  1. And DoS gave me authorization to book today!! Apparently Packet 4 had been sent on the 9th, the same day they logged packet 3. We got different information from pretty much everyone we spoke to at DoS. Oh well, now the refreshing begins!!

  2. You can always consider getting a co-sponsor. Remember, I-134's are recommended but not necessarily required for K-1, though the London Embassy may require them, I'm not sure. Basically, what I'm trying to say is any and all evidence to show support can be used. Pay-stubs could be very helpful. I'm in a similar situation, as I'm a full time Law Student, and I'm partially supported by student loans. I also have a near-full time (30 hours a week) law clerk job that very nearly gets me the 125% level. My parents have agreed to submit a supporting I-134, which gives me a fall-back position at least.

  3. Here, here! *fingers crossed*

So my fiancée called back, and they told her that we're not allowed to schedule an interview yet. I'd imagine packet 4 is hanging out in the mail room, and I hope we'll be able to start trying to schedule tomorrow or Monday. Though if spots do open up, I might just go ahead and book, hehe. So, keep us updated ralyse! :)

  4. Yeah, call again. When my fiance first called on Tuesday they told him it was sent but I couldn't book until I received it but then when I called an hour later I was told it was fine to try and book it.

Yeah, hopefully that'll be the case with us too. Though it doesn't sound like I'll have any luck getting an interview thats not on Monday at the moment anyways! Hopefully some new spots open up soon!!

  5. Right on. I just had an interesting conversation with one of the visa specialists at DoS. She said that Montreal received packet 3 "recently," which i'm pretty sure was Monday, and shes not sure if they've sent packet 4 out yet. But they did make a note on the case file that packet 4 is ready to be sent out. Then she said she "strongly recommends" waiting until we actually receive packet 4 before making an interview. When I asked if I could start trying to make an appointment, she said I could go on the website and see how everything works, and maybe could make and appointment, but "strongly recommends" waiting until we actually receive packet 4. Weird!

So I'm thinking I might have my fiancee try giving them a ring in a few hours and see if she gets any different info.

  6. So I just got off the phone with DoS, and they told me that Montreal had logged packet 3 on Monday the 9th, but that packet 4 hadn't been sent out yet. I thought they logged packet 3 and sent packet 4 out simultaneously. Did I just talk to somebody that doesn't know what they're taking about, or what?

  8. It's my udnerstanding we're not to book the medical until P4 has been sent... so I'm waiting until the interview is booked and then scheduling a Toronto medical accordingly.

Would you perhaps know where I could find information on who my fiancee needs to schedule her medical with prior to the receipt of P4? Just gotta minimize the delays as much as possible :)

  9. I won't lie, we called today for that exact "What if..." reason. Can't hurt, I suppose :)

Are we able schedule medicals yet? I don't want to miss this window where they seem to be addressing back logs because I haven't told my fiancee to get her medical taken care of yet.

How are you handling the medical process?

  10. I am a law student in my final year of law school, and I would honestly recommend not hiring a lawyer and doing it yourself. There are so many intricacies associated with each difference consulate, which even professional immigration lawyers are not aware of. It is definitely a lot of work to go through the process by yourself, but it could be rather expensive to hire an attorney do the work for you. I'd imagine you'd be looking at a $2,500 retainer. Additionally, you will probably spend a lot of time providing an attorney with the information required to fill out the forms anyways. VisaJourney is an excellent resource with a very, very helpful and knowledgeable community, and has helped me immensely in my fiancee's visa application process.

Disclaimer: Nothing written above should be taken or relied upon as legal advice.

  11. Wait until about the middle of next week and call DOS to see if it has been logged and if packet 4 was sent. You can call daily until they say yes :-) I hope they are speedy for you.

That is definitely my plan, though I don't know if I can resist not calling tomorrow, haha. I know its pointless, but what if.... :P

HAHA I know! Ours was delivered on Tuesday and I'm already anxious! Hopefully they get us all processed very quickly! :)

You can probably reasonably start expecting them to log it tomorrow, but more realistically early next week! A lot of timelines I've seen seem to indicate about 5-7 days. So close!!!

  12. When you call DOS and they tell you packet 4 was sent and you are eligible to schedule you can do so. No need to wait for physical packet 4.

You pay at the time that you book the interview.

Excellent. My packet 3 was delivered to Montreal this morning, so I hope it won't be too long until I can book. Its just so tempted to book right now!! haha.

  13. This is so encouraging!!! Congratulations to everyone who booked an appointment!!!

It is my understanding that I should wait til they send out my packet 4 before I book an interview, even though the website will let me book an interview already. Is this correct?

And when am I required to pay the application fee?

Again, congrats to everyone! SO EXCITING!

  14. You can include the items requested on DS-156k, though for Montreal it is not required. I just mailed my Packet 3 this morning, and just included the checklist, seeing as the long form birth certificate is still in the mail.

Also, you do not have to wait to receive the Packet 3 instructions to mail the completed packet back. As soon as Montreal logs your petition and sends out the P3, you can fill out DS-160 and mail the other required docs. DoS will tell you when P3 has been mailed.

  15. So I am just finishing up the Packet 3 with my fiancée, but there are two things that concern me on the checklist. The I-184 - I thought we just had to do the I-134, its not really a problem, but I'd like to know which I need. And, the proving domicile in the US. I feel like thats not something I want to be proving for a fiancée visa, though she does have a US drivers license...

Do I just not check these boxes?

  16. It did ty! And I'm sure it will for you too.

So far so good!!! I just got off the phone with DoS - They received and logged the petition yesterday and put packet 3 in the mail this morning!!! Now my fiancee just needs to get home from work so we can send the forms out!! I hope the rest of our dealings with MTL go this smoothly!

  17. Gotcha - Yeah, definitely have to call DoS. Will do that first thing tomorrow as they're closed, though I can't imagine Montreal will have received the packet after 1 week. Just gonna haffta make it part of my daily routine!! I'm still holding out hope that it'll all work out. Otherwise, I hope I can reschedule my honeymoon!!

  18. So I've been following this forum for awhile, but as its getting down to the wire for my fiancee, I thought I'd get involved.

I am in a very similar situation to the OP, but about 10 days behind. I just called the NVC today, and they said my petition was sent to Montreal last week, on the 25th of April.

I was wondering if you could provide me with the phone number you called that finally told you they'd sent packet 3? I know they haven't probably received or processed my petition, but I'm getting pretty nervous about getting an interview in time and I want to start bugging them asap.

I was also wondering if I can register so that when they do send out packet 3, it will be sent by courier.

My time crunch issue: My fiancee and I are having our wedding ceremony in Canada on August 5th. We aren't going to get legally married at that point, and were planning on crossing the border back to the states on August 9th for our honeymoon in Hawaii. But reading these posts that Montreal hasn't been scheduling visas has got me seriously worried that we won't be able to schedule an interview in time. So any and all advice is most welcome!

    Thanks for the help!!
