a letter from your employer to verify income, not pay stubs or tax transcripts. My gross salary is several thousand dollars higher than the amount needed to qualify according to the 2011 poverty guidelines. The letter from my employer will state this salary. I have been with my new employer since last summer but, was laid off for 4 months in spring of 2011.
My previous years tax transcripts show a decline in income from 2008 through 2011 due to a pay cut from my previous employer (a consequence of the bad economy) and the 4 months unemployment in 2011. In 2011 my adjusted gross income was actually a little under the poverty level requirement due to being on unemployment for 1/3 of the year. Also, my actual gross salary has always been several thousand dollars higher than my adjusted gross income on my W2's. I think that is the case for everyone. I assume they are aware of this.
Should I write up an explanation for the decline in income? Should we submit only the letter from employer and pay stubs, but have the transcripts there if they ask for them along with the explanation? I also have several thousand dollars in savings and am getting a letter from my financial institution as requested in the form instructions.

We finally have the visa and he's coming tomorrow, but we are unable to find temporary insurance coverage until we are married and he is covered under my policy. We tried some trevellers policies, but they say he is ineligible because it's not just a trip where he'll be returning, but a move. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!
