  1. I send you my congratulations & best wishes! :energetic: :dancing:

oh WOW!!!! Thats great news!!! Congrats you and him!! When will he be here?

I noticed your timeline...Will you be flying NorthAmerican? Our flight leaves JFK on the same date at 3:00pm. If so, we will be sure to look for you!

  2. Thanks Everyone,

I can say education of people no matter what their skin tone is,usually is a huge task. I am one that realizes that you are only scared of what you don't know and ignorant of what you won't learn.

If everyone would only open their minds, they would find their hearts full of joy. BUTTTTT as we all know that doesn't always happen in the real world.

I can assure Nigerians I will correct some peoples minds about Nigeria, some have already changed since I return unharmed and feeling at peace with all life has to offer and flashing photos of our good times.

Some are even jealious because I was not afraid to travel alone..........crazy maybe but not afraid LOL.

I can only recomend to those jealious ones to buy a ticket and discover AFRICA............any part just do it !

No there werent Lions and Tigers in Lagos, but you can do all your holiday shopping from the front seat of your car !........

If anyone one has suggestions what else to see in Asaba/Lagos/Festac/Warri areas I would be interested for our next trip planning.

"No there werent Lions and Tigers in Lagos, but you can do all your holiday shopping from the front seat of your car !........"

LOL! True... You gotta love the hawkers that peddle their wares  I can attest to all that you have mentioned. Like you, I made my first trek alone over three years ago, stayed for three months (and everyone thought I was insane  hummmm... On second thought maybe they were just 'player hating'). When friends, and aquaintances saw the hours of video footage, and photos which displayed me having the time of my life, I think they all had a rethink.

I'm glad you had an enjoyable stay! It's in the Nigerian culture to be hospitable. As a visitor, you can't help but feel a bit embarrassed because practically everyone you come in contact with will always treat you like royalty.

You have gathered precious memories that you will add to your book of life. Now thats.......Priceless!

  3. for phone cards I us www.bluephonecards.com continental card as they offer call detail, pinless dialing, and can be purchased in $5 increments with no surcharge. They also take paypal. For $5 I get 30 minutes to Nigeria cell phone. Best deal I have found. I hope that helps you out.

VoipCheap.com has excellent rates, since the computer does the actual dialing. For $2.00 (USD) you get about one hour talk time. (Yes, with wonderful clarity too!)

All call logs are available to access & print once you log onto your account. ;)

  4. I hope all of you have a good weekend :dance::dance:

To the VJ dependents, VJ anonymous, VJ addicts, and VJ Lurkers....... I luv ya all :luv: , eventhough I don't stop by as much as I used to. I still think about everyone that went through alongside me in the journey, and those of you whom I offered moral and/or emotional support to, and viz-a-viz.

I love hearing all about the updates!

    Nuf said..........

  5. The movie is really good, but the book is ALOT better. The ending in the movie is about the half-way point of the book. So if you get a chance, go and pick it up..... its a page turner. Dont read it at night as it might keep you up not wanting to stop. The hardest part is to seperate what is fact and what is fiction. Some of the characters are real, some are not, but the author blends them together into a great story with enough non-fiction to keep you guessing as to what is fiction and vise-versa.

But I agree 100%, Forrest Witaker did an excellent job! My wife said he nailed the Ugandan accent and his Kiswahili was pretty good also. It was all shot on location so she loved that as it was like taking a drive down some of the streets of Kampala in some of the scenes. Even the hotel she used to work at was one of the locations they shot the film at.

O.K. this is confirmation... (You are the third person to mention that the book is captivating, and better than the movie.) Thanks for the heads up, because I am notorious for getting engrossed in a well written piece(It's just so hard to tear yourself away when you have a curious mind  . "Just one more page... I gotta see what's going to happen next.... Just one more page." You know how it is when you start reading in the bed at 11PM, then you look at the clock to discover it is 3AM, and you got to rise and shine by 6AM. :sleepy:

I agree, deciphering the factual scenes from the fiction is a bit difficult. One particular scene that stands out in my mind is when the younger son of one of Amin's wives stood by helplessly viewing his mother lying dismembered on the table in the hospital room. I researched this, and some say Amin personally hacked & butchered her in the presence of her son to make an example, while others state that he ordered the killing. In any case I thought it bizarre that the limbs were reattached backward... However, in an effort to follow proper burial laws/customs, it was necessary to reattach the limbs. (Ugh, talk about gruesome & grizzly )

I even came across an article which stated that after capturing military leaders, and decaptiating them. He kept his trophies (human heads) in the State house freezer. Then at a later time he would request the main dining table to be set, (in which all the heads would be placed at the table). Suppossedly he would ingest a bit of the flesh from each, laugh and talk to them.. Fiction or non-fiction

However, It's good to hear that your wife, whom is a native to the land gives F.W. the big . Now, if she said that his accent & Kiswahili was impeccable... That's one good indication that he really played his role well! I know it brought a smile to her face, (and to her heart) to view the familiar places!

Alright, leave this place...Destination Amazon! Gotta get the book nowwww!

  6. I just saw it. It was fabulous and FW deserves the Oscar!

Heck Yeah! This is F.W.'s best performances yet! He was a featured guest on Oprah last month, and during the interview he stated that he spent several months on location, immersed in the culture just to study the linguistics, and develop his accent.

In my opinion, the true hero was the Ugandan doctor that willing gave up his life so that the rest of the world could hear the 'real' story. (All for the sake of liberation of his fellow kinsmen, and the future generations to come. )

I tell ya the end scenes had my heart racing as I sat on the edge of my seat in suspense!

Anyone contemplating going to see this movie will not be disappointed... A few dollars well spent

  7. My honey, and I got the opportunity to check out, The Last King of Scotland, starring Forrest Whitaker. Whitaker stepped into the role of the late Ugandan dictatorial ruler, Idi Amin. The movie was rivetting, and powerful. As I previously mentioned on another forum, if F.W. is not the nominee & winner of an Oscar....Something fishy is going on <_<

Anyone else around here viewed it yet? If so, I'm interested in hearing your synopsis.

  8. Stephen and I are still around but don't take the time to post much unless we feel our reply can really add some helpful information to the thread. And I dont' usually post any advice to anyone that is dealing with K-1 or K-3 until the petition gets approved and forwarded to the embassy. The reason---IMBRA (whatever that is). I didn't have to deal with that so I know nothing about it. It just shows that not only does the petitioner and beneficiary's lives change once AOS is given, but sometimes the immigration journey itself changes.

I do come to the Sub-Saharan forum about once or twice a week to check on things here. I may not be posting but I am reading to check for any news or for questions that I feel I could help with. The main reason that I dont' post very often is because I LOVE to spend time with my husband. We were apart for long enough and VJ got a lot of my time and energy during those days. Now since we are together, I choose to spend more time with him and less time with VJ. It's just where my priority is at. I am very grateful for VJ and the help we received from the people here. I check the forum and will definitely speak up if someone really needs my help but most of the time, by the time I see the posts, someone else has already given a great answer.

And, by the way, I dont' remember ever posting that I am pregnant because I'm not. Maybe you got us confused with Mandolinv and her husband. She posted back in July or August that they are expecting a baby. But Stephen and I arent' expecting one yet. Just wanted to clear that up.

I'm glad that the advice I had given you previously was helpful to you. Have a great day!

    Molly

 That goes ditto for me. I had to read up on this IMBRA issue (Totally unfamiliar... )

Just happy to finally enjoy a state of normalcy that comes along with sharing life together as a married couple ;) . Like Jaz said, this board/site is 'cyclic' in every affectation of the word.

    Wishing everyone the very best!

    Opti,

BTW Jideamericanprincess AKA Livi's novel entitled, "If God is my lover...Then why is my bed so cold?" hits the bookstores next month!

  10. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

    I'm so ecstatic :energetic: !!!!

It's so good to hear about the recent approvals! (I know how it feels to be on the battlefield for an extended time period).

It's just so nice to know that people in your camp, that had been on the journey for awhile, are finally seeing their hard work come to a season of fruition.

I'm at a loss of words..........Let my actions speak for me now!

    :dance: :energetic: :goofy::luv:

    God Bless you

First you, then Peggy. Now, we are going to still pray and wait for All4Kweku! (Girl, you are up next! )

  11. ALL PRAISES DUE TO GOD ABOVE!!!!!!

    :dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing:

It's been a looong time coming, and overdeserved, you know that.

I am so happy for you Peggy!!!! :crying: (tears of joy & happiness).

I know your road was rough and seldomly travelled by the masses, but this is a prime example of the phrase, "The race is not given to the swiftest, or the... but he who endureth till the end."

I only pray that your saga can serve as inspiration, and provide a sense of hope to others whom are going through a similiar situation.

You tell me God ain't good!!!! :luv::luv::luv: At times he makes us wait, and puts us through the test, yet he never forgets us. All of your stress and turmoil was not in vain..

May God be Glorified forevermore in your lives! (As it was by his mighty hand that you, Watson & Sweetie are the victorious ones!:yes: )

Please, by all means, after you come down off of your shock, come back and share your sweet success story with us.

Gotta run and get the box of Kleenex tissue... Can't stop :crying::crying::crying::crying: God is SOOOO FAITHFUL!!!!

    God Bless you guys!!!!!

  12. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

You go gyrl!:lol: (I take my hat off to you... You are far more woman than me-This little 7yr old man is all the child we will ever need!! Of course hubby wants a daughter, but sorry, as far as I am concerned the oven is shut down---No more bisquits for me... I pop BC pills in my mouth religiously...Like skittles candies! :jest:

Glad to hear everything is going well! I pop in periodically and read the board, but life is yet so hectic, that by the end of the day, I'm so exhausted tto the point, that the computer is the last thing I want to see :hehe::rolleyes:

Anyway, take care. Wishing you the best!

BTW, have you guys contemplated and/or decided on baby names?
