    Thanks for the update KASH2011!

Had my ceremony yesterday and it was done pretty quick started at 9:45AM and ending about 11:00AM!

However, applying for my passport at the SF Passport Agency was pretty crazy! Even with an appt I waited for about 3 hours and all in all my passport ended up costing me $210 dollars! But my process with USCIS is done and I will be getting my passport sometime next week before my trip back to Canada for Xmas!

Good luck to all. For SF I know that the 5 months processing time was true from date of application sent to oath date!!

    Heres to a great 2015!

  2. Congratulations, I am also at San Francisco office and i am applying for N-400, how was your experience with the officer, and how long did it take?, i am applying based on marriage 3 years.

And which office did you go for the Biometrics walk-ins, cause i want to do a walk-in too?

    Thanks

    Albadani,

here is the post I made after my interview:

I had my interview on Friday 11/07 at the San Francisco field office. Thought I'd share my experience.

Got there at 1PM, interview was at 1:45PM. The room was very full with people on their phones even though there are signs everyone that we are not allowed on your phone. I sat in the chair outside my assigned area, and waited, and waited, and waited. I was almost the last one there when they called me in at 2:45PM, an hour after my scheduled interview time.

The immigration officer sat me down had me take the oath, and started to go through my paperwork. She asked if my husband, who is American by birth, was there with me. I answered No, and she said that okay she had to go through our paperwork and ensure that this was a bonafide marriage. I was a little shocked as I thought that they had already established that in the last 2 status changes when I got my green card, and when I got my permanent green card. However, I answered her questions, she asked about trips, and car loans together, banking, property ownership. I told her what we had in both our names and told her that we submitted these things earlier in the process. She asked me if I have documentation of us going out of the country for the upcoming Christmas. I told her I don't have anything printed showing our tickets, but I can show her them on my phone, she said no it has to be a hard copy. She seemed very abrupt and short with me. I know I had nothing to hide so just continued to answer her questions and hope for the best...because I know I didnt bring any new pictures or paperwork with me so what I had in the file was what I had. Then she went on to tell me that they got some new program and she wasn't sure how it exactly worked, and got me to sign a piece of paper with all my information on it saying it was correct, which she was suppose to do earlier, but she said she forgot.

She went over all the questions that I answered and asked about if we had to fight a war against Canada if I would fight for the US if they asked me to? I said yes, and we continued on.

Then we went onto the English/civics test. They asked me to read, "What state has the most people?" Then I had to write California has the most people.

Then she asked me the following 6 questions which I got right so I was able to stop after 6.

    1. What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?

    2. Who is in charge of the executive branch?

    3. What is one reason colonists came to America?

    4. During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

    5. Name one branch or part of the government.

    6. If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

After I passed, she said we were done, and if I had any questions. I said that "Aren't I suppose to get a sheet when we are done stating my results?"

She said oh yeah, I almost forgot you are the last one of the day and I am trying to get out of here for the weekend. So then she took the sheet out check marked that I passed the civics and English test, and the "Congratulations your application is recommended for approval," and told me I should get something in the mail in 30-60 days, and walked me out of the office.

So all in all, thank goodness for this forum as it helped me to know the process, and that I am suppose to get that piece of paper at the end, or else I would have walked out not knowing anything till I received something in the mail. So if you are going without your US citizen and your application is based on marriage I would recommend bringing some recent photographs, and if you took any trips in the last couple years to bring those, and leases, car loans, etc.

Although I did pass and get recommended without having these, it would have made things less stressful for sure.

But, at least I passed and will hopefully be having my oath ceremony come the new year and be done dealing with USCIS!! Good Luck to everyone in their upcoming interviews...Happy Monday!

  3. Yup. Those are the only documents you need to bring.

Apparently, the form that we were given after the interview is different in format to the one you'd find at Post office or other centers. I actually had it downloaded and filled out on my Mac, too and I can confirm that the one that you downloaded off the site is the one that you need at the application center.

As things stand, you're good to go for an appointment after 12.

I'd also advise you to make color copies of your certificate. The place where I had it photocipied at had an awesome paper and the quality turned out better than the actual certificate!

So you're getting expedited PP then? I applied for a regular one. Hopefully it'll arrive before Christmas albeit I don't have a trip planned till February :)

    Sounds like a good idea.

Yes expedited at a passport agency. There are only 25 passport agencies in the ENTIRE US that can issue passports same day or within a 10 day period. Getting your passport expedited regularly anywhere else they can only guarantee that you get it within 3 weeks.

Thanks why I have to go to the SF Passport Agency to get it processed quicker, and of course pay the expedited fee.

So excited that come Christmas I will be done with dealing with USCIS!

  4. Hey, How's it going? Sorry. I thought we had this agreement on June 2014 thread and I promptly posted my experience on that thread around 11:30 yesterday.

Anyway, I got there around 9. That is Perfect timing. Its a complete waste of time to get there early. There are no lines. Once you get there, you'll be asked to go to lower level hall while your relatives will be asked to take their seats upstairs.

You'll need to submit your GC and other immigration documents. There will be immigration officers (3-4) that will take your Oath letter, and then take your GC (like a movie theater employee does when a new movie is released) and you'll be directed to your seating area.

The process started around 9:50 or so any I was out by 10:50. They played the national anthem, played Obama's message, and all the usual stuff followed by Oath.

I didn't stay around to apply for my passport because there was a 'big' queue. I ended up going to a local city office that didn't need any appointments for it. But bear in mind, the passport application is slightly different. So you'll need to fill out a new one.

It kinda sucked that it rained a lot but it had no effect on my parade as it was quite an awesome day yesterday :D

What other immigration documents do you have to bring? I was planning on just bringing my green card and the oath letter? Anything else.

And what do you mean I need to fill out a new passport application? I filled it out with the online form online on the state website for applying for a passport where you type your answers and they create the passport form for you?

I have to go to the SF passport office because I need to get it in less than 2 weeks, and if I go to the local post office or other agency the soonest I can get it is 2-3 weeks and I will be travelling on Dec 23rd so I need to get it before then.

  6. Yup. You shall see me post on here sometime in the afternoon. I plan on applying for my passport right after Oath. If that didn't work out (due to long queue), I'll be making a stop at SS office in Berkeley followed by a trip to my local city office to apply for my passport. I need my passport by the end of the year myself.

Happy Thanksgiving! Aren't we lucky/blessed that there's no such thing as "crappy" weather? :D

    Hi aimar10,

Would you mind sharing your experience at the oath ceremony, more specifically the timing of the start of the ceremony and when you left the theater?

    Thanks so much, and CONGRATS!

  7. Greeneyez, 2 pm will be fine. Based on my knowledge, you'll be out by 11:30 or so. You have no reason to wait to apply for passport until you return back.

Actually, I have my Oath scheduled for the 2nd. Wait till next Tuesday and I'll let you know lol

    Hi aimar10,

Well maybe I will make the appointment for 1PM then, and if you could let me know next week what your experience was like and what time you got out, then if need be I will change it to a later date, but I still might schedule a 2PM appointment just in case.

My reasoning to apply when I come back was because I do not what to pay the extra $60 dollar expedited fee, and deal with going in person to the passport agency in SF. It sucks because I have a place where I could submit my passport paperwork in the same building that I work in, so if I had the oath date let's say Dec 2nd or Jan 14th I could just pay the regular fee, and submit the passport application while I am at work instead of going all the way into the city to deal with it, that is why I am trying to get the passport application in on Dec 10th while I am already in Oakland for the oath ceremony.

Please Please let me know about your experience in regards to time I would realllly appreciate it.

    Thanks so much!

  8. Hi Everyone!

Got my letter in the mail, and my oath ceremony is scheduled for Dec.10th at 9:15AM....I knew it was gonna get scheduled in December although I was hoping for Jan 14th to make things a little easier in terms of applying for my passport, but it will be nice to have it all completed before the New Year so that's good.

I will be going out of country 12/23, so I guess I will have to make appointment at the San Francisco Passport agency to get my passport within 5 business days. Does anyone who has had their ceremony in SF know the approximate time it will be over? I was hoping to make a passport appt same day about 2PM?

Also, any one have thoughts on not getting passport until I come back from Canada, and come back through the US with my Canadian passport and Certificate of Naturalization? Has anyone actually done this, or should I just suck up the extra cost and hassle and get my passport through the agency?

Really appreciate everyone's feedback. Also, can someone plz update my oath date on the timeline.

    Thanks!

  9. Congratulations Greeneyez. I'm quite sure you will get scheduled for Oath for Dec 10th (if not Dec 2nd).

P.S. I've already been placed in queue (had my interview on 23rd) and I'm currently waiting for mine, too. I was hoping to get naturalized on the 19th but it seems like it'll be on the 2nd or 10th next month!

    Hi aimar10,

Yes I was thinking it would probably be December 10th, but I am hoping that maybe I can get scheduled for January 14th as I will be going back to Canada over the Christmas holidays, so getting an American passport 2 weeks before Christmas will be very hectic and not to mention expensive, but we will see I guess when I am scheduled.

I did not see your name on the timeline to see your schedule of when you filed, and all the events up until then. Would you mind sharing your dates and we can add to the tracker?

So it has been over 2 weeks since your interview and you still have not received anything in the mail...Did your status change online saying that you have been scheduled?

I would like to hear from you when you do get your notice so that I can compare it with mine..Appreciate it.

****Also, is anyone having issues with the new USCIS website? I am trying to go into my account and it keeps giving me error message, and keeps showing as loading, so I just went into the USCIS and did check status instead***

    Appreciate everyone's feedback.

  11. Hi Everyone!!

Hope you all had a great weekend! I received my letter in the mail on Friday, October 3rd.

My interview date is on Friday, November 7th!! Could someone please update the timeline for me, I don't want to screw up the beautiful formatting!!

Very excited that the process is moving along...and hope to get scheduled for the oath in the first 2 weeks of December since I will be traveling outside of the country over Christmas!

Glad to see other people are also getting scheduled! GO GIANTS!!!

  12. Well low and behold when I thought that I was going to have to wait another month to be scheduled I got the text/email notification at 5:30PM today stating that I have been scheduled for interview!!! Yay...so happy!! Hopefully will get my letter in the mail by the end of the week letting me know my interview date! If someone could kindly update the timeline for me I would greatly appreciate it!

Everyone who's waiting..be patient it'll come when you figure it's gonna be a long haul! GOOD LUCK!!!

  13. Not sure how all of you are feeling but I was expecting to get my interview scheduled notice by now. It is frustrating. I feel like California is so slow to process these things....I keep checking every day thinking maybe they forgot to e-mail me, but no movement. All I can hope for now is that I get scheduled before my two month date of getting put into line which would be 10/04/14.....

    Here's hoping....

  14. HairyRandy...

I would wait. The USCIS does not answer any questions until you have been in the N-400 process for at least 90 days without any movement. Plus I have seen in this forum and others they do not begin to issue your InLine notice until a month before your 3 years anniversary at the very soonest. They do this to ensure that you have your interview after your 3 or 5 year anniversary.

I am sure your notice is coming in the next week...and if not in a week then 2 weeks for sure!

    Good Luck!!

  15. Guys, I'm not even getting my inline notice while others have moved on so much! Is there anything that I can do to make it faster? I've received the yellow letter FYI.

    Vahid...

Have you signed into your account on USCIS website? If you sign in there and add your NBC Receipt number it will show you what stage you are in, and I am pretty sure if you got your Yellow letter you are probably already In line for your interview. If you signed up for email alerts with your application it will only email/send update when they receive and process. After that you need to make an account online with USCIS. I submitted 07/08...and got put in line on 08/04....got yellow letter and still waiting to be scheduled for interview..I think we have similar timelines.

Here is the website page where you can register and make your accout:

  16. Sorry for my late post....but few days after my grueling interview last aug.14...I received an update from uscis last Aug.18 that im in cue for my oath taking. :)

was wondering how long did you guys get the oath date in the mail after this update. Thanks!!!

    Hi Friscoflip,

I've been looking for someone who was in the N-400 process with the San Francisco field office to compare timelines and also ask about the interview experience. May I ask why the interview was so grueling?? Does this office just have tough IO's or what was it that made it so tough?

I am hoping to interview sometime in October, and was wondering if you wouldnt mind sharing your experience. Congrats on passing though and awaiting an oath ceremony I really hope that everything works out for me as I have a job on the line that requires me to be a US citizen and I need to be before the end of the year to make sure everything works out.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much

  17. Hi Everyone,

Got my letter in the mail regarding that they have accepted my application on 07/19.

Got my letter in the mail on 07/26/14 that my biometrics were scheduled for 08/14/2014, but did an early walk-in at the San Francisco office with no problems, yesterday 07/30/14. So I am assuming that the interview will probably be sometime in September as I don't reach my official 3 years as a permanent resident until the end of August. Seems like it is moving relatively quickly. Could someone please update my timeline. Thx so much!
