  1. Hi everyone, I came here with K1visa, I filed my AOS and waited for my EAD to apply for SSN. (I applied for my SSN after my I94 expiration that's why i waited for my EAD to present to SSA.)

I applied my SSN on June 1 yet (42 days waiting), called my local SSA office twice and said my SSN application is still pending in USCIS.

Anyone who had this issue? I'm getting frustrated from waiting, can't get my nursing license without my SSN.

  2. i dont know about marrying in church after a divorce, but i think they allow it in some cicumstances, the best way to know is to contact your local parish (that's what we did) and about the first communion, confirmation and even sacrament of penance, im not quite sure, but the priest my fiance talked to said it's okay, we just have to present our newly issued baptismal certificates.. it'' be best if you contact the parish you belong to before your fiance flies to US so that you know what you need.. in our case the US priest asked my parents to sign an affidavit with the signature of my local parish priest with seal..

  3. at least your fiance has told you they are moving before your arrival. my mom sent me to school one day and forgot to tell me she was moving and i got home to an empty house... i think thats why i have issues now

i'd freak out if this happens to me? yeah, good thing he told me he is moving or else i would end up going to his parent's house without him there. God knows if he wants to run away from me hahaha!

  4. Script:

USCIS says: Mr Kenny, we are not going to renew your wife's greencard...

Kenny Says; why is that sir.

USCIS Says; Mr Kenny, the process is clear, you must maintain a current address with USCIS and you failed to do that..

Kenny Says; well, my wife put the address on the I-94, because we were told by a VJ member, that was ok...

USCIS says; Mr Kenny, that is not the Published Process.. You must submit the AR-11 as defined in the instructions...

How sad would any of us feel if our Spouses were taken away from any of us due to a simple oversight or misunderstand... I would be devastated.. Taking 2 minutes to complete the AR-11 per the instructions, is simple thing to do and is according to the process defined by the USCIS...

That is the advise that VJ'rs should give...

Hi kennym thank you so much for the concern, if i were to think also, i would have let my fiance file for the change of address also, but he called USCIS today and told them about our situation, they said we dont have to file for AR-11, and we can get through the POE without any problem..

this whole process sure is a roller coaster ride.. this is why i am happy im in VJ where people help each other... so this is another lesson learned,so the next time another member encounter a situation like mine, we can give our proper advice too... thank you so much everybody!

  5. Okay.

This link refers to the INS; the legal guidance appears to have been written in 2003 or shortly thereafter. The requirement that an alien register their address with USCIS springs from Section 262(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. I looked at 262(a) and the language has not been modified since this attorney wrote this piece. So, while he refers to the INS, the legal interpretation of this section of code from the INA still stands. I have posted pertinent snippets from his article.

    http://www.americanlaw.com/alienreg.html

"In addition to special registration procedures, the INS is also enforcing a previously-existing requirement that all aliens in the United States notify the INS of a change of address within 10 days. These general registration procedures apply to all aliens, with only limited exceptions."

"Under the existing regulations at 8 CFR §264.1(a), the INS registers entering nonimmigrants using Form I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record). Therefore, aliens who are issued Form I-94 are not required to be registered again unless their address changes subsequent to the issuance of Form I-94."

thank you so much Rebecca for your sensible insights of the process, everyone had a point here, my fiance called USCIS today just to make sure, and you are right, there is no need to report the new address... i can just write the new adress on my I94... thank you so much for your intelligent inputs :)

  6. Hi everyone! I will be leaving 2weeks from now with a K1 visa in my hand (fiance will come home to PH for few days to pick me up).

He is moving from his parents' house to an apartment this week. So our problem is we declared on the DS156 that I will stay on the address of his parents however with my fiance's recent move, of course i will stay at his apartment. My problem is, i will be completing the I94 before my POE and I have to state there where i will stay, and also it might be asked when i go through the immigration at my POE. The immigration will see the discrepancy of the addresses.

What is the best way to solve this problem anyone?

    Thank you very much.

  7. wow rencor and m_a has totally different experience, i wish i would be able to get through the immigration as fast as m_a, my fiance decided to come home to PI for just couple of days to pick me up... and we decided to allot 5 hours in detroit (just to make sure) 5 hours wont be too much of a hassle bec iwill be with him... we'd probably just enjoy waiting (what's couple of hours to wait compared to the long depressing months of the journey for all of us anyway) thank you for those who replied, and im happy i will not be alone in NC thank you again!

  8. i had my middle name corrected also, i applied for nbi clearance a month before my interview and few days before my interview i learned i have to get a clearance with AKA with my wrongly spelled middle name (thanks to kenshaq).. i also have a hit that's why a i went to get a new clearance with AKA a day before my interview, i presented my interview confirmation and they released my new clearance 2-3 hours after... the pre screener and CO did not ask for anything, just make sure ur NSO BC has that court order printed on the side and your nbi with AKA :)

  9. This is the only thing i can tell you, you have put yourself in this situation darren. In the first place, it was you who offered money to the family. It was you who provided your young girl financial support every month. i am no saying that it is bad, however you came to their lives giving out the wrong notion that you are papa santa claus who will raise them up from poverty. and now bec of your money, you think you can control their lives and you can dictate them how they are going to live their lives

  10. Hi everyone, my k1 visa is approved and I just need to pick up my visa in MNL and have my CFO seminar this week. That's the good news.

However, I went to my OB-GYNE yesterday to have my check up and the results are not good. My ovarian cyst came back (I had it removed through surgery when I was 20yo, I am now 25yo). I was advised then by my OB to get pregnant, but of course I am not married yet and my fiance and I were not considering marriage yet at that time because for one we were still young, I am still in school and we just want to take things one at a time.

Now, that we found out that my cyst came back (this is a kind of cyst that has a very high recurrence, and the size of my cyst now is big enough to not to be controlled by just medication); my OB gave me an ultimatum of 6 mos to get pregnant, if not I have to go for surgery again. She also outrightly warned me if we do not try getting pregnant now, there would be a big possibility that I wouldnt bear a child anymore.

Okay the dilemma is, my fiance and I are not really considering having a baby in 3 to 5 years for these reasons: we believe that marriage is not just centered upon having children but also being together as a couple, we want to make up our lost time together (being in a 7-year long distance relationship has been too hard to handle, and this is our time to be together just the two of us), me moving to the states will entail a need for me to adjust big time (physically, emotionally, socially and professionally and having a child this soon will be a big responsibility on our part), and lastly, he said he is okay if we can't bear a child (we started discussing this when I had my first ovarian surgery, but of course I, as a woman would still in a way want to give my husband a child).

So, anyone could give me a piece about our situation? I know I can get a good piece of advice from those who are ahead of us in this journey of married life.

    Thank you so much

  11. for the OP if your dream wedding is simple your fiance has nothing to worry about the expenses

    tips:

    1. if you want a catholic wedding, contact the local parish of your fiance and make arrangements of a very simple wedding (we are doing that right now, before i fly to US, we disclosed that we have to marry in 90 days upon my arrival, we just wanted to be blessed in the church, accept the sacrament of matrimony within the blessing of the Holy Eucharist, so no choir, no entourage, just his immediate family members will be there so that's less the invitation, after we just plan to have lunch at a local restaurant, or even just have bbq or cook something at home, just be sure you ask your fiance's local parish the things u need for the ceremony like baptismal cert., pre-cana (we did our pre cana here in PI, sacrament of confirmation etc)

    2. if you want a wedding dress, you can have it made before leaving PI, if u want it custom made... but there are good selection of wedding dress in divisoria or even in local bridal shops, very cheap ones, u can evan have one for the price of $50 or less!

well, that's the only thing i can suggest bec those are the only two thing i dreamt of my wedding.. i want to have the blessing in the rite of matrimony, very small one with few counted guests (well i just hoped my parents would be there, but their love and blessing to our marriage is enough), i never wanted a big reception, just simple meal after the wedding..

my husband-to-be is not that too inclined of having a fancy wedding, but he told me, if i want the wedding my way, i have to go for it (he has no prob with my expenses for the wedding bec he knows im stingy like him also!) make sure your fiance knows what u want for the wedding..

  12. that's right.. i did mine 2 years ago, and i went straight to my local civil registrar, paid the processing fee just about over a thousand (cant really remember well now).. waited for like 3mos.. then the registrar instructed me to go to NSO main to submit the court orders, then after 3 weeks or so i went back to NSO to get the corrected birth cert.. i presented the NSO Birth cert and photocopy of the court order when i applied for my passport
