  1. Thanks Shema758. My POE went flawlessly. I got to the states by Friday morning, and in the Immigration Hall of JFK, an agent took my package and directed me to a room for processing, which was really a short affair. He fingerprinted me and made me sign the application for the green card. I did, however, have to speak up to say that the address that was listed on the sealed envelope was old and I gave them a new one to which my green card should be sent. They told me to expect it in 6 weeks.

Yesterday I went to the Social Security Administration's office in my town and applied for my SSN. I went back this morning to pick up a printout letter with the number. I then used this letter, along with two documents proving my address, to get my provisional drivers licence at the DMV this afternoon.

It's all happened very quickly, but I'm happy because I can't wait anymore to get my life off of pause.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting. Fingers crossed for interview letters being received soon.

Happy holidays to those already in the states!

  2. Guys, I just wanted to tell you all that I picked up my package at DHL this afternoon, at exactly 4:57 PM (three minutes before they closed).! It took just two days to get my visa since it was issued. I never expected I'd be out of here only four days after my interview. I booked my flight, which leaves to NYC tomorrow morning. I've set like six alarms to make sure I wake up. (My flight is at 6 am.)

I'll still be lurking around from time to time, to see how the rest of the gang is keeping on. But things are moving along, and what was once a dream has now finally become a reality. You all will get to share the feeling of finally becoming a Permanent Resident of the USA! Woohoo!

All the best to all my VJ crew!

  3. So happy for you!! Let the Inexplicable, Endless Screaming From Jamaica begin!

LOL. That's gonna happen once DHL delivers the package to me. I'm still waiting on the waybill number. I'm looking at your timeline, and DAY 60? Whaaaaaaaa? Perhaps you should be screaming too, but for a different reason. Lol. At least it's progressing, so that's where the good news is. :)

  4. WOOOHOOO

I bet you've been jumping up and down all evening and doing the happy dance!! hehehe

    Congratulations!!

javisakid my congratssss.so happy for you...it was so fast for us to be issued

Thanks my friends. I'm hoping it will be ready for pickup tomorrow. I'm checking for the DHL waybill number to be available. I'm still surprised at how super quick it was. I hope it will be the same for everyone else!

  5. OMG EVERYBODY!!!

I just checked the CEAC status and it says ISSUED!!! My visa has been printed. Literally one day after. Wow!

Immigrant Visa Case Number: KNG2007------ 01 KNG

    Case Creation Date: 31-Jan-2007

    Status Updated Date: 19-Nov-2013

Your visa has been printed. Depending on local procedures at the location where you were interviewed, your visa will be mailed or available for pickup soon. If there are further questions, or if we need updated contact information, you will be contacted.

  6. I just checked my CEAC case status and it says:

    Administrative Processing - updated 19/11/2013

Your visa case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. This processing can take several weeks. Please follow any instructions provided by the Consular Officer at the time of your interview. If further information is needed, you will be contacted. If your visa application is approved, it will be processed and mailed/available within two business days.

I'm hoping the "several weeks" part doesn't happen. Did you guys' status say that after the interview too?

  7. @ javisakid So glad you got through ok . They did not ask for the updated tax records from the petitioner in my case either and

I left it alone.I got my package delivered to me in 8 business days/10 week days .

LOL yea like me, I see you did not become a victim of the hustle and basically set your own rategood.gif .

Btw you always manage to crack me up,you might just be the only one who with all the anxiety thats going on found the time to ask

    the "beautiful lady" her name.

I'm drinking some Appleton rum right now. Today is DAY ONE. My mother even started making plans for me to take up breadfruit, sprat and ackee. I'm like, lawd cool it an wait till di ting reach nuh? Lol.

  8. WOW what great news!!! congrats JaVisaKid!!!! I was holding my breath all this time. I wish you all the best and welcome smile.png to USA. You know that my wait for some strange reason was really long but I think that it was an exception because West and all the other Jamaican got through pretty fast. Plan for 2 weeks.

Now you are really JA! Visa Kid lol cuz u Green up

Oh thanks so much. When my package comes you'll hear about it on RJR NEWS, or even CNN! The headline: Inexplicable, Endless Screaming From Jamaica Heard Worldwide.

  9. LMAOrofl.gif...... ummmm yea,did you notice I did not tell you how much they "claim" it cost to keep the stuff (the guys outside the embassy).Right,so like I said "I gave the guy $300" look, they are going to try to get you to pay more, its their hustle so I was prepared for the game.I'm sure there are other persons who will be charged more than $500.

ANYWAY we are all here waiting your report.ClockWatch2.gif

The hustlers outside the embassy wanted to charge me $500 for the 25 seconds I spent calling my taxi driver. I was like don't try to extort me in front of these police officers. I gave the woman $100 and told her to enjoy her day.

  10. So, I'm back from the interview. It was shorter than I thought it would be.

My appointment was at 7. I got there at 6:45 and I was the first one who was called to the window. "Good/bad," I wondered. You know the usual. One window where they collected the documents: passport, photo, medical and, police record. They did not ask me for the no-impediment document but I had to sign two copies of something saying I promise not to get married before I enter the states. They asked me who my petitioner was and then I went to sit again to wait. (The lady was beautiful and, trying to be conversational, I asked her for her name but she says "for security reasons I can't tell you." Ouch!)

An hour after, at exactly 8, the consular officers came to the counters and I was called first again. I was put under oath and had to swear to tell the truth. I was slightly nervous during the interview because there was an issue with the spelling of my mother's name on the marriage certificate which documented why her surname is now different from what was on my birth certificate.

He kept typing at the computer and glancing at the screen, which kept making me curious about what he was seeing, doing and thinking. I then signed the last part of the DS-230. He was about to give me another document to sign, which said that within 90 days of being in the states, I needed to register for selective service (the army) if I'm between 18 and 25, then I said "But I'm now 26," and he took the documents back and did more intense computer typing and eventually put a red stroke through the two forms. (I don't like red strokes through things.)

More chit chat with his colleagues off the mic and I couldn't hear what they were saying. It felt like I was being left out of some necessary conversation that I really should have been hearing about. He asked me what countries I've been to,the longest I've been in the US, whether I'd ever been arrested or been to court. After all the stuff about the spelling of my mom's name, and the selective service stuff, he forgot to ask me for the updated tax documents, though they were right before his face. He said nothing, so I kept my mouth shut. Didn't want to open another can of worms.

Then he used a stamp cancelled my precious tourist visa (OMG!), asked me if I was registered with DHL and gave me a little green IV ticket, I suppose for getting the package from DHL when it's ready.

Then he announced: "do not make any travel plans. If you receive a package, it may be two weeks or significantly longer." #######? Is this something standard they tell everyone?

I hope it's possible I might get it back before the end of the week, which would mean I'd get to leave by this weekend. I already miss my passport.

So there. It's now out of my hands and it's now the waiting game again, the part I dislike. My Jamaican friends, how long did it take you to get your package? I've chosen to pick it up at Dhl instead of having it delivered. I want it directly in my hands and no one else's. God knows where it could possibly end up!

PS: I hope they don't call me to ask me to come back to give in the tax documents. It wasn't my fault after all.

  11. javisakid, can you believe the wait is finally coming to an end??

Ok,so try to keep calm, have a great interview,

    all the best.

Thanks. It's 5 am, I just woke up. My taxi comes at 6. I double and triple checked my docs. All I don't have is the no - impediment and I'm hoping they won't ask for it. I'm hearing the "phone check" is now $500 so I'll leave the phone at home and "beg a call" after the interview. Lol.

My heart is racing, but everything has been smooth up to here so (knock on wood) I hope it continues the same. It's out of my hands after that.

Thanks to every single one of you guys for your mental support. It really helps to know other people know and experienced what I'm feeling.

    Talk to you guys later.

  12. I've realised that there are still many folks who haven't heard of the VJ site, let alone our little F1 crew. I have a friend with 2008 PD but he isn't following up on anything with any forums. He doesn't even know what a visa bulletin is. Lol. I've told him about visa journey though. I hope he'll join and let's keep hope that more folks will learn about our crew and join us so that we can continue to strengthen our ability to share in each other's journey.

  13. @ javisa kid...Re phones,I left mine on the outside with one of the guys. They seem to have a pretty organized system where they have 2 tickets, one ticket is placed in a plastic bag containing your items and the other you keep in order to retrieve your stuff when the interview is done(the tickets have serial numbers which ensures no one is given the wrong bag,it also has the name and tele # of the person with whom you are leaving your items).

Anyway, having said that I took the oldest/least expensive phone I had just in case of any misfortune (hint, hint) but I had no trouble. Anyway,I gave the guy $300.00

Now about the Immunization Rec. mine has the same (history incomplete, eligible for waiver ....) dont think its anything to be worried about because the doctor advised the vaccines course could be completed overseas if you are leaving before the next dosage becomes due.I still have not gone to get the other shot (dont think its going to happen either since the time frame was 4-8wks after the 1st,oh well. Yea,anyway I dont think that Immigration will be asking to see my Immunization Rec.

Much thanks for your detailed answer, puppyluv. So I'll leave my phone with the folks outside. I'm gonna just take a cheap phone (probably worth less than the $300 they'll charge lol).

Also, thanks for the relief in learning that the incomplete vaccine history bit ought not to play a problem. Following in your footsteps on Monday morning, my friend.

  14. So, this question is for the folks who have done their medicals and whose interviews have been approved:

On the Vaccination Document Worksheet which you got back from the medical, is it normal for the physician to check the box which says "Vaccine History Incomplete, and the applicant may be eligible for blanket waivers because vaccinations not medically appropriate (as indicated above)"?

I have all my vaccinations, but the physician checked Hep A, Hep B, Meningococcal and Pneumococcal as being Not Age Appropriate, whereas Tdap and Influenza were checked as Insufficient Time Interval. Both columns (Not Age Appropriate and Insufficient Time Interval) were under the part that said Blanket Waivers To Be Requested etc. etc.

    SHOULD I BE WORRIED?!

  15. @javisakid All the best with your interview on Monday.

Sounds like a Hellshire Beach weekend:thumbs:

I wish you all the best on Monday, and have a great beach weekend!!!!!!

Thanks my friends. I won't lie by saying I'm not nervous. But I'm just gonna relax, and let whatever happens happen the way it should. I will live tweet my interview for you all. :-)

But -- Oh no..... No phones allowed! Uh oh. My Jamaican buddies, how did you guys resolve the NO phones issue? Did you leave it with one of the people outside the embassy who offer to "keep it at a cost"? If so, how much was it? I'll need to call my taxi driver to pick me up again afterwards and I don't know how to sort that out. Help?!

  16. One can only hope!

I must say, this forum has gone rather quiet of late. It seems 3/4 of our population had 06 PD's. If 06 was a bumper year for applications that could be good for upcoming visa allocations...especially as CIR seems to have died a quick death!

We're still around. I've been very busy lately. But I'm happy there's more movement happening. Yeah, it does seem like most of our crew were the 2006 crowd, and my money is on 2007 being in the next couple bulletins. I'm voting you as team leader!

I hope everyone is keeping in good spirits. My journey isn't over yet so I'll still share my updates with you. Tomorrow I pick up medical and my new police certificate. Then I'll have a weekend at the beach before my Monday morning interview.

I hope the ones who have their interviews will share their experiences with us. Good luck to us all!
