  1. Thanks to everyone that provided me with info I really appreciate it so much .... My stepson was 19 when his father and I got married. We have been married for 3 years. We are going to try and do an AOS but I hear it takes a long time. I wanted to add him to my medical because its so expensive getting the medical insurance through the school

  2. I need answers please...my step son came over to the USA in may 2013 to study. Is there anyway he could be granted a ssn just in order for me to add him to my medical benefits at work. Also how would he go about getting a driver license without a ssn. Within the next month I'm going to be working to change his status to become a permanent residence if its not approved within the two years that he have left will they automatically deport him.. Thanks in advance!!!

  3. Only marriage to a US citizen would allow him to get a green card.

His LPR father can file an I-130 for him. It's an F2b case - LPR parent petitioning an unmarried son or daughter over 21 years old. There is an 8 years wait in this category.

Your son would need to maintain his student visa or be legal in the US on some other visa for 8 years before he can get a green card through his father.

His father becoming a US citizen would shave a year off the wait.

If he goes out of status, he will not be able to get a green card. Make sure he stays legal.

Thank you so much for the info!!! Not really what I wanted to hear but thank you

  4. Hey there,

I am new to the forum, but i have been watching the forum like a ghost for quite sometime. It's extremely helpful. Anyways, this is a very specific situation that I'm trying to solve.

SO my wife is from south africa, but currently living in london, england. She has a dual citizenship because her mom was from the united kingdom. Along with her DS-230 form. She sent in her South african birth certificate, it's a long from that is handwritten, and it was issued and stamped/signed by the internal affairs of south africa. It's the exact complete original from when she was born. She also included her british certificate that states that she is a citizen of the united kingdom, but was born in south africa.

About a week ago, we got a RFE stating that we need to submit the birth certificate. All they can tell me is that we didn't submit a birth certificate from the right issuing government. I hate how the people on the phone can't be super specific. I personally have two options in which i think went wrong here:

either she needs a south african birth certificate from home affairs (as opposed to internal affairs) because on the visa website it says that if you need a birth certificate then to send a letter to home affairs. Or they got confused when she sent in the other certificate explaining her citizenship to the UK.

We called and requested a supervisor re open the file and look at it, because it could be their error, but what do you think?

I just don't get how these two original documents aren't the most legit birth certificates they've ever seen. Yes the certificate has info about her parents, and yes its signed and stamped, and it has two sides to it, one in another language, and one with it full transcribed. i could provide a picture of it if you guys want to check it out.

    Please help!

    thank you

    AJ

She's going to need an unabridged b/c , and it took us 2 months to get a copy of my husband's b/c.they are slow when it comes to documents!!! Good luck to you!!!

  5. Yes, you're right that you could've saved money but it's not ur lawyers fault.

The officer was probably concernced that you could quit or lose your job and you then wouldn't be able to financially support your husband.

That what my husband said that the guy told him, since my husband will be bringing 2 kids over, he just wants to make sure u can afford to take care of them

The NVC does not have final say on the "likely to become a public charge" question, the Embassy does. If a CO determines based on the evidence that the applicant is likely to become become a public charge, they will refuse the visa and tell the beneficiary a qualified joint sponsor is required.

    Thanks for the info

  6. My husband went to his interview this morning, he said that everything went ok. He said the guy only asked him How did we meet , and When did we get married ? My husband said that the guy informed him that I will need a co sponsor and here's the reason not because I don't make enough but because I've only been on my job for 10 months. So he gave my husband a green form and told him when they get that information , then the visa is basically approved!!

My question is how was it that the financial portion was good enough for the NVC so why is the embassy having a problem. I'm confused!! My lawyers I feel like in my opinion was a total waste of several thousands of dollars , I felt like having a lawyer actually delayed this whole process by errors that they made

  7. Sure! The console asked me few questions like the pictures of us together, chats, if i go in US already. It took 2 hours only my schedule was 630 i finish 840.Just relax don't worry theres no problem if you only meet him once we are away for 1 year and 7 months but im very happy that he will come back here next week and we both fly together. Always remember to pray God will always with us.

Wow good info!!! It's been 15 months since I've seen my husband , so this makes me feel so much better, my husband have his interview June 26th and praying all goes well! Congrats to you!!!

  8. Well Peaksy (you already know) and everybody else - my wonderful husband was APPROVED!!

Lots of crazy questions, more than he expected, but it was quick. In and out in about an hour.

It dawned on me the other day, how much responsibility this interview is for the applicant. I didn't share this with my husband because I didn't want to make him more nervous! LOL But he was thinking the same thing. It all comes down the interview regardless of how your paperwork was and everything else you did up to that point. Luckily I have a great husband who is quick on his feet!!

Thanks to everybody here and good luck!

Now we just wait for the courier to arrive and then.....POE!!

    YIPPEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

    Congrats !!!!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! :dance::dance::dance:

I want to add to the good news, my husband was also APPROVED yesterday!!!! :jest: We are so happy!!!! We will be enjoying our last summer in Barcelona and heading to the US in September!!! :dancing:

Congratulations to all the recent approvals, I feel extremely happy to be able to share the joy with you!!

Best of luck to the rest of the interviews.

    Congrats!!!!

  9. Mr. & mrs. knockse were approved today at the Brussels embassy!!!

They checked the case thoroughly to see if all documents were present, the whole procedure was explained clearly and they also told us what to do to lift the temp green card after 2 years.

The interview was done by the vice-consul of the embassy. the was no doubt about the status of the relation, but he did check the assets once more. We did the whole procedure with only assets. The interview itself took about 15 minutes and was quite pleasant. The whole embassy thing took about 1.5h to complete.

    Knockse

    Congrats

  10. Thank you, we are APPROVED!!

Interview was sooo smooth; the questions asked were the following:

When did you meet? How did the relationship develop?

    Who is your co-sponsor?

Where are you going to live?

To my husband (beneficiary): have you ever committed a crime?

That was all...it went more like a conversation than an interview. Good luck to everyone!!

    Congrats!!!!

    APPROVED!!!

The review is here -->Montreal CR-1 review

    Congrats

  11. We're taking about 500 photos (including our wedding album), plane tickets, our party favor from the wedding, skype conversations and phone records. Apparently the Buenos Aires embassy loves pictures but rarely asks for any of the other evidence...we'll see!

5 days until the first June interview!!!!!!:dance:

Sounds like you're ready!!!!! Pretty soon all this will be over!! I can't wait

  12. In March I was hoping to join you guys, now it's looking more and more like July/August :(

To answer your question: What you need and will be asked for really depends country you're from and to an extent your relationship. While some consulates may approve you after two questions and no evidence needed, another consulate might want a suitcase full of well-organized documentation.

I don't know what the Johannesburg embassy is like, but do read the reviews here on VJ from others who have interviewed there to get an impression.

I would advise to bring any and all documentation you can just to be on the safe side. I don't know if Johannesburg has certain rules, but generally, there are no set type of evidence needed. Some might use an affidavit, some might use photographs, some might use their dog's adoption papers.. Whatever you have that would make a normal person believe your relationship is real and genuine.

I appreciate this info thanks , our interview is a couple weeks away and I'm getting nervous and excited!!im so ready to be with my husband

    COUNTDOWN:

7 days till first june interview!

    Let the countdown begin!!

  13. Canada doesn't ask for relationship evidence. If they do, it's a rare. But I am taking our joint bank account statements, titles to our vehicles, car insurance and a copy of the deed to the house. Also I printed out a few pages of phone records showing phone calls to and from each other everyday, and the weekly calls I make to his parents.

If you have used skype for your entire relationship, it will go back to the beginning.

Thank you so much for the info

  14. LOL I enjoyed my sleep after getting our interview date. Now I'm sleepless again because we leave for Montreal in three days. I've gone over our paperwork for the bazillionth time to make sure everything is in order.

Good luck to you!! I didn't realize how exhausting it was calling the NVC everyday until after we got our interview date :)

We're crossing by land, very convenient for us!

I know a few that have bought their tickets in advance, for a week or two weeks after the interview, and also got insurance on them. If they had to, they could change the dates.

  15. Hey Guys are you sleeping? What is going on with the June interviews???????????????????? are you guys ready?

    Lol they're sleeping lol.

I'm so ready to get this over with, my husband and kids had their medical done and he said that it was expensive lol

I'm in the process of trying to get a ticket so that I could fly out to be with him, but geeez those tickets are expensive!! I really want to be there with my husband even though alot of people are telling me that they probably won't let me in!!!
