  1. Hello Fellow VJ's

My Fiance overstayed his student visa that expired 2 weeks before our interview. We were honest and emailed the Embassy in the UK about our concern and asking for advise on what to do before our interview. They stated that as long as he was physically present in the UK he could have his interview there. On the day of the interview they did ask him about his student and they wanted to confirm that he was aware. He stated yes we asked the Embassy about this issue before & he showed the first representative that called his name. My Fiance asked if that would affect his visa in the U.S. the official said the person interviewing him should make the final decision but since we were honest about it from the beginning it shouldn't be a problem. My Fiance overstayed b/c of the interview and no other malicious reason, as well b/c this was advised. He also didn't want to renew his student visa and pay over 5000 pounds for a school he would not attend since he would come here and only intention to get married here. His visa to leave the UK was approved on Oct 18th and it expires on Feb 15th also we are thinking for that same reason; we thought normal time would be 6 months.

Will he have a problem to leave the UK at the airport, even though the US Embassy was aware they still issued the visa, and they were ok with it? We are concerned about that and he obviously has proof of the date of issuance and proof of the emails coming from the US London Embassy as proof. He bought his ticket and will leave soon! Obviously he needed sometime to prepare himself and get everything ready to leave has he has lived in the UK for more than 3 years. Can you please advise if he can leave back home to Morocco and travel from there instead of staying longer in the UK? or...

Can anyone advise in this situation?

I appreciate all the help! :) Thank you

  2. Hihi!

Thought I would throw my 2cents in here. When your fiancé(e) finally has the K-1 approved and enters the U.S. you two should wait about 2 weeks and then head to the nearest Social Security Administration to get their SSN. They say to wait 2 weeks so that your fiancé(e)'s case file has time to reach your local CIS office and be inputted into the computer system. So, getting the SSN as soon as you can will help out greatly for things like getting a driver's license and opening a bank account/joining your account.

My next piece of advice is look into getting your marriage license ASAP. My husband and I were completely in the dark with the fact that our state requires an interview that has to be scheduled a month in advance before we could receive our marriage license. Thank heavens that lady we spoke with fast tracked everything for us and we were able to interview the next day after talking to her. Once we were married we had to wait a week before we could pick up a certified copy of our marriage certificate. I went the extra mile and paid extra to have a few more certified copies to keep in our file.

You really should get married and file for AOS/EAD/AP as soon as you can after your fiancé(e) arrives. My hubby and I had a very intimate ceremony. We are lucky enough to have a friend who could officiate a nice little outdoor wedding this year and now we're planning a reception for our friends and family for our first anniversary next year. It was the most stress free way to be able to focus on the wedding and the paperwork within the 90 days.

I entered the U.S. April 6 this year which gave us until July 3 to have everything done and sent to the Chicago Lockbox by. Two weeks later filed for SSN. It took another 2 weeks to come in the mail. Our wedding was May 17. I had a local Dr. notarize my immigration physical June 8 and sent away all of the forms plus info needed for AOS/EAD/AP June 11. Everything arrived in Chicago by June 14 and we could breathe easy for a bit.

Time goes by faster than you think. Stay organized. Stay patient. It's a long process but it's worth it in the end to finally have your special person by your side!

    Best of luck!!!

Thank you so much for this information! smile.png

Our Visa Got approved and he will be traveling in Dec or Jan 2014. So he will need a S.S. # before we can get our marriage license? And the only way he can get a drivers license is with a S.S. # / I.D. What type of Identification will he need for marriage license?

He got his birth certificate translated to English in the UK... I wonder if he will have to get it translated in the U.S. or it is fine with the UK translation. He will have a copy of his Visa of course; not sure what other info is required to get this marriage license.

I-864 Question: Do you know when we file for adjustment of status do they require the affidavit of support application right away (along with I-485 (AOS) or that is after the 2 year provisional period?

    Appreciate and feedback.

    Thank you again

  3. What does this mean? We decided to get the visa sent to location instead of home... "Booked for collection from collection point" does anyone know who opted for visa to be sent to location? This is the status we are currently seeing with the tracking number sent to my Fiance...

    Thank you, smile.png

  4. Quick question. Is it necessary for my fiancee to take any of the forms or documents I submitted along with the I129F to her interview? Or should she stick to the documents list outlined on the DOS website. She is still waiting for her interview date from the U.S. Embassy in London. She will, of course, take pictures of us to establish our relationship, etc.

For those who recently had interview in London Embassy, is there anything besides what's listed on the DOS website that is advised for her to bring to interview?

    Thanks again.

I'm a female the Fiancee, and I made my Fiance take a load of stuff that were not even asked for; lol like always the super organizer and detailed person that I am... headbonk.gif All the documents we submitted to USCIS not necessary!!! New proof of relationship it's okay, they could possibly want to see it, and the other extra stuff that I would take is DS-Forms to be on the safe side, plus of course the required things listed on DOS.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Has anyone opted out to have the Visa and Passport sent to their domicile and picked up at a location instead? If you did, what was the experience in picking up and retrieving your documents? Did you find it easier and more safe?

Thanks a lot my Fiance's interview is on Friday! smile.png

    God Bless You All.

  6. Ok Fellow VJ'S our interview is on Oct, 18th just Next week....smile.png biggrin.png

There is a few things I want to understand before the interview. My Fiance is trying to register online so... If I understand correctly, he has to go to this link:

https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv and do Register for Courier and Paying for K Visa... What is Boarding Foil? And what is the difference between courier home delivery vs home delivery sorry if this is a dumb question my mind is acting loco... and I should be looking at IV19 and not IV18 correct?

    http://photos.state.gov/libraries/unitedkingdom/164203/cons-visa/IV019_fiance_appt_letter.pdf

Now the MRV receipt; I'm guessing this is an email confirmation of payment or is this something we have to print out as soon as the transaction has taken place & it is not emailed? He has no printer at home if this is the case... headbonk.gif

Thank you fellow VJ's for all the help along the way this day would not be without ya.

God Bless & I'm sure I'll have a couple of more broken record questions just because I have the jitters before interview lol

  7. Another impact of the shutdown is, once you get to the US, you will not be able to get a Social Security Number - http://www.socialsecurity.gov/shutdown/

I was due to go this week to change my SSN card from my maiden to married name (now that I have my EAD) but will not now be able to do it until the shutdown finishes.

The official line for US Embassies around the world is:

    If you need a visa

Because consular services at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world are largely funded by application fees, not annual appropriations, visa applications filed by foreigners wanting to enter the United States will continue to be processed, according to the State Department.

This is in addition to what you said I found this link in reference to shutdown on the London U.S. Embassy Website: http://london.usembassy.gov/ukpapress139.html

People might find this helpful to read.

  8. Good luck... trust you'll be fine smile.png.

Thank you so much for you good wishes. God Bless. I trust God. :)

I need to start reading up again on embassy reviews to make sure my Fiance has everything down packed and knows his way around there and what he should and shouldn't take. I think I read somewhere in a review that they have lockers in a store across the street so he can leave his personal items... not sure.

    But Gracias.

  9. The only link I put in my post was this one:

    http://ircalc.usps.com/?country=10150

If that's not working for you, then try this one:

    http://postcalc.usps.com/

    And select UK.

Actually, If this was me, I would post the document (assuming it's not expensive and you have more than one copy) by normal mail to the UK first as your interview isn't until 18 October. That usually takes 5 to 7 days for me. If it's not arrived within a week, I would then mail a further copy by an expedited method. That could save you some money. It really depends on the document you need to send.

I rather send them fast it's okay about the cost I was expecting an amount like that anyway; but I was talking about the link to pay the visa fee online not the usps link jeje :);) I was asking if you had any idea on that.

Thank you :) and God Bless

  10. Yes thank you but we just realized this :/ The form he needed just extra stuff but still Okay I will look into both thank you! This sentence doesn't click to me and you rephrase it please?

You can check the guaranteed delivery date and then remind the USPS staff that if they out in the from zip code and to post code, it will come up with a date. I mailed by 5:30 on a Friday and it got there on Tuesday.

Do you know if the website embassy website is up and running again with making the visa payment I know some people were having issues paying online?

I can't help but point out that when he sent in the DS-2001 form, that was suppose to indicate that he had ALL the documentation he needed for the interview!

However, I have mailed stuff to the UK two ways.

    USPS

Priority Mail Express International - 3 to 5 days. They may say that it is not guaranteed but if you go through here:

    http://ircalc.usps.com/?country=10150

You can check the guaranteed delivery date and then remind the USPS staff that if they out in the from zip code and to post code, it will come up with a date. I mailed by 5:30 on a Friday and it got there on Tuesday.

Costs $44.95 if you use one of their envelopes.

    UPS

Around $65. Mailed at 3:30pm on a Thursday. Got there at 9am on the Monday.

  11. He got the appt letter OCT 18th! :) Please pray for us and all goes well. I still have to send him one more document I should express this but when we express this to london like overnight what time frame are we looking at getting there anyone knows. Like 3 days ? Now I know he has to pay for the Visa now...? Before the interview I need to look for the link I know some people were having trouble paying this online. :/

  12. The last time my case was updated prior from today was Sept 9th they had not registered packet 3. Finally today it was updated and all the forms are registered and rcvd. Can anyone advise how long has it been taking fellow VJ's to rcv appointment letter after all forms have been registered. Just trying to get an idea of timeframe.

    I appreciate anyone's feedback thank you! :)

  13. It seemed the same with mine too till I called to confirm. I believe yours was received before mine I sent mine on 30th August.

I just called DOS and the guy I spoke to was more informative and clear then the previous mean lady. He stated that the first notation on Sept 9th was that they had not rcvd packet 3 and only DS-2001. According to the Embassy it was not registered yet. Then he went on to say that further notations later on that same day Sept 9th they had rcvd all forms. He stated from what I see your just now waiting for an interview date...! Hope it's true. I emailed the Embassy directly and I hope to confirm this. They are pretty good at answering back to me.

  14. I've bolded the important part. He got his interview letter on the 4th August, which is before the 1st September. Therefore he doesn't need to fill out DS-260. That said, it's when you got your Packet 3 (the initial instructions) that matters. So still safe and no DS-260 required in this case.

Thanks for clearing this up we sent out packet 3 in august and there were no instructions about DS-260. I was freaking out for a min... lol

  15. I spoke to them. You can try this number. 2024857600. Longer holding time like 8 mins they apologise for this as they are moving office. Automated service answers first just hold it will eventually give you the option to press 1 then 0.

    Hope it helps.

Thank you i'll keep trying until I'm able to pres 1 then 0. :) Thank you for your help.
