  1. When I went to the SSN office in NYC the guy I talked to said that SSN's applied for during the visa application come through less than 1% of the time. He had me fill out a form for a new card and I had it in the mail less than a week later, it was pretty incredible.

  2. Casual is fine. You won't be sitting down in an office cubicle for a formal interview. You sit and wait a lot and then get called up to two windows. I would say wear something presentable but that you feel comfortable waiting around in. It's cold in Montreal right now and if you get there nice and early you'll be outside waiting for almost an hour.

I wore a button down shirt and a nice-ish pair of jeans, and there were plenty of people dressed more casual than I was.

  3. Just got our waybill number! Passport left Lachine tonight just before 9. I know the facility it's being shipped to isn't open to pick anything up over the weekend, but does DHL continue shipping operations through the weekend? I'm really hoping it'll get into the facility tomorrow or Sunday so I can pick it up and move on Monday. Too optimistic?

  4. Thanks!

I wrote the review sitting at the airport on 4 hours of sleep, so it may not be coherent and I haven't checked it for spelling, but I hope it helps!

  5. Had the interview this morning and just posted the review.

Thanks to everyone on this board for all of their help, I couldn't have done it without this site.

  6. Hey all,

This is maybe the stupidest question anyone has ever asked on this site, but is it cool to bring a magazine or two to the interview in Montreal?

I figure I'll get in line at 6:45am and won't do much of anything until 7:30 or 8. Would be nice to have something to do.

I don't plan on bringing anything else with be except the file folder with all of my documents.

Interview is on Wednesday morning, nerves are killing me.

    Thanks!

  7. Hey Gang,

Since I submitted the DS-260 (or whatever the online version of it is, I can't keep all these forms straight) my wife has moved and the location that I said I intended to live, as well as where I want the green card and SSN sent has changed.

I called the NVC last month and they said they'd already sent my case off to Montreal and I'd have to figure it out with them.

What do I do? I know some have recommended filling out a new form and bringing it to Montreal. Others have said there's a quick and easy form I can fill out at the border when I activate the Visa and cross, but is that just for green card, or both the green card and SSN?

I want to try to keep the process in Montreal as smooth as possible, so if I can avoid bringing them any new paperwork, that would be awesome.

    Thanks in advance,

    Evan

  8. Hey!

I have no idea, I can only speak from my personal experience, but I would think that you must have a case complete and interview date assigned by the NVC before trying to reschedule an interview.

There's no calendar view on the website as far as I know. So far there haven't been any dates available, so the only thing I've seen come up is a message that says "No appointments available." Again, not sure what pops up if there is a date available.

According to what it says on the website and what I've gathered from talking to agents on the phone, if there's a date available, you can book it either through the website or the phone.

  9. Hey all, FYI the number you want to call for rescheduling in Montreal is 514.400.2591. You can also try through the visa info website: https://usvisa-info.com/

I was scheduled by the NVC for October 30th, 2013 and haven't had any luck getting an earlier date, but they recommend calling frequently and checking the website often. The great thing is that unlike the NVC, usually somebody answers right away, so you're not stuck on hold for a half hour. You'll need your passport number.

They will not have any of the information from the NVC regarding your original date, so don't be alarmed if they don't have your original appointment date.

    Good luck!

  10. Hey Sarah, we haven't gotten our date yet, but I haven't called since last Friday. I've heard people say that at this point in the month they usually don't give out any more dates. I was going to wait until the 5th to call again, unless I hear from the via-emal first, in which case I'll totally post the date right away!

  11. Hey Gang,

Sorry in advance if this has been asked already, I've tried searching this topic a few times but I haven't been able to find an answer.

Does anyone know how to go about receiving an earlier interview date in Montreal for an IR-1/ CR-1 Visa? Is it a matter of calling every day and hoping for an cancellation spot to open up? Does it ever happen? I remember reading somebody had done it recently, but I couldn't find the thread they posted in.

We just got our case complete last week, so we haven't gotten our interview package/ date yet. I imagine the number to call would be somewhere in the letter?

    Thanks!

    E
